AUTUMN/WINTER
2014
Sixty years ago, Jaguar launched a car that took the world by storm. The D-Type. Jaguar took second place in its debut before embarking on a sequence of three consecutive Le Mans wins that confirmed Jaguar’s place in the top echelon of racing. 2014: Jaguar launches another world-class competitor. This time, it’s a road car. The new XE is the most efficient Jaguar ever built, capable of up to 75 mpg. Yet it’s also responsive, rewarding, beautiful and luxurious too. Everything you expect of a new Jaguar – in a new class. A compact sports saloon like no other has been revealed – and it’s arriving in our showroom in Spring 2015. A car like the XE deserves a spectacular reveal celebration – and it got it. In the latest edition of Expression you can read how the XE painted the town red with a party that included a performance by multi-platinum artist Emeli Sandé. You can also read about the D-Type’s modern-day successor, the F-TYPE Project 7, as well as our increasingly popular Ride like a Pro cycling challenge. Lots to read, lots to celebrate. XE PAINTS THE TOWN RED. September 8th 2014. London comes to a standstill. A fantastic spectacle of music, light, drama and surprise reaches its climax with the launch of the new Jaguar XE to an enraptured audience. There’s never been a reveal like it. But there’s never been a sports saloon like the new XE. Combining beauty, power, poise, luxury and efficiency,
it’s a remarkable achievement by a remarkable team – and it’s British to the core. Later, on October 2nd at the Paris Motor Show, the new XE was officially unveiled to a global audience. But for sheer spectacle, surprise, exhilaration and celebration, London was the place to be that September Monday evening.
Landmarks including the London Eye, County Hall and the Shell Building were turned red, while a series of red flares were launched along the river to turn the skyline crimson during the spectacular launch of the Jaguar XE in London on September 8th. Earlier that week, the XE had left its state-of-the art manufacturing facility in Solihull by helicopter to begin the journey southwards. 1,000 employees formed a giant XE to bid it farewell – and the Red Arrows flew overhead in formation to mark the start of its extraordinary journey.
The Voice. Each performance brought to life significant moments in the history of Jaguar, from the launch of the SS100 in 1935 to the global success of the current Jaguar line-up, climaxing with the spectacular reveal of the Jaguar XE.
AIR, RIVER AND ROAD
Following the reveal of the Jaguar XE at Earl’s Court, multi-platinum singersongwriter Emeli Sandé gave a unique performance of her new song ‘Feels Like’ from a floating stage in the Thames with the London Eye and County Hall as her backdrop.
The helicopter – and its precious cargo – continued to London, flying along the Thames to Tower Bridge where the XE was placed on a high-speed landing craft to continue its journey to Chelsea Harbour. The final leg from Battersea Bridge saw the XE escorted by two 1960’s Mark II Jaguar Police Cars into the Earl’s Court Arena, home of 14 Jaguar debuts since 1935. Six manufacturing robots formed a Guard of Honour to reveal the car to the seated audience watching live and the thousands watching online around the world. STAR-STUDDED AUDIENCE The audience of over 3,000 guests at Earl’s Court included Stella McCartney, David Gandy, Damian Lewis, José Mourinho, Brian Johnson, Sam Riley, Gary Lineker, Ruben Cortada, Example and Sienna Guillory. The show was narrated by actor John Hannah with performances by Emeli Sandé, Kaiser Chiefs, Eliza Doolittle, The Royal Ballet, members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Max Milner from
FEELS LIKE XE
During the performance key London landmarks were lit in red, including a projection-mapping spectacle on County Hall that included the public’s social media insights that inspired the song. EXHILARATION IN WORDS A unique ‘word cloud’ sculpture of the new XE has been on display in the Design Museum ‘tank’ on its waterfront location by Tower Bridge. To create it, the Jaguar design team collaborated with a range of creative experts across the fields of computer aided design, graphic artwork, stage design and metal work to design a word cloud representation of the new XE. It’s created using 95 words in seven languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, English, Russian and Mandarin.

EXHILARATION AND CELEBRATION.
Now we can see what all the anticipation has been about. With the launch of the XE, Jaguar steps into the fiercely competitive sports saloon sector – and heads straight for the top spot. Here’s your guide to what makes the XE a world-beater. STRIKING Clearly a Jaguar – yet a Jaguar like no other. The award-winning Jaguar design team led by Ian Callum has created a lean, muscular and compact sports saloon. Jaguar’s famous ‘1,000-yard stare’ angled headlamps, LED running lights and ovoid grille will be instantly recognisable in rear-view mirrors.
LIGHT & AGILE
SURE-FOOTED
XE’s body is constructed in high-strength aluminium alloy for unrivalled low weight. Over 75% of the XE is made of this light yet strong material. Saving weight saves fuel and enhances agility. The doublewishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension uses sports car technology to combine sharp response and handling with a supple, refined ride.
Even with the best traction control, some rear-wheel drive cars can struggle to pull away on slippery surfaces. Jaguar has created All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), a completely new feature in its class. It senses even tiny amounts of slip and automatically gains traction without the driver using the pedals.
EFFICIENT The most fuel-efficient model in the XE range can achieve up to 75 mpg and produces CO2 emissions from as little as 99 g/km. So there’s no road tax to pay and company car drivers will be able to count their BIK savings. There’s a range of fuel-efficient Ingenium petrol and diesel engines to choose from and Jaguar’s engineers have prioritised torque for effortless overtaking urge.
ADVANCED The XE’s in-car tech centres around ‘InControl’, an infotainment system and 8-inch touchscreen that links seamlessly with your smartphone. You can even use it remotely to start the engine or operate the climate control. Another InControl option is a Wi-Fi Hotspot, allowing passengers to connect to their music, the web or social media as you drive.
SAFE XE technology also helps you to stay safe. Fitted as standard, a forward facing stereo camera provides autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning. AFFORDABLE The entry level price for the new Jaguar XE is just £26,995. Running costs are low too, with a choice of inclusive service plans lasting for 5 years/50,000 miles or 5 years/75,000 miles from just £475*. And don’t forget Jaguar branded insurance for competitively-priced cover. ant to know more? Stay in touch via W jaguar.co.uk/xe

TEAM SKY CYCLE TO FRANCE.
On June 1st Team Sky’s Tour de France 2013 winner Chris Froome became the first person to cycle from the United Kingdom to France under the sea. Jaguar and Team Sky began discussions over six months earlier with Eurotunnel, which celebrates its twentieth year in 2014, to make the cycling challenge possible. The service tunnel is one of the highest security sites in the UK and France. Froome rode through the tunnel at a training-pace, completing the world first ride in approximately 55 minutes and reaching speeds of up to 65 kilometres per hour.
Throughout the summer, Jaguar Dealerships up and down the UK have been hosting ride-out events. Ride like a Pro gives keen amateurs the chance to experience the thrill of riding in a peloton with the support of an XF Sportbrake – just like the professionals. For 2014 the competition was bigger and better than ever, with 33 events and 2,200 participants throughout the UK. Each ride covered a non-competitive 30 to 50 mile course, supported by a an XF Sportbrake in full Team Sky livery.
From the riders who took part in the Dealership ride-outs, a number are randomly selected to take part in the Grand Final. At stake is the chance to ride with Team Sky at their 2015 winter training camp. You can read about the lucky winners in the next issue of Expression.

ATHLETES FROM 13 NATIONS GATHERED IN LONDON IN SEPTEMBER FOR A FIVE-DAY SPORTING SPECTACLE,
THE INVICTUS GAMES. BUT FOR EVERY ONE OF THE COMPETITORS, THE BIGGEST VICTORY OF THEIR LIVES WAS SIMPLY TO ARRIVE AT THE START LINE.
For the Invictus Games – the name means ‘unconquered’ in Latin – a unique competition for ‘wounded warriors’, supported by Jaguar Land Rover and championed by Prince Harry. The Games ran from 10th-14th September at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and included athletics, wheelchair rugby, cycling, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball. WARM WELCOME On Monday 8th September the 130-strong British Armed Forces team gave their
“We have been inspired by the passion with which Prince Harry has championed this visionary idea. We’re also exploring with the Royal Foundation and the Ministry of Defence ways of enhancing their employment prospects when moving into civilian life, to create a lasting legacy from the Games.” Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.
opponents a Guard of Honour as teams from Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand and the USA arrived in the capital. Extending the welcome alongside Prince Harry was British Armed Forces Team Captain Dave Henson, a former Royal Engineers Captain, who was clearing a compound in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2011 when he stood on an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and lost both legs at the knee. Dave later competed
in the 100m, 200m and sitting volleyball as a key member of the British team. FRIENDS AND RIVALS The Games began on Wednesday 10th September with an opening ceremony that included a fly-past by the Red Arrows, displays by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and music by military marching bands. After five days of intense competition, the closing show, on Sunday 14th September, featured the Foo Fighters plus sets from Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, Ryan Adams,
The Vamps, Rizzle Kicks, James Blunt, Diversity and the Military Wives Choir. With so many battle-hardened competitors, the competition was fierce – but the smiles and the banter were never far away. The Invictus Games celebrated the friendship and camaraderie that exists between warriors of all nationalities who have fought back from despair and injury to compete once again. D-TYPE ROLL OF HONOUR
The Jaguar D-Type celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2014. It’s the most successful of all racing Jaguars, accounting for three of the seven Le Mans victories won by the marque. Its dominance of endurance racing helped create Jaguar’s performance pedigree – as well as inspiring today’s Project 7 concept, revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
1955 With its advanced aerodynamics, semi-monocoque construction, disc brakes and advanced six-cylinder engine the D-Type was a major step forward from the Le Mans winning C-Type. After coming second in 1954, Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb won in 1955, covering 4,136,380 kilometres at an average speed of 172.308 km/h.
F-TYPE PROJECT 7: A NEW ICON. Inspired by Jaguar’s seven Le Mans victories, the F-TYPE Project 7 shows the full capabilities of the Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations division. The uprated 5.0 V8 Supercharged engine produces 575PS with a peak torque of 680Nm for a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds. It features an aerodynamic rear haunch inspired by the D-Type and a race-inspired front bumper with splitter. Racing seats, extensive use of carbon fibre and carbon ceramic brakes are among other specification highlights. The original concept Project 7 was shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2013. In 2014 the production version was announced, limited to just 250 examples worldwide. All UK cars are now sold, with deliveries beginning in Spring 2015. Visit jaguar.co.uk for more information.

Jaguar arrived in strength with 3.4 litre D-Types and went on to win – but it was a private team, Ecurie Ecosse, that took the victory with a D-Type driven by Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson.
The works Jaguar team had withdrawn at the end of 1956 and rivals Ferrari and Maserati fielded strong teams. Yet Ecurie Ecosse gave the D-Type its third and final Le Mans victory with an ex-works car driven by Ivor Bueb and Ron Flockhart.
Project 7 is unveiled exactly 60 years after the debut of the D-Type. A showcase for Jaguar’s cutting-edge engineering technologies, its name celebrates the seven Le Mans victories won by the marque.
