Usain St Leo Bolt is the first person to hold both the 100 meters and 200 meters world records since fully automatic time became mandatory. Usain also holds the world record as a part of the 4 Ă— 100 meters relay. Bolt is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events. Because of his dominance and achievements in sprint competition, he is widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of all time. He gained worldwide popularity for his double sprint victory at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in world record times. Bolt is the only sprinter to win Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012 and 2016), a feat referred to as the "triple double."

Problems Facing Caribbean Nations

Excerpted from the book: Jamaican Entrepreneurship by Dr. Glen Laman

The risk of increasing marginalization from the global economy in the context of trade liberalization is one of the greatest challenges Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face. Since 1974, the specific trade-related problems of “island developing countries” have been recognized by the United Nations system, and have received considerable attention from the international community as a result of UN advocacy.

A

ccording to Lino Briguglio, director of the Islands and Small States Institute at the University of Malta, writing in the World Development Journal, the “special disadvantages of SIDS economies are associated with their small size, insularity, remoteness and propensity to natural disasters. These factors render the economies of these states very vulnerable to forces outside their control – a condition which sometimes threatens their very economic viability. The GDP or GNP per capita of these states often conceals this reality.”
