Education is the main pillar under our corporate social responsibility portfolio, accounting for nearly 50% of the overall budget annually. All students must perform at a GPA of 3.0 and indicate a demonstrable financial need to receive semester/ annual disbursements. The companies also firmly believe that proper nutrition contributes to students’ academic performance, particularly at the early childhood level. Ten schools have been adopted under our school feeding programme, which supports close to 900 students monthly. The companies have received expressions of gratitude regarding this project from both parents and teachers, with teachers reporting better attendance and punctuality. The companies also promote electrical and mechanical engineering skills training by providing practical experience through their apprenticeship programme. Additionally, as

Powering a Brighter Future

Health: Increasing Access to Healthcare Through Free Medical Services and Improved Infrastructure Each year, the companies contribute to the health sector through various initiatives, such as providing scholarships for medical science students, hosting annual health and dental fairs, purchasing medical equipment, and improving infrastructure at prominent and high traffic hospitals. Additionally, the companies execute annual corporate blood drives in support of the National Blood Transfusion Services’ efforts to increase the nation’s blood supply which is often low. Health is critical to us; therefore, our goal is to establish new partnerships and strengthen existing ones to provide more opportunities for us to give back in this area.

Sports: Enriching our sporting culture through the development of leagues and local talent It is said that sports and music are two things that can bring people together. Therefore, over the years, JEP and WKPP have been sponsoring local sporting events with the hope of achieving unity among our communities and key stakeholders. 2022 marked 22 years of dedicated partnership with the St. Catherine Cricket Association. The Competition dubbed “Jamaica Energy Partners Cricket League” has contributed to our nation’s players’ growth and development, who have represented us locally, regionally, and internationally. Additionally, WKPP has donated funds

supporting the Tivoli High School Manning Cup Team for its annual participation in the football tournament. By engaging the youth in this manner, WKPP is essentially reducing the number of idle hours and their presence on the streets, which local gangs and organized criminal elements use as a recruitment haven to carry out illicit activities. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, there was no approved community sporting event for 2021.

Environment: Reducing the island’s carbon footprint through environmental stewardship In addition to operating within the guidelines of the National Environmental and Planning Agency (NEPA), the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the JEP Group takes pride in providing a safe environment for our staff and by extension, our communities. Our CSR portfolio highlights various partnerships with NGOs and boasts the many environmental initiatives we undertake as environmental stewards. These activities include our involvement in beach clean-up or International Coastal Clean-up Day, tree planting, the maintenance of fish sanctuaries and the introduction and installation of greenhouse technology. We also control mosquito larvae by increasing the fish population in targeted gullies to reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases.

Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Report 2021

The health of our communities is of critical importance for us at JEP Group. A healthy community means healthy employees and, importantly, healthy children in schools. Our vision is to reduce the number of absenteeism at work and schools for health reasons. The ongoing pandemic has upended life as we know it, and as such, we continue to support the health sector through the provision of equipment and sanitary supplies. This year, in particular, JEP sponsored a “Garden Project” at the Spanish Town Hospital to not only aid with the aesthetics but gives patients and health care workers a sense of calm during these challenging times. The JEP Group has become a household name within the health sector due to our unwavering support over the years.

Here’s a glance of what 2021 looked like:

support to local hospitals began as early as May, where JEP executed its annual Labour Day Project at the Spanish Town Hospital. Volunteers, including scholarship recipients, collaborated with us to upgrade the A/E area and X-Ray Department walls with a fresh coat of paint. JEP supplied the paint and painting tools. In addition to JEP Group staff, other volunteers included medical doctors, physicians who are past scholarship recipients, and the Hospital’s SMO, Dr Wright James. The Group further beautified the space by sponsoring a Garden Project to relieve mental anguish often experienced by patients and caregivers present. Our second hospital donation was made to the National Chest Hospital, where CEO, Ms Jacqueline Ellis, along with Senior Medical Officer, Dr Terry Baker, received medical equipment to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases/illnesses of patients enrolled at the institution.

Dental Fairs Oral health is also of critical importance to us; therefore, the companies deemed it necessary to support annual dental fairs within our social impact areas. This year, a total of four hundred and fifteen (415) patrons received dental cleaning and extractions, with SROI of JEP (63%), WKPP (23%) and JPPC (60%).

COVID-19 Vaccination Drives

As part of our efforts to support an internal full vaccination goal of 90%, the CSR Team extended the opportunity to be vaccinated at the company’s vaccination drives in October and November. This mandate also applies to our communities as the company engages its neighbours as preference for all job openings.

Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Report 2021

At the JEP Group, we strive to be as inclusive as possible. We engage all our neighbours, stakeholders, and organizations to enable them to become independent, progressive, and driven through various programmes. Stakeholder meetings are convened to assess, determine the extent of their needs, and ensure that an open communication channel exists for reporting and monitoring of projects within the SIA. Importantly, for the preceding year, we conducted five virtual Community Meetings were - two for the Western Kingston Division, one with the Old Harbour Bay CDA and two for Eastern Kingston. We believe in open and consistent dialogue with our neighbours.

Cancer Awareness Cancer is an all too familiar illness that has touched us in one way or another, directly and indirectly. At JEP, we understand the turmoil and devastation that comes with this disease and, therefore, decided to support the fight through our early detection campaigns and the annual sponsorship of the Jamaica Cancer Society NGO, which provides a range of cancer diagnostic and treatment services, at discounted costs. Internally, JEP kick-started our awareness campaigns with Prostate Cancer awareness month, celebrated in September annually. Subsequently, sixty men from our surrounding communities benefitted from screening

Christmas Treats Denham Town Golden Age Home and The Golden Age Home in East Kingston, were treated this Christmas with a warm meal, sanitization agents, and personal hygiene supplies. In addition, the children at the Maxfield Park Children’s Home enjoyed a day of fun, courtesy of the JEP Group. For their Christmas Treat, the children were provided with several rides, meals and sweet treats as a way to relieve them of the challenges associated with their daily lives. Among those who are also disregarded are those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Annually, the JEP Group donates to the Missionaries of the Poor NGO, specifically towards its AIDS Hospice, to procure personal hygiene products, providing comfort to the residents. To facilitate learning among the blind, The Jamaica Society for the Blind received a donation of lab equipment to promote learning through specialized software. In addition to educating its students, the Society promotes skills training as a means of earning an income.

Best Care Foundation The NGO acts as a haven for children with disabilities and hosts several fundraiser events to provide a liveable home for the children. The JEP Group supports this annually.

As Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) users, we understand that there needs to be a conscious effort to minimize pollutants and operate responsibly. As a result, we partner with local environmental advocates to make Jamaica as sustainable as possible. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, planned activities with our partners were cancelled for 2021.

National Tree Planting Day The JEP Group planted two thousand one hundred (2,100) indigenous seedlings at the Blue Mountain 2 Forest Reserve as part of the National Forestry Department’s Adopt a Hillside Project, which we conducted mainly to reduce our carbon footprint. In addition to our existing plant reforestation project at the Holywell Recreational Park, we now have over six thousand (6,000) healthy plants within the Blue and John Crow Mountain Range.

The Jamaica Conservation Development Trust

Montego Bay Marine Park Through local sponsorship, the Marine Park has managed to initiate a new attraction, with the hope of enticing more visitors and generating awareness about marine life. The JEP Group sponsored the Park with a one-off donation for the year to offset overhead expenses.

Ocean Trash Haul and Sustainable Fishing Practices In a two-part series, engaging fisherfolk in the Old Harbour Bay and Rockfort fishing communities in sustainable fishing practices, the group hosted two training sessions, one in each community and the inaugural staging of our Ocean Trash Haul. In October, ten vessels set sail and hauled trash from the Rolling Bay Fish Sanctuary, hauling in a massive amount of 1,355lbs of garbage. Furthermore, our main partner, Recycling Partners of Jamaica, reported that the haul recovered 1,070lbs of plastic, a total of 23,540 bottles individually.

Our vision is to provide unencumbered access to education in our communities; The JEP Group uses its platform to support our communities’ youth by offering scholarships and insight into the energy production business through our programmes. The Companies also fund infrastructural projects at various institutions to enhance the children’s learning experience.

Scholarships To honour our newly selected scholarship recipients, the JEP Group hosted a “Walk-Thru Scholarship Ceremony” where each student, despite the COVID-19 restrictions, had the opportunity to receive a certificate, their cheque, and got to know members of the CSR Team who presented the items.
