The first 10 minutes on the difficult surface, was end to end with Aldermarston probably just gaining the upper hand in midfield on a quagmire of a pitch, and their lively forwards tested Nigel Miller in the Penn goal on a couple of occasions. On 11 minutes a decisive run into the Aldermarston box by Jamie West was ended with a robust illegal challenge and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped George Weller to take the kick, but it was placed too near to the Aldermarston goalkeeper and he saved with ease and the rebound was cleared. The game was on a knife edge and to their credit, both teams endeavoured to get the ball down and play football when they could. Casey Bocarro had an effort fly narrowly over and Chris Hurst had a good low effort saved for Penn and at the other end Aldermarston were also firing in some good efforts either too wide or too high. On 22 minutes Aldermaston’s number nine Parton-Edy picked up the ball in midfield and from 25 yards curled in a beauty with the outside of his left foot past the stranded Nigel Miller in the Penn goal to put Aldermarston1-0 up. In recent weeks this would have knocked the stuffing out of Penn but this week with the revised line-up it seemed to galvanise the Penn players and they continued to attack and play with confidence but had to nevertheless go in 1-0 down at half time.

Penn came out for the second half and immediately stamped their authority and intentions on the game as they were now attacking at will and on 50 minutes after a good corner to the far post there was a rejuvenated Casey Bocarro to hook in from 8 yards for a confidence boosting equaliser. This goal had the desired effect and Penn now looked to be sensing a victory and sure enough on 60 minutes, when the goalkeeper and defender made a complete hash of dealing with a harmless through, ball Chris Hurst, who had followed the “lost cause”, was able to capitalise on the error and walk the ball into the empty net to put a happy and relieved Penn side 2-1 up. This knocked the stuffing out of the resilient Aldermarston side and from that moment Penn continued to push forward in numbers at regular intervals. They were rewarded for their pressure on 62 minutes when an excellent low shot from the edge of the Aldermarston box from Jamie West hit the inside of the post and ran along the line and Chris Hurst was quickest to react and put the ball back across the goal for the onrushing Adam Harman to smash into the net from six yards to make it 3-1. Penn were now rampant and were further rewarded on 85 minutes when Casey Bocarro topped off a convincing performance by curling a low shot into the right -hand corner of the net to make it 4-1 to Penn and put the game to bed once and for all. This was an excellent confidence boosting performance from Penn with every player doing their job and working together as one, a trait that had been missing in the previous three games. This will hopefully bode well for sterner tests to come

Penn 4—1 AFC Aldermarsston

After three losses in a row Penn & Tylers Green FC emphatically got back to winning ways on Saturday on a miserable wet day at AFC Aldermarston as they had to come from a goal down to eventually win 4-1. Penn had Adam Dickens, a recent signing from Flackwell Heath, making his debut and he slotted in well at the heart of the Penn defence alongside Fred Tripp. Nigel Miller also stepped up for his first game of the season in goal in place of the absent Matt Cannings.

-76 Bicester Town was relegated for the first time in their history. However, with Nigel Cassidy installed as the new manager, a four-year tenure brought a purple patch of success – promotion to the Premier League, champions of the Premier League and Reserve Section League - winners of Division One Cup, and twice winners of the Intermediate Cup. After leading the club to its Premier League success, Nigel Cassidy left to work at a higher level of football. On the brink of being accepted into the Southern League, Bicester Town were hit when key financial backers decided to withdraw their support. Fortunately football's roots were deep in Bicester and old friends came forward. A new committee was formed around people like Roy Davies, Ted Houlihan, Peter Flynn and Charlie Rawlings – with Cyril Beavon becoming manager. The Oxford Road ground boasted a wood, iron and brick stand dating from the 1930s, with terracing and bench seating, and a clubhouse built in 1960. It also had floodlighting. Bicester Town remained at Oxford Road until the club was forced to fold in July 2011. The record attendance recorded at the ground is 955 for a match against Portsmouth in 1994, although it was usually much lower – in the 2005–06 season the best gate was 81. In March 2015, a group of mainly former players decided that Bicester Town should again be an active football club. A new committee was formed and an application made to the Football Association to rejoin the Hellenic League. On 15th May 2015, the Football Association supported Bicester Town Football Club's application and sanctioned that the club rejoin the Hellenic League for the 2015/16 season. Unable to return to the Oxford Road ground, Ardley United Football Club kindly offered Bicester Town a ground-share arrangement for the 2015/16 season in the Hellenic League Division One East. 7

Our Opponents

Bicester Town Football Club, nicknamed 'The Foxhunters', was formed from an amalga- mation between two local clubs, Bicester Rovers and Bicester Harriers, in the late nineteenth century. The Town won the County Shield in 1903 and were then admitted into the County Senior League, playing at this time at the old cricket ground. After the First World War the sports ground was purchased and while waiting for the ground to be converted from a golf course, the club played on other temporary sites, using separate changing facilities at the White Hart in Sheep Street. In 1929, both the football and cricket teams moved onto the former golf course on Oxford Road. At this time John Dearn's horse and trap was used for team transport. Many notable characters emerged in the running of the club and establishing it in local football including, Dr Montgomery, Billy Clifton, Harry Alley, John Hollis and Billy Baughan. Among the players were the Simons family, Jim and Tom Arthur, Harry Dean and Eric Roderick, who was Secretary for 21 years. It was not until 1930 that Bicester brought home the senior trophy of the county – the Senior Cup, winning it again in 1939. After the Second World War the club struggled for players and relied heavily upon service personnel. At one time the club had seven sets of brothers playing in three sides. In 1953 the Hellenic League was formed, and Bicester Town Secretary Charlie Rawlings was a leading figure on the Council in its formation. During the early days of the Hellenic League, the team languished in the lower half, but 1960-61 brought the Foxhunters the Championship for the first time. They needed to beat Swindon in the last game of the season to win the league – goals from Tony and Terry Hawtin sealed a 2-0 victory. The years following this success brought only modest achievements – occasional appearances in semi-fi- nals, winning the local charity shield, and being once Hellenic League runners-up. In 1975

Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and second world wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 18th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hats giving rise to the clubs blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960′s, the brick building built in the 1980′s and the extension developed in 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom Public House. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the county, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adults pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (under-fives) through every age group and all the way to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the contin- ued success of the club. We are quite simply, the biggest organisation in the village provid- ing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in a marvellous team game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and patio of the Sports and Social Club, provide an excellent setting for a hazy lazy afternoon, watching Cricket, Tennis and Football in close proximity in an idyllic setting with views over the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The new extension is for hire and is ideal for meetings of local clubs. Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week, it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. However, it remains the desire of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible can play at French School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini football to the children of the local area, they are our future. The club is also desirous of improving the senior pitch all the time to ensure that they have the best possible playing surface. The club is a holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter Status and is proud of both its illustrious past and its plans for the future. We are proud, of course, that The First Team won the Hellenic League – Division One (East) title in season 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and the Reserves wining the Hellenic League – Division Two (East) title in season 2015/2016. The Reserves also won the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup in Seasons 2013/2014 and 2014/2015

Club History

Our present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the 1911/12 season by winning the Wycombe League. This Championship side was captained by George Slade, of Slade’s Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor.
