How your industrial sewing machine is now in every home! Believe it or not, the history of sewing goes back to 20,000 years from today, right from the last ice age for that matter. Many archaeologists have found that needles were used to sew fur and skin together too. Imagine that, right from the prehistoric times! Though the art of sewing was prevalent, it did take a lot of time for the Sewing machine to come to existence though. The first machine was made only by the late 1700s. It was invented by Thomas Saint and was used to sew leather and canvas. It was only till 1860 that sewing machines were used in commercial use and specifically towards the industrial side of the business. Most of the sewing or stitching needs that were required domestically were done by basic tailoring needs. Till the 1920s, Stitching machine were used more from an industrial perspective than anything else. It was used in huge corporations to produce clothing in a big way. This was only shifted towards 'home' utility in the 40s, many commercial brands started producing these machines in large numbers and over the years have become a product that we must have at home.
