01 MUSEUM OF THE SENSES LOCATION Boston, Massachusetts CONCEPT Interaction between the voids PROJECT The entry to the building is hidden between three massive walls that engage the user. There is a sense of enclosure as the walls almost touch as you’re guided through. The walls began to push away, creating an open space with no direction. There are moments where the ceilings are elevated, making a space feel open and vast. There is light and sound coming from the core, which extends to the sky, creating a relationship between the layers. The core acts as a container of the senses, which disperse through the gaps between the walls. The staggered walls are conserving each layer, framing specific views but not fully exposing the experience. This creates a sense of curiosity and the urge to discover, as the circulation encloses and exposes a new layer. STUDIO Fall 2015 Prof. Weinert

02 HOLOCAUST MUSEUM LOCATION Los Angelos, California CONCEPT Precedent study PROJECT This museum was designed by Hagy Belzberg and was completed in 2010. The green roof blends into the park, allowing visitors to discover the building as they pass through the park. The park is used by the community, which offers a range of potential visitors into the museum. There is one pathway through the building that descends as the building progresses to the gallery spaces. The galleries are arranged in a timeline, the lowest and darkest space being the death camps. In this room, the roof slopes down, giving you a sense of isolation and discomfort. The architecture creates a beautiful sight, but also tells a deep and dark story of our past. The use of concrete creates a sense of enclosure and hollowness, while the contrast of the black gallery walls attract. This building is sustainable and structurally sound, creating a perfect match for the gallery of the Holocaust. STUDIO Fall 2015 Prof. Weinert

LIGHT CHAMBER LOCATION Boston, Massachusetts CONCEPT Structure in nature PROJECT The goal was to create a 2000 sq. ft structure that uses the sun to manipulate a space. The space mimics the shadow of tree’s canopy. Canopies have random spaces where the sun shines through, creating different shadows throughout the day. The space I choose for a precedent is in -Boston at the riverway. This space was interesting because of the combination of shadow to light and how there was clear division, yet it is not a perfect line. To recreate this, the space has rectangular walls spaced evenly with patterns resembling a canopy carved into it. This creates a shadow that extends across the floor that changes throughout the day. 04 APARTMENT BUILDING LOCATION Boston, Massachusetts/ruggles station CONCEPT Connection with the urban context PROJECT This project was to create a 12-unit apartment building with parking. There are several components within the site including an elementary school, the southwest corridor, and apartments. The community ties all of these pieces together, creating unity. The building exterior is round and the center is split in half, opening up towards the elementary school. There are rectangular spaces protruding through the rounded exterior. The main curved structure represents the community, while the protruding rectangles represents different buildings within the community. The building height starts low, relating to the community adjacent to it. The roof slopes upwards as it progresses, referencing back to the city of Boston. STUDIO Summer 2015 Prof. Peters

05 SCHWITTER PROJECT LOCATION Basel, Switzerland CONCEPT Precedent study PROJECT The Schwitter building was designed by Herzog & De Meuron, and completed in 1985. The building sits on a corner exposing its curved exterior to Switzerland. The building creates a plaza by connecting adjacent buildings through the round shape. As a group of four, we assembled a scaled 1/4=1’ section model from existing plans and sections. The model is constructed mostly out of wood using a laser cutter. The model was chosen to be displayed in the Wentworth Architecture Department STUDIO Summer 2015 Prof. Peters

SMALL HOUSE LOCATION Secluded space on the water CONCEPT Interactive house PROJECT The goal of the project was to design a micro space that compresses everyday needs into a compact home. The space had to be suitable for one to two people. This required determining essential needs due to the limited space. The design has a flow starting from the exterior and continuing into the interior. The two masses are recycled shipping containers, keeping the cost low. The front facing facade is on the south side, and has corresponding windows on both containers, allowing the natural light in. The layering of the containers creates balcony spaces connected by stairs. The stairs create a flow around the exterior of the house. The containers are arranged so that the top container overhangs creating a hierarchy of spaces and shading for the first floor. STUDIO Summer 2015 Prof. Peters

07 COMMUNITY CENTER LOCATION Boston, Massachusetts/ jamaica plain CONCEPT Interaction through architecture PROJECT The goal of this project was to create a community space for Jamaica Plain. The site is submerged on a hill located within the southwest corridor. There is a variety of users of the park, however our site was not being used. This was a major drive when designing the building. There are two pathways that span through the site from the entrance to the park. The pathways carve through the buildings, forming their shapes as they intersect. The elevated grass roofs create a gathering space below. This is a space where the users of the site can relax and hide from the sun during the summer. STUDIO Fall 2014 Prof. Berkowitz

08 COLLABORATIVE SPACE LOCATION Boston, Massachusetts CONCEPT City within a city PROJECT This design project was for New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. The goal was to replace the existing library connected to the dormitory with a building that was more revealing to the public. The design allows for collaboration of students and has a space in which performances can be held. The structure creates a city within a city, more specifically, a space that relates to the height of the city in comparison to suburban areas. This allows the city to connect to the building and the building to connect back to the city. The existing building feels like a fortress, it is hardly noticeable. This was a driving force for a exposed facade that showcases the amazing things happening inside. STUDIO Spring 2014 Prof. Ellis

09 RUMPF DESIGN LOCATION Salem, Massachusetts CONCEPT Internship PROJECT Rumpf design/build is a small firm with an engineer and an architect. As an intern, I assisted the architect with construction documents for multiple projects. Their primary application is VisualCAD, which is similar to AutoCAD. I mostly worked on residential buildings, including a set of 13 similar houses for a developer. Under supervision, I completed floor plans, sections, elevations, and detail notes. I had the chance to measure existing buildings and create accurate drawings. I also participated on a concrete pour for a utility building in Lawrence, MA. This experience provided me with real world skills and the importance of meeting deadlines. DURATION Summer 2014 Spring 2015 December 2015

EDMUNDS COVE The house is part of a 13 home development located in Danvers, MA. Rumpf Design was hired to design the original layout. It was then duplicated with minor adjustments according to the owner/buyers needs. I was responsible for completing multiple construction documents set from the plans to the structural details.

ERC COMMERCIAL BUILDING The building is located in Lynn, MA. The roof collapsed on a section of this building due to the snow. We were hired to document the building and design a replacement roof with new structure. My task was to measure the building with a co-worker and accurately draw plans and sections.

BARKSDALE RESIDENCE This house is located in Stoughton, MA. My task was to measure the existing house and develop a design scheme. The owner wanted to extend the garage and a roof overhang that protected the walkway. The columns and railings were taken out and replaced. The owner was satisfied with the design and I completed the construction documents.
