Gehry Residence

The Gehry Residence is the the esteemed house of the architecture anarchist Frank Gehry himself. This house was orginally only suppose to be just an extension to an existing colonial style house, (much like what most balding people put on their heads in the west side of our country). Frank Gehry used many unconventional materials on this house, such as chain-link fences and corrugated steel to mold and shape what looks like to be a Russian Junkyard. But in all seriousness, this is a cool freaking house and it’s no wonder that Frank Gehry got famous out of it. The Gehry Residence is located in Santa Monica, California. Frank Gehry bought this house on 1977. It was mutilated beyond belief a year later by said Frank Gehry. I was sent here by his neighbors to complain about this monstrosity.

Gehry Residence

From the looking of things, Franky Gehry probably hired a 4 year old to do his diagrams.

10

Thankfully for drawing programs like revit and autocad. but it still looks like a kid did it.

Finally, it looks like Frank Gehry stopped paying children to do his work and did it himself.

Now its time to share some not so confidential information about Mr. Frank Gehry. From my extensive 2 minutes of research about Mr. Frank Gehry, I have determined that Gehry is a part of the illuminati. Now hear me out, Normally people just call out others for being in the illuminati just because there is a triangle in it. But in this particular case, There are 3 triangles. This information is crucial because triangles have 3 sides. with 3 triangles, it signifys a larger triangle, symbolizing the 3 pillars of the illuminati. 13

14

Nonsense aside, The Gehry residence is significant because it jump started Frank Gehry’s career in the art and archiecture world. Because of this piece of sub-par archiecture, Frank Gehry explored more into deconstuctism and became the architect that he is today.

Norton House

18

The Norton House was designed in 1984 for a artist and writer couple. Judging by it’s design I say it would be for the Magic Tree House author and the illustrator of the book. Unfortunately, the Magic Tree House series was written by Mary Pope Osborne. Not by the owners of this house, Lynn Norton and William Norton. The Norton house is constructed out of everyday materials, much like his own residence filled with litter. But on a serious note, This kind of housing is low cost and comfy! One of the more iconic details of this house is the view from Jack and Annie’s tree house. From the view, you can see the navy blue fish toilet we call: Ocean.

Because I’m neither a stalker nor a part of the inner circles of the Illuminati, I won’t have access to photos of the interior or the drawn plans. (This house is pretty obscure compared to his big money makers.) The Norton House is a three floored house with 3 bedrooms, 2 studios and 1 garage. It has a kitchen and living space on the second floor and a mulitple staircases.

”It as a tongue-in-cheeck tribute to the house’s beach-front setting and to William Norton’s past work as a lifeguard.” - Frank Gehry Maybe with rising sea levels, The Nortons can go back to being lifeguards and then actually buy a house that dosen’t resemble a lifeguard stand.

I really have no complaints about the design of this library. It is magnificent! It is also one of the only buildings designed by Frank Gehry that actually looks like a building. It should be noted that Yelp scores this libary a 2.5 out of 5 (yikes) with only 37 reviews (double yikes) and it is currently at this the time I’m typing this, closed, because COVID 19. The Frances Howard Goldwyn library like every library has books. Yes it has books. What an achievement. the library was built and designed after the original library (Samuel Goldwyn library) was burnt down. the building was named after Goldwyn’s wife and movie star, Frances Howard. and was open to the public on 1906. This library, like no other has scripts & merch from famous movies and hosts cool events for the public. but don’t let that distract you from the 2.5 out of 5 rating from Yelp.

It’s a metal fish sculpture that looks more like a Chinese finger trap... Just kidding, the Olympic Fish or Golden Fish was built on 1992 in Barcelona Spain. During the um... Olympics. This was the first project that experimented with the computer to help Mr. Frank Gehry built and design. (Obviously) This was also one of Gehry’s first projects outside of being a Architect. Inspired by the fish: Pez Dorado (you lucky gold fish!). 31

Dancing House was built by our hero Mr. Frank Gehry and Architect Vlado Milunic. It was designed in 1992 and was built in 1996 in the center of Prague, Czech Republic. In all honestly I rave the crazy vibe of this building. But as much as I love this building, looking at deformed weird buildings all day can get to someone. In so, I give my unhelpful feedback. This house looks like the aftermath of a rejected deformed Circus Clown and the worlds most annoying Carnival Fun House. (rejected because too annoying to look at) If it wasn’t already triggering enough to look at, Dancing House’s Windows aren’t lined up horizontally and has 2 different structures that hold it up. (Concrete in a conical shape supported by columns, and steel frames supported by retractable glass.) If you have 2 different towers made differently, you should have just called it Dancing Wasted House(S) Wasted materials, Space, and in a sense were you’re drunk.

JUST BECAUSE THERES “GEHRY” IN THE NAME DOSE NOT MEAN IT’S IMPORTANT Its a office building, and it looks like it’s slightly twisted. Built in 2001 in Hanover, Germany. Probably the only legit quote I’m going to actually site: “The immediate erection of the building was preceded by a long and complex process of its modeling. Architects created a model for the construction at a scale of 1: 100” - Orangesmile.com

The Marqués de Riscal Hotel is a luxurious hotel located in Elciego, Spain designed by Mr. Frank Gehry. Before becoming a hotel, It was one of the oldest wineries in La Rioja, Spain. This building looks like an aborted offspring of a spiderweb, pieces of shredded snake skin, and a brick. But it’s still better than the Gehry Tower so I’ll just make this the halfway point. This Hotel was built in 2007. It’s structure is a combination of steel and a system of concrete postensado. The building is also supported by 3 super columns and many canopies lined with stainless steel, titanium and other metals with reflecting properties. Talk about the worlds most unstable tee pee. BTW, Don’t get mad at me for not choosing New York by Gehry. OVERRATED like the show, The Office,

Your probably thinking you’ve seen this building before, Congrats! You have at least the memory retention of a Bonobo! This building is featured on the cover of this very Monograph, Constructing Deconstructivism, an Analysis of Frank Gehry’s Architecture and Design. Written by Jonathan Wang.

Lou Ruvo Center for Brain health is a hospital for cognitive disorders. When I look like at a building where I want to be treated at for mental issues, I’d probably try to avoid a building that looks like the manifestation of said mental issues. Lou Ruvo Center was opened on May 21, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This building is divided into 4 floors with 13 rooms for Medical consultations, 27 single rooms for patients, research areas and an auditorium. In a way, Gehry tried to create the physical manifestation of a medical setting, but I think he created the the physical Manifestation of an asylum. The structure of the building consists of Stainless steel tilings and a coating of black rubber for waterproofing.

Maggie’s Hong Kong

Maggie’s Hong Kong is honestly the coolest looking Hospital I ever seen, this hospital was built to care for cancer

64

The hospital officially opened on March 7th, 2013. This hospital is much more soothing than that Mental asylum

I feel like the Tranquil outdoor environment really helps the entire healing aspect 10/10

Pierre Boulez Concert Hall

This Concert Hall was built in Berlin, Germany, It opened in March 2017

68

This concert hall was dedicated to a famous composer, Pierre Boulez. It has a weightless feel to it by having a Hovering second floor for seats and lighting. Koots to the design team for the interior... IDK about the exterior though.

The New Frank Gehry Residence was built on 2017 in Santa Monica, California. This project is one of his latest works of Architecture and I really feel like he pushed himself to his limits. I mean

He isn’t living in a Russian junkyard anymore! Jk

73

Frank Gehry Residence

74

In a interview, Frank Gehry himself said that living in his old residence felt trapping to him. and I agree, Change is needed for the world to progress. Frank Gehry is regarded as one of the world’s Best architects because he is so innovative when it comes to his designs and architecture. In honory of such a great architect. ”there will always be those who cling on to tradition and those who venture outand explore new possibilties, new oppurtunites. Don’t be afraid to let your crazy mind loose.” - Jonathan Wang
