This did not awaken the home side and in the 35th minute things got worse as, once again, Patrick Buston received the ball on the right-hand side of the Penn box and weaved his way across the penalty area and unleashed a beauty with his left foot from 20 yards which sailed into the top corner giving Matt Cannings no chance. Penn were now looking at a disaster unravelling before them but they picked themselves up and after a few forays into the Thame half their reward arrived on 42

minutes when Adam Harman was released on the right hand side of the Thame penalty area and he was in no mood to miss as he firmly struck a good low shot into the far corner to take Penn in at half time only one goal adrift which would prove to be vital. Words of wisdom at half time obviously galvanised Penn as they came out for the second half full of purpose and energy and on 56 minutes the recovery was complete when, after great work from Adam Harman who found Danny Burnell who in turn whipped in a great low cross and there was Danny Jordan to complete a lovely move with a simple tap-in to make it all level at 2-2. Penn were now completely in control and the comeback was completed in the 60th minute when Chris Hurst found Casey Bocarro who crossed low and hard towards the near post and the ball took a wicked deflection off the defender which completely wrong footed the Thame goalkeeper and the ball flew in at the near post to put Penn 3-2 up. Penn were now rampant and sensed more goals and on 60 minutes Chris Hurst burst into the right-hand side of the Thame penalty area and although near the goal line the Thame defender needlessly fouled him to give Penn a penalty. Danny Jordan gratefully accepted the gift, sending the goalkeeper the wrong from the resulting spot kick to put Penn in command at 4-2. Penn continued to make chances but could not add to the score and Thame also had a good opportunity for a consolation near the end when Matt Cannings made a good save with his feet to preserve the 4-2 score line and secure another hard earned three points for Penn. Credit to both teams for putting on a marvellous match for the healthy crowd and good luck to Thame for the rest of the season. 5

Penn 4—2 Thame Rangers

Penn came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 and eventually overcome a spirited and good Thame Rangers side at French School Meadow on Saturday in an excellent game which had both sets of supporters experiencing all the emotions a football match can offer. The win keeps Penn on top of the league level on points with Bicester Town but with a game in hand. Penn gave a debut to recent signing from Flackwell Heath Dan Burnell who slotted in up front next to Chris Hurst. Penn started the stronger and in the 10th minute a pass from Danny Jordan released Adam Harman whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper’s feet. Penn continued to press and Casey Bocarro shot narrowly too high and Danny Burnell raced through in the 24th minute and he shot narrowly wide Thame Rangers were also having some good moments and their lively forwards were making good runs behind the Penn defence and causing a few problems. One of these incidents produced a run through on goal but Matt Cannings in the Penn goal raced out to thwart the danger which brought appeals for a penalty which were rightly waved away by the referee. In the 30th minute after a spell of Thame ascendancy an aimless through ball caused hesitation in the Penn defence and the Thame centre forward Patrick Buston expertly lobbed the onrushing Matt Cannings from 20 yards to put Thame 1-0 up.

the semi-final for the first time in 2007 only to lose to the eventual winners Banbury United. The highest placed Hellenic finish the club has to date is 5th achieved in the season of 2012/13 & 2014/15 under the guidance of Manager David Ridgley and Assistants Lewis Craker and Craig Williams. For the 2015/16 season the club continues with the same ambitious management team who will be hoping to build on last year’s achievements. The club will again play in the FA Vase and have also qualified for the prestigious FA Cup for only the second time in the clubs history. The club will be running four Saturday teams this season with two in the Uhlsport Hellenic League & two in the Wycombe Senior League. The club will also be running two Veterans sides in the Hellenic Veterans Premier & Division One. Off the field the club has seen massive changes as following on from being awarded FA Community Club of the year by Oxfordshire FA through their partnership with Chinnor Youth the ground has seen the installation of floodlights & stands bringing it up to the required FA ground grading. Also within the Ladies section we are running three very successful sides at under 12, under 14, and under 16, With teams representing the club in The South Bucks Mini Soccer Conference, The South Bucks Minor League, The South Bucks Youth League and the Oxford Ladies League we are one of the largest Youth Football Clubs in Oxfordshire. Two big milestones for the club was to apply for the FA Charter Standard Award, and in November 2002 the club was pleased to announce that they were successful in their application and then applied for the FA Charter "Commu- nity" status which is the highest accolade a club can receive of which Only a handful of Village clubs in Oxfordshire have been awarded. This is something we at Chinnor Football Club are very proud of. With the safety of your children paramount, the club now has 25 FA Qualified Coaches, Emergency First Aiders and also a registered Child Protection Officer in place. 7

Our Opponents

Chinnor Football Club was originally formed in 1884, making it one of the oldest clubs in Oxford- shire, and then reconstituted itself in 1970 playing in the Wycombe & District League, the Chiltonian League and subsequently the Oxfordshire Senior League. In 1971 two parents wanted to provide football for the younger players who didn't want to wait until they were old enough to play in men's football. As a result they set up two teams and overnight the Chinnor Boys Football Club was established. In 1987 after sixteen years of growth there were eight league teams covering boys from nine to sixteen years of age. At that time as a part of bringing the club image more up to date its name changed to Chinnor Youth Football Club. (This also helped to cover the fact that some of the girls of the village had joined teams at younger ages). The club has continued to go from strength to strength attracting more boys and girls and fielding more teams each season. We now have teams at every age group from under 7 to under 16, and also at youth level at under 17 and under 18. In order to meet League rulings for playing two teams in one age group Chinnor Boys was reconstituted in 1988 but was changed to Chinnor Colts in 2001. League rulings once again forced two major changes within the club. Firstly the introduction of non-competitive football for the younger age groups hence our under 7 to under 10 age groups playing small sided soccer at a very high standard. Secondly, mixed football not being allowed after under 12 meant that the club was about to lose some very talented lady footballers. Luckily for Chinnor the girls stuck together and with some excellent support from parents Chinnor Ladies was formed in 2001. In 2003 the Mens team finished runners up in the Oxfordshire Senior League & took the decision to make the step up to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The first two seasons saw steady progress finishing 11th & then 9th. The only real highlight of the next three years was an excellent run in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with the club reaching

Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and second world wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 18th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hats giving rise to the clubs blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960′s, the brick building built in the 1980′s and the extension developed in 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom Public House. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the county, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adults pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (under-fives) through every age group and all the way to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the contin- ued success of the club. We are quite simply, the biggest organisation in the village provid- ing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in a marvellous team game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and patio of the Sports and Social Club, provide an excellent setting for a hazy lazy afternoon, watching Cricket, Tennis and Football in close proximity in an idyllic setting with views over the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The new extension is for hire and is ideal for meetings of local clubs. Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week, it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. However, it remains the desire of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible can play at French School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini football to the children of the local area, they are our future. The club is also desirous of improving the senior pitch all the time to ensure that they have the best possible playing surface. The club is a holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter Status and is proud of both its illustrious past and its plans for the future. We are proud, of course, that The First Team won the Hellenic League – Division One (East) title in season 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and the Reserves wining the Hellenic League – Division Two (East) title in season 2015/2016. The Reserves also won the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup in Seasons 2013/2014 and 2014/2015

Club History

Our present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the 1911/12 season by winning the Wycombe League. This Championship side was captained by George Slade, of Slade’s Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor.
