The future of the workplace is taking the next big leap with a new hybrid solution that is gaining popularity among employees. This solution means that less space is needed in the physical workplace, which is a key benefit. Six main functions are still looked for in the working environment, including comfort, flexibility, immersion, independence, collaboration, and wellness.

Additionally, this space is being optimized to serve as a demo area allowing clients to provide feedback to the development team.

Students who receive assistance from their teachers and engage in handson learning develop a desire to learn and acquire knowledge on their own. Advocates can engage in deep learning activities that allow them to experiment and learn through mistakes rather than through lectures.

We start to notice a change in our mindset and mood related to a healthy lifestyle when nature and the built environment are combined. We start to notice a change in the world that doesn’t fear the effort when we combine indoor conveniences with outdoor pleasures

Site Plan (Mara Wesserman)

The Douglas School District (DSD) is set to receive an influx of students over the coming years due to the arrival of a new B-21 Stealth Bomber Squadron at the neighboring Ellsworth Air Force Base in Box Elder, SD. It is estimated that an additional 2000 students will enter the DSD system. To prepare for this growth, DSD conducted a master plan study in 2019 to determine the best approach. The study concluded that the district would need to construct a new high school, middle school, and three new elementary schools.

Ashleaf Elementary was created to provide a sense of community and inclusion for students, including those from military families and the growing population of Box Elder. The school features a unique setup with students of all grades in each “pod,” allowing for individualized, inquiry-based learning. To maximize the use of space, teachers are not assigned specific classrooms, but instead have access to planning rooms throughout the school. This enhances opportunities for mentorship and collaboration among students.
