01 “The Glitch Mid-Rise
- Project for a Mid-Rise office building with a Glitch in Detroit Original Work: Spring Semester 2015 (January 2015- May 2015) Editing Work: August 2015 Studio by Kristy Balliet Critic: Kristy Balliet. David Eskenazi
A typical Mid-Rise office building, a dominant type of building typology in downtown, Detroit, has been developed with a glitch to host an unique type of program, an incubator, and combine the office and the incubator together.
The design task was to develop a new type of building in regards to the introduction of a glitch to a
normative building element to negotiate between the two major programs. The glitches that came to an interest were the oversizing of quoins, the breaking up of the Mid-Rise to create two mini Mid-Rises, and the continuous stairs that connects all floors of the building. These glitches created opportunities to develop spaces that are unique to this building. By introducing oversized quoins to the building, it gave hierarchy to the corners, where the entrance and the collective spaces are located. The quoins also happen vertically, which also hosts public spaces such as the gym and the auditorium.
By breaking up the building into two mini mid-rises, the two volumes could host dramatically different
environments. The bottom incubator space prioritizes a horizontally views and is highly artificially lit. The top office space prioritizes verticals views and is more naturally lit with the skylight. The two volumes are connected, visually and programmatically, by the open event space in the middle. Lastly, the grand stair in the center of building connects all the floors of the building. In plan, they act as the divider between the public spaces of the quoins and the private spaces. In section, they act as the connector to reinforce the idea of compartmentalization of the mini mid-rises.

event spaces. The site is located in the Over the Rhines area in Cincinatti. Over the Rhines area is culturally influenced by German immigrants and breweries are one of the most common businesses in this area. They take a big role in hosting cultural activites aroudn the area and they are one of the most essential cultural aspect of the Over the Rhines area. The whole area is recently getting renovated and our studio took a part in it by imagining a project that would reform t the overall atmosphere of the Over the Rhines area. I approached this project by examining the SITE PLAN

03 The Head and The Tail
- Project for a new recreational building on OSU Campus
The objective in this project was to design a new recreational building for the OSU Campus. The site is located on the Jessie Owens North Center, which is an existing recreational building. The site has to negotiate with the campus and Lane Ave, which marks the edge of the main campus area. The new building is required to host mul-

tiple physical activies, and provide office spaces, classrooms, and outdoor spaces. I approached this building by taking on the typology of the Head and the Tail. The building would wrap around a central garden area and all the office spaces would be located in the Tail, and the recreational spaces in the Head.

04 New Wexner Art Gallery
- Project for an Art Gallery located in Downton, Columbus Original Work: Autumn Semester 2014 (October 2014- November 2014) Editing Work: October 2015 Studio by Jacquline Gargus Critic: Jacquline Gargus, Troy Malmstrom, Beth Blostein
The objective in this project was to design a New Wexner Art Gallery in Downtown, Columbus next to the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). The site is located next to Broad St. which sets up the Decumanus of the city of Columbus along with High Street, which is the Cardo. The building was required to house multiple programs such as galleries, classrooms, offices, workshops, and etc. I approached the buidling by taking on a classical typology of a courtyard building and opening it up to the Broad Street to create the entry way into the buidling. The building also houses apartments and studios for the local artists so their relationship with the galleries and workshops are one of the main problems I considered when designing this project. The west side of the building is dedicated to the offices, AERIAL VIEW
east side to visitors, and the top two floors are mainly dedicated to the artists and their studios.
