Athletic Venues Ladd-Peebles Stadium Ladd Peebles Stadium is the home field for South Alabama Football, Senior Bowl, and the GoDaddy Bowl. It opened in 1948 and had a seating capacity of 33,471. On September 13, 2014 South Alabama hosted Mississippi State in front of a capacity crowd of 38,129, the Jaguars first sell out! It was originally named for Ernest F. Ladd, a local banking magnate who died in 1941. In 1997, it was renamed to honor E.B. Peebles, a civic leader who was instrumental in the revitalization of the Senior Bowl. In addition to football, the stadium is also used for concerts (maximum capacity 50,000), boxing matches, high school graduations, trade shows, and festivals.
Stanky Field Eddie Stanky Field is home to the South Alabama Jaguars baseball team and it is among one of the top facilities in the nation. The ballpark has a capacity of 4,500 people. The second floor Stadium Club is a beautiful gathering place for South Alabama supporters. It features air conditioned comfort, along with leather couches and chairs, adding to the South Alabama baseball’s first-class experience. In 2015, the Jaguars ranked 43rd among Division I baseball programs in attendance, averaging 1,505 per home game.
Mitchell Center Mitchell Center is a 10,041-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of the University of South Alabama. It was completed in 1998 and is the home court for University of South Alabama Jaguars basketball teams. The Center is named for the Mitchell family, local real estate developers who have given to various University causes, including $1 million for construction of the Center. The venue can seat 3,500 for theatrical presentations, 7,354 for front-of-arena concerts, 8,777 for the circus and auto racing, and full-arena concerts. The Mitchell Center has an average of 300,000 people coming to events each year.
