Yarmouth Cavalry 1805 a circular engraved medal with a single stepped edge, 41 mm, silver- gilt (Hallmarks for London 1805) obverse featuring a mounted galloping cavalry man, sabre at ready, "Pro Rege et Patria" inscribed above, "For Merit" in exergue, reverse inscribed "Yarmouth Cavalry to Cpl H Curtis for Skill at Sword exercise Sept. 1805, good, very fine, with silver-gilt ring suspension. Diss Volunteer Infantry 1811 An oval engraved medal with triplestepped rim, 67mm x 50mm, silver ( Hallmarks for London 1811), obverse centre inscribed 'G.R.' with 'Diss Volunteer Infantry ' around, surrounded by trophy of arms including cannon balls, sword, standards, drum etc. 'Reward of Merit 1811' in exergue, reverse inscribed 'Awarded to Mr Jabez Waller for Proficiency at the Military Exercises', good very fine, with silver loop suspension. Victoria Cross interest. Tribute medal with Tommy charging with Rifle and Bayonet to obverse and reverse engraved "For gallantry" "Cpl H Day VC Suffolk Regt" Corporal Day was a Norwich man and whilst the medal is currently unidentified, we believe it is a privately presented Tribute medal and as such is a rare link to a local VC recipient. A fine portrait of him is in the Suffolk Regt 1914-18 History and much more detail is to be found on the internet about him. A most desirable and researchable item. His VC group has never appeared on the market and is believed still to be in private hands. GVF

Cold Military Medal GV and Bar named to 10535 Private H Taylor, GDS. Herbert Taylor won the MM in 1916 and bar in 1918. Sadly he died in 1931 and records state medals re-issued to mother in 1932, the MM has an unusual naming style and is probably a later issue, the bar being slightly larger than WW1 issues, with research confirming MM & Bar. Born Stonehouse, Plymouth Devon. Wounded in the action of 18th June 1855 “before Sebastopol” on the first attack on the Redan. Received a silver medal with a gratuity of £5.00 for distinguished Conduct in the Field 13th April 1855. Discharged with pension “after 21 years service, 15½ year service abroad. Medals... “ Medal with clasp Lahore Crimea Medal and Clasp Turkish War Medal Medal for distinguished Conduct in the Field” Character and Conduct: “His conduct has been very good. He was in possession of four good conduct badges when promoted Sergeant”. The earliest recorded recipient of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the 9th Foot. 39

Victory medals WWI RFC & RAF interest to the Dawes Brothers, one a casualty.3751 Sgt A Dawe RAF & 8018 Cpl H Dawe RAF, the brothers from Leamington Spa enlisted in 1914 & 1915. Arthur was killed in Salonika 27.6.1918 with 37 Squadron of the newly formed RAF and is buried in Lahana Cemetery, Salonika(Greece) Scarce RAF casualty.

South African Delville Wood officers Casualty 1914-15 star trio with MID named T/Lt W F Hoptroff 1st INFY,(Capt on pair with Bi-Lingual Victory) Captain Wallace Hoptroff was KIA as a Company Commander on 18th July 1916 during the South African Brigades epic struggle for Delville Wood during the Somme Offensive. His body was located post war and he now lies in Serre Rd Cemetery No2. Delville Wood now has the South African War Memorial & Museum. NEF

Harvey VC, L.S.H" this was Lieut Frederick Maurice Watson HARVEY of the Canadian Lord Strathcona's House and with Lieut Flowerdew (Framlingham, Suffolk) Were awarded Victoria Crosses.
