We are now inviting applications for the role of Allied Counties Head Coach. We are interested in talking to ambitious coaches who wish to manage at team at this level and to be part of the senior pathway at Penn. The club currently have a Development and 1st Team which play in the Hellenic League and the Allied Counties team will be the foundation level to senior, men’s football at Penn. Coaches should apply with a cover letter / email setting out why they are interested and what they would bring to the role. You should also include a football CV setting out your playing, coaching and managerial experience. We would expect all applicants to have achieved or be working towards FA level 2 coaching qualifications and we would actively encourage and fund future coach education programmes. All applicants must hold a current FA CRC and emergency first aid certificate. Applications should be made via email to our Chairman, Tony Hurst. The deadline for applications is Friday 7th February with successful applicants being invited to an interview in mid to late February. The club will look to appoint a manager as soon as possible after this date. Following the installation of floodlights, Penn & Tylers Green FC will be forming a new Allied Counties team for the season 2020 – 21. Over the last five years there has been significant investment in the clubs playing infrastructure with the installation of a new pitch and floodlights. The club has achieved success on the pitch at both first team and development team level and we have thriving junior boys, girls and ladies’ teams.

Didcot Town FC - Our Opponents

Didcot Town FC were founded in 1907 and prior to becoming founder members of the Hellenic League in 1953 the Club had competed in the North Berks, the Reading & District, the Oxfordshire Senior and also the Metropolitan Leagues, albeit with mixed fortune. Didcot adapted well to the new Hellenic League format and, under the captaincy of Ray Warr (who remains one of the club’s most dedicated supporters), became the inaugural League Champions. After four seasons in the Hellenic League, Didcot joined the Metropolitan League and reached the League Cup Final in 1961/62. Then in 1963 Didcot returned to the Hellenic League where it has remained involved to this day. Didcot waited until the 1965/66 season to taste success again when they won the Premier Division Challenge Cup (Witney Town were defeated 3-2 in the final). The following season the cup was successfully defended but the Club had to wait ten long years for further honours. Indeed, the intervening years had seen Didcot demoted to Division One, but season 1976/77 not only saw a return to the Premier League as Division One Champions (from Flackwell Heath) but also success in the Challenge Cup. A decade later, in 1987, Didcot again returned to the Premier Division after finishing in third place behind champions Bishops Cleeve and runners-up Cheltenham Town Reserves. The Club benefited from Hellenic League rules which prevented Cheltenham Reserves from participating in the Premier Division and Didcot took the second and last promotion spot. The season was rounded off with success in the Division One Challenge Cup, where Cheltenham Town Reserves, again the victims, were defeated 2-0 in the final.The Club remained in the Premier Division for the next six campaigns, and managed a notable honour in 1992 when they lifted the Premier Division Cup (Banbury United defeated 3-0 in the final). Despite this success the following season resulted in disappointment with relegation to Division One. Within three years the Club was reinstated to the Premier League and while the League Cup was won in 1997, the Club had to wait until they moved to the impressive new Loop Meadow Stadium (in 1999) before a turnaround of fortunes was truly achieved. In fact, the Club established itself as one of the most consistent performers in the Premier Division over the next 7 years, never finishing outside the top 7. And along the way silverware has been lifted in the form of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy (2001 and 2003), the League’s Supplementary Cup (2003) and the Challenge Cup (2004). Season 20042005 ended up as arguably the most successful in the club’s history so far following a memorable 3-2 win in the final of the FA Vase at White Hart Lane against pre-tournament favourites AFC Sudbury. This came on the back of the Club retaining the League Challenge Cup with a 5-1 win against Carterton. Didcot came agonizingly close to claiming the treble but failed to win the League by a point despite amassing 97 points and winning 31 of their 42 matches. The Club also ended with their best ever defensive record, just 21 League goals conceded including a remarkable 19 clean sheets at the Loop Meadow. After a wait of 53 years, the team finally brought the Hellenic League trophy back to Didcot in 2006 and with it the Club ensured a move up into the Southern League for the first time. The Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and the Hellenic League Challenge Cup were also claimed, the latter to make Didcot the first Club to win the competition three times in a row. The League triumph broke all records with Didcot Town becoming the first Club to reach more than 100 points in a season in the Hellenic League and the average points per game (2.63) gave Didcot the best record of any club at level 5 or above in British football that year.

Fallow seasons followed with sporadic FA Cup and FA Trophy success. However, things started to improve in 2014, when new management duo of Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy (both DTFC legends) were appointed as Joint Managers following a period of uncertainty and destabilising management changes. DTFC fought through numerous qualifying rounds of the FA Trophy to be eventually awarded a prime fixture versus Forest Green away. DTFC managed to draw that match (to the euphoria of the strong travelling contingent) and were narrowly beaten when Forest Green returned to the Loop Meadow Stadium a week later. Didcot Town’s biggest moment came in the FA Cup in 2015. DTFC managed to qualify for the 1st Round of the FA Cup with a home tie against Exeter City. Being the underdog, Didcot Town were even awarded a live televised tie on BT Sport, which didn’t deter a record crowd of 2,707 to the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium. DTFC employed manager Andy Ballard in December 2018 following the sudden departure of Heapy and Concannon. Ballard stepped up into the role as caretaker manager whilst still being a key player in the side and after a mixed start, Didcot finished the 15-16 Season strongly to finish 10th. Ballard’s first full season in charge was full of many highs and lows as a number of key player departures drew mixed results but the 17-18 season saw Didcot exceed all expectations as they finished in 6th place to secure a place in the Play off’s. A 2-0 defeat in the semi finals to Wimborne Town couldn’t deny a brilliant season for The Railwaymen which included a Final appearance in The bigfreebet.com Challenge Cup. In the 2019 close season Jamie Heapy returned to his “Railwayman” roots to manage once more, along with Paul Bedwell as his assistant. Didcot Town retain their Hellenic League heritage by maintaining a Development side who are established members of the uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East. The side, predominately consisting of young players, will be looking to improve on the 5th place achieved in season 18/19. In addition to the Development side, Didcot also retain Hellenic recognition with two sides playing in the Veterans football divisions.

Didcot Town FC History
Moving closer to present day, Didcot Town have enjoyed spells in the South & West Premier Division, following play off success against AFC Totton in 2009. Didcot Town stayed in that league for 2 seasons before being relegated courtesy of Windsor being removed from the league following financial difficulties. Ironically, Didcot Town were one of the few Club’s to take points off Windsor that season, so it was a bitter pill for DTFC to swallow.

Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and second world wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 18th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hats giving rise to the clubs blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960′s, the brick building built in the 1980′s and the extension developed in 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom Public House. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the county, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adults pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (under-fives) through every age group and all the way to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the contin- ued success of the club. We are quite simply, the biggest organisation in the village provid - ing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in a marvellous team game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and patio of the Sports and Social Club, provide an excellent setting for a hazy lazy afternoon, watching Cricket, Tennis and Football in close proximity in an idyllic setting with views over the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The new extension is for hire and is ideal for meetings of local clubs. Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week, it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. However, it remains the desire of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible can play at French School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini football to the children of the local area, they are our future. The club is also desirous of improving the senior pitch all the time to ensure that they have the best possible playing surface. The club is a holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter Status and is proud of both its illustrious past and its plans for the future. We are proud, of course, that The First Team won the Hellenic League – Division One (East) title in season 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and the Reserves wining the Hellenic League – Division Two (East) title in season 2015/2016. The Reserves also won the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup in Seasons 2013/2014 and 2014/2015

Our Club History
Our present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the 1911/12 season by winning the Wycombe League. This Championship side was captained by George Slade, of Slade’s Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor.

Sam Butcher – Keeper Ex Holmer Green keeper who took a year out to start his physical fitness business, big, strong, loud and technically gifted keeper, great for the dressing room. James Britnell – keeper Again another big physical presence in the sticks, great one on one, and has a great pair of hands, being an ex outfield player he’s very confident with the ball at his feet. Mikey Moore Young centre back, played intermittently last season due to Uni, will be looking to crack on and fullfill his big potential, another calm, technically good player. Phill Arko Young CB, currently playing for Beaconsfields Allied youth team, made a good impression pre-season, quick, physical and mature beyond his years, one to watch. Joe Dulieu Another big presence at the back, strong in the air, both footed, Joe was a late addition last season, and helped gel our back line. Jamie Hunt Experienced defender, Jamie’s ability allows him to play in a number of positions, but his strength as a leader lends him to playing at the back, good presence in the squad.
