CURRENT PROJECT - GENERATIVE DESIGN - HEALTH SPA STAGE 1 - USING THE ENVIRONMENT FOR INSPIRATION TO CREATE AN ARRAY OF FORMS LOOKING AT VARIOUS THEMES AND USING VARIOUS MODELLING TECHNIQUES INCLUDING CNC ROUTING, 3D PRINTING, LASER CUTTING AND ALSO BY HAND. A STUDY INTO CAVE FORMATIONS RESULTED IN A NUMBER OF ITERATIONS AS SHOWN BELOW.
STAGE 2 - DESIGN A HEALTH SPA IN THE NORTH WEST OF THE WIRRAL PENISULA. USING THE FORMS IN STAGE 1 I LOOKED AT USING THESE IRREGULAR FORMS TO CREATE A BUILDING WITH SHALLOW INCLINES AND DECLINES TO EASE PEOPLE INTO POOLS AND OTHER AREAS. I DECIDED TO BLEND THE BUILDING INTO THE LANDSCAPE + MAKE THE INTERIOR MAINLY TRANSPARENT TO KEEP THE VIEW THROUGH OUT ONTO THE WATER. THE MATERIALS USED CREATE A SENSE OF SUKE SUKE. THERE IS ALSO A SERIES OF COVERED `+ UNCOVERED COURTYARDS TO RELAX IN.
GENERATIVE DESIGN - FERRY TERMINAL STAGE 1 - USING PRECEDENTS LOOK AT FORM FINDING WITH EMPHASIS ON MATERIAL, STRUCTURE + DETAILING. CREATED AN ARRAY OF FORMS FROM THE SAME 3 CUBOID SIZES. LOOKING AT VARIOUS THEMES (SOLIDS + VOIDS, THRESHOLDS, STRUCTURE INTEGRATION, HORIZONTAL + VERTICAL) MOVING TOWARDS THE MOST COMPLEX FORM. STAGE 2 - DESIGN A FERRY TERMINAL FOR SEACOMBE WITH THE OPTION TO DEMOLISH OR INCORPORATE THE EXISTING BUILDING. USING THE FORMS + RESEARCH FROM STAGE 1 I LOOKED AT USING STEEL TO CREATE A MIST EFFECT FOR THE TERMINAL. THE MODULES USED WERE AT HUMAN SCALE SO THAT THEY COULD BE INTERACTED WITH AND BECOMING SEATING. I DECIDED TO KEEP THE EXISTING BUILDING AND RETROFIT IT. I ALSO DESIGNED PUBLIC SPACE WITH SOFT LANDSCAPING AS WELL AS HARD LANDSCAPING THUS MAKING THE SPACE FLEXIBLE FOR FUTURE EXPANSION.
URBAN INFILL - LIBRARY (YEAR 2) DESIGN A LIBRARY WITH A CAFE + OFFICES. THIS PROJECT WAS IN THE CENTRE OF MANCHESTER’S NORTHERN QUARTER WITH AN EMPHASIS ON URBAN STUDIES + CONTEXT. I DESIGNED AN ALL BRICK BUILDING TO FIT IN WITH THE EXISTING CONTEXT. I ALSO CREATED USEABLE/ACCESSIBLE PUBLIC SPACE WITHIN THE SITE.
