Well, this is it. My last week as Lieutenant Governor of Division 12. I will sincerely miss visiting clubs, attending and participating in service projects, and meeting all of you. I doubted this year would fly by so fast but it truly did. Friday is the New Rochelle High School Key Club Masquerade Dinner and Dance! Governor Nadyli Nunez will be present, over 100 people have RSVPed, and if you attend, you’re bound to have a great night! Proceeds will go towards the March of Dimes and club activities. After the dance, on Saturday, we have our last divisional meeting. It will be held at Woodlands High School from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. It is a potluck meeting so please bring snacks and drinks! This divisional is mandatory for Club Presidents and Officers. Saturday, April 2nd is also Kiwanis One Day. For those clubs who have planned something with your Kiwanis Family, awesome! For those who have yet to plan a service project or event, it’s never too late to contact your Kiwanis Club and hold a project! The Leadership Training Conference is next week from April 8th through 10th.

For those attending, you’re in for a real treat! Please contact me regarding any questions, comments, or concerns about the conference. Remember, it is Broadway themed so bring your masks and costumes! If you are not attending the Leadership Training Conference, please consider attending the Westchester Pancreatic Research Walk on April 10th. I met and spoke with Ms. Tara, who in charge of this memorial walk for her mother, and it seems like a great cause! They need all the volunteers and contributors they can get! Please check your email or contact me for more information. Those are my final updates for the 20102011 service year. I hope you all had a great year and enjoyed serving your homes, schools, and communities! For juniors and underclassmen, keep up the great work! I know I’ll be leaving you in good hands with Marcus as your next Lieutenant Governor. For us seniors, make sure to keep service and the Kiwanis Family in mind when attending college. And join, or start, a Circle K! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, always feel free to contact me! And even if you just want to chat, please feel free to contact me as well! My full contact information is on page 9. Thanks again for an amazing year!

The Olympian

Greetings from your Governor! By Governor Nadyli Nuñez

Hello Key Clubbers! As this service year comes to a close, I invite you to look back on the myriad of moments that you and your club have helped those around you; and I also hope that you’ll have the opportunity to share those moments with fellow Key Clubbers at this year’s Leadership Training Conference! As you know, this year’s Conference is coming up very soon (April 8th-10th), and I’m very excited to share the weekend with you. As you prepare for the Conference, make sure to bring your Medical Forms and check out the Code of Conduct and LTC Checklist. Also, if your club owes any paperwork, there is still time to submit it. Any missed paperwork (including forms from inactive

clubs) should be submitted online before April 7th. Every service hour counts! If your club is interested in being featured in the District Slideshow, submit any club photos ASAP to District Webmaster Emily. Also, I have recently emailed a newsletter through the District Mailing List containing details about LTC and the remainder of the service year. If you have not yet glanced at it, make sure to sign up for the Mailing List online and check out the newsletter online in the paperwork/ resources section of the District Website. Over this past service year, I have been incredibly honored to work with you. I have witnessed the magnitude of service our district provides, and I am proud to have served you as Governor. It has been an incredible experience to lead the District, and truly cannot wait to see you and bid you farewell at this year’s annual Leadership Training Conference. All forms, contacts, and newsletters can be found online at www.nydkc.org.

Monthly Report Forms By Secretary Grace Na

With our terms coming to an end, it is important that we finish strong. It is crucial that all Monthly Report Forms are submitted on time. The district will be announcing the total amount of hours served and money collected at the Leadership Training Conference. To get an accurate total, I must receive the Monthly Report Forms from all clubs. It is never too late to submit a past Monthly Report Form. If you did not do any service events, fundraisers, or meetings, you must still submit a Monthly Report Form for that month. In the description you may just write you were inactive during this month. The Monthly Report Form is a communication system between a club and the district, so the district knows how well each club is doing. Also there is an area for secretaries to describe any complications that happening with their club. If there are any problems, fill this section out because I would love to help anyone out. If you need assistance of have any questions please email! I hope to see everyone at the Leadership Training Conference, and if not, I hope that you end the Key Club year off strong!

Leadership Training Conference By Conference Chair Emma Cheng

With the end of the 2010-2011 service year fast approaching, it’s time to start looking ahead to the 63rd Leadership Training Conference on April 8-10! In just a week, Key Clubbers from all over the New York District will gather together to celebrate their achievements and start preparing for the next service year. As the culmination of the District's efforts from 2010 to 2011, the convention will proudly display all members' work and gifts through scheduled events like the talent show and ceremonies. Attendees will have a unique chance to socialize with Key Clubbers during dinner gatherings, dances, and free time. Most importantly, though, the Leadership Training Conference inspires us every year by displaying all the accomplishments of the influential Key Club organization. As this year’s Conference Chair, I have already had an exclusive inside look at the 63rd annual convention. The Leadership Training Conference’s new theme, “Broadway,” is sure to keep a lively, fun atmosphere, with new workshops such as improv acting, professionalism, writing college essays, and quick dance classes! Other more customary workshops, like fundraising, making meetings move, and service ideas will continue to help Key Clubbers prepare for a new, productive year of service and leadership. While last year’s conference was held in Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello, New York, this year’s locale has changed to a Holiday Inn in Albany. I am proud to say that the hotel is definitely an improvement from previous sites. With comfortable rooms and facilities, this year’s Leadership Training Conference is most certainly going to be a success, so start counting down the days!

Distinguished Key Clubber By Lt. Governor Katie Toomey

Each year over 200 Key Clubbers work to serve their home, schools and communities to the best of their ability. The Distinguished Key Clubber Committee has worked to create the 2010-2011 Distinguished Key Clubber Award to recognize those Key Clubbers that have gone above and beyond the call of duty, to ensure your hard work is congratulated! This year so far I have received over 100 applications, but I know there are many more to come! Please make sure you are sending your Distinguished Key Clubber Applications to either katietoomey.ltg@nydkc.org or my address listed on the District website. We want to make sure every application is received and in order to do this we have created two resources. The first resource is a status update posted on the New York District Website each Thursday and Sunday. This is so clubs can check each week which application I have received and whose application I am still missing. The second resource is the New York District Distinguished Key Clubber Application Facebook Group. This group is to ask questions about the award and is updated daily with whose application I have received from that day. Please be sure to utilize these resources and make the most out of them. Remember the last date for applications is April 1st so please get yours out before then. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask, you may email me at katietoomey.ltg@nydkc.org or call me anytime. Thank you and keep up the good work! :]

Advocacy By Lt. Governor Katie Ciepliki

Recently, state budgets have become a major topic of discussion at my high school. The question of who will stay and who will go has echoed through our hallways, and added lines to our teacher's stressed faces. Of course, we complain incessantly about the amount of homework our teachers give us and how tough they grade our papers, but at the end of the day, they're people too, people with families they need to support. At the end of the day, if you're like me, we genuinely like most of our teachers and don't want to see them lose their jobs. The news of the dismissal of one staff member at my high school in particular, the school psychologist, sent a wave of shock through the school. We all loved this man, he was enthusiastic, intelligent, had helped some of us through really difficult times. Instead of sitting by and letting him lose his job, my friends and I passed around a petition advocating that his position be saved. We got over 300 signatures. The effort of a few, dedicated students, caused the school board to reconsider cutting the position. Ultimately, the school psychologist's position was saved! See, advocacy isn't just something that has an effect on people far away from you, it can impact your own school and life as well. All you need to do is take action!

Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center By Lt. Governor Yasmin Soliman

The Leadership Training Conference is coming up, and that means the end of the 20102011 Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center committee. However, that does not mean the end of the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center. We have about 1 week left for the conference, but that does not mean to stop funding for KPTC! This year we have successfully raised $5,912 for KPTC, and I congratulate the entire New York District for your tremendous efforts! There will be a new Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma center committee after the conference consisting of your newly elected Lieutenant Governors. We have succeeded in raising a large amount of money for KPTC, and I hope Key Club will continue this success, with the help of the new committee, in the year to come.

Kiwanis Family Relations By Lt. Governor Dylan Gross

As we come closer and closer to the 63rd annual Leadership Training Conference, it’s time to reflect on the 2010-2011 service year. Has your club strengthened its relationship with your sponsoring Kiwanis club? What about doing a service project with your local K-Kids, Builders Club, Circle K or Aktion Club? Throughout this entire year, you hard working New York District Key Clubbers have gone throughout the District and reached out to your local Kiwanis Family members to do some amazing service projects. Not only do they support us with projects to attend, but our local Kiwanis clubs also financially support us for things such as dues, attending the International Convention and attending the New York District’s Leadership Training Conference! Have you taken the time to think all about what our Kiwanis family has helped us with, and what possibly lies ahead? For you current seniors, you’ve done a fantastic job with Key Club, now let’s see if we can make Circle K or Kiwanis just as awesome! Please make sure to reach out to those Kiwanis Family members that have helped you out this year and make sure to thank them for a job well done. Thank you all for a fantastic service year! I can’t wait to meet you at the LTC next weekend!
