Souvenir of Norwich dated 1870-71 - A rare glass bound portfolio entitled 'Souvenir £120 - 200 of Norwich' containing six panels of photographs. It appears that this was a presentation to the Clabburn family who had given refuge to Madame Jules Hugonin and her two daughters who had fled from the Prussian invasion of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. On the upper cover the title 'Souvenir of Norwich' in gilt is surrounded by a laurel wreath which in turn is framed by a double red border enclosing a delicately hand-painted design of a grape vine. The stylised gilt vine joins the purple grapes and leaves. The lower cover shows the dates 1870 & 1871 with the ampersand surrounded by a wreath of leaves with blue flowers, set in a double red border. Both covers are lined with silk and bound with gilt ribbon. The spine is red cloth. The blue ribbon fastening is torn due to the weight of the glass and the panels. Six mounts holding photographs of: Our House; East end of Norwich Cathedral; The Cow Tower; Interior of Norwich Cathedral; Norwich from Chalk Hill; Norwich Market Place and photographs of the Clabburn family (Thomas and B. Blanch and their children, Claud H., John G., Ernest H., Blanch Elizabeth and Tom George).
