ST EXTENSION OF EXISTING STREETSCAPE: AXIS AN AXIS PLACED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE PLANNING OF THE SURROUNDING LANDSCAPE AS WELL AS THE INDIVIDUAL BUILDING FLOOR PLANS. HAVING AN AXIS CA WALKWAY PARK ALLOWS PEDESTRIANS TO WALK FROM THEIR CARS, THAT DOUBLES AS AR PAST THE CONVENIENCE STORE, BENEATH THE SURF CLUB THROUGH THE S.L.S.C, AND TO THE SURF LIFE SAVING TOWER/BEACH.

FUNCTION C R E AT E S O R G A N I S E D L AY O U T F O R W E E K LY M A R K E T S
WHEN SPEAKING OF FUNCTION I REFER TO TWO DIFFERENT SUB-HEADINGS... 1) THE FUNCTION OF THE ARCHITECTURE IN RELATION TO ITS USE AS A PUBLIC AMENITY: CREATION OF SPACES FOR EXISTING EVENTS 2) THE WAY IN WHICH THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDINGS ARE INFORMED BY THE FUNCTION THAT IS REQUIRED OF THEM. EVENTS SUCH AS THE SUNDAY MARKETS AND PEREGIAN ORIGINALS CONCERTS GOVERN HOW THE EXISTING SPACE IS USED DURING THOSE PERIODS OF TIME. THROUGH THE SHIFTING OF LEVELS I HAVE CREATED A SPACE DEDICATED TO THE SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS THAT CURRENTLY TAKE PLACE IN THE AREA. IN RELATION TO THE FUNCTION IN RELATION TO BUILDING PLANNING, I HAVE CHOSEN TO SEPARATE THE MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF THE EXISTING SURF CLUB TODAY TO CREATE TWO PHYSICALLY SPERATED YET INTERLINKED BUILDING TYPOLOGIES.

FORM
FORM REFERS TO THE OVERALL SHAPE AND CONFIGURATION OF THE BUILDING. THE BUILDING IS EXPLORED AND HAS BEEN DEFINED BY AN IDEA REGARDING THE FUSION OF THREE PROGRESSIVELY CHANGING CONSTRUCTION TYPES. THIS, AS WELL AS THE FUNCTIONAL ASPECTS TO THE BUILDING, DETERMINE THE OVERALL ARCHITECTURAL FORM.

FACADE SECTION B 1:50
FACADE REFERS TO THE EXTERIOR FACES OF THE BUILDING FORM. AS A RESULT OF THE IDEAS THAT GOVERN FORM, THE FACADE IS ALSO DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THESE IDEAS. THREE MAJOR FACADE ELEMENTS ARE USED THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING: LIGHTWEIGHT TIMBER SCREENING, AN LVL BEAM ARRANGEMENT AND PRECAST COLOURED CONCRETE PANELS. THE ANGLED LVL BEAM ARRANGEMENT SHOWN IN THE ELEVATIONS AND DETAILS BELOW HAS BEEN DERIVED FROM THE FORM OF THE SURROUDNING PANDANUS ROOT AND LEAF SYSTEMS. THE OCEAN FACING FACADE [ELEVATION B] DEPICTS A CURTAIN WALL DIVIDED BY THE LVL BEAMS. THE IMAGE SHOWN BELOW [WESTERN ELEVATION] DEMONSTRATES HOW THE CENTRAL ROW OF CURTAIN WALL PANELS ARE SET ON ROLLERS AND A HENCE CAN BE PULLED DOWN TO BECOME A BALUSTRADE. THE FACADE IS IMPERATIVE TO THE BUILDINGS CLIMATIC FUNCTION, DESIGN AND AESTHETICS.
