James Barrett Co. was founded in 2010 in Syracuse, NY. Since April 2010, James Barrett Co. has sold more than 5,000 products to customers from over 31 states across the U.S. primarily through the website and retail locations on the East Coast.
James (21 years old) is currently a senior at Syracuse University majoring in Communications Design with a minor in Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises. In April 2010 James took an elective printmaking class freshman year at Syracuse. For his final project he created the ‘Peace Tee.’ James wanted to create a shirt that had a feel-good vibe while also encompassing a strong combination of design and message. He posted an event on Facebook hoping to make 20 shirts for the project but had such a large response that he made over 100 shirts and continued since. James continues each day to grow the company and seize opportunities.

The Hope Tee Collection was released in April 2012. They represent Hope, crossed fingers. The Hope Tees are a social collection where the current 5 color combinations are linked to 5 different causes. 10% of each Hope Tee purchase is donated to the respective cause.

James Barrett Co. had a summer kiosk for 2 months (July-August 2012) at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Northern New Jersey. • Over 16 employees total worked at the kiosk.
J.Michael first started selling James Barrett Co.’s Peace Pinnies in October 2011. J.Michael is an independent store that is a staple to Syracuse University. They carry top designer brands from Uggs to North Face. James Barrett Co. has had multiple successful trunk shows and other special events at J.Michael.
James Barrett Co. has a strong social media presence. Primarily with the Facebook page ‘James Barrett Co.’ and additionally with Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Blogger. To us engaging with the fans is crucial to see what they like, how they respond to new releases, and creating a relationship with the customer - bringing them beyond their purchase. Customers post photos wearing their James Barrett Co. products. There is an album on our Facebook Page ‘Peace Tees Around the World’ where customers have sent in photos from Greece to Spain to Aruba in their JBco apparel.

James Barrett Co. competed in the Syracuse University Panasci Business Plan Competition. James Barrett Co. received 3rd place overall (a $5,000 prize). Additionally, Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Business honored James with the ‘Student Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.
