Headstrong & happy orn in Hong Kong almost fifty years ago, this actress is still stunning and well-known worldwide despite her decision to withdraw from acting three years ago. With countless films under her belt (including Jackie Chan’s “Police Story” series, “As Tears Go By” and “Chinese Box”), she had already won over a dedicated following, but she continues to collect fans as she pursues her new occupations – composing film scores and painting. She opted to retire from acting when she felt she had reached her full potential – in fact, she had achieved enormous success, becoming the first Asian actress to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival (for “Clean” in 2004) and a much-requested juror at various international film festivals. Her international success is naturally helped by the fact that she is truly multi-lingual. Having grown up in both Hong Kong and England, she can speak both Cantonese and English, as well as Mandarin and French. Her looks, of course, are another major factor – before acting, she worked as a model, taking runner-up place in the Miss Hong Kong 1983 pageant and arriving in the semi-finals of the Miss World contest that same year. Maggie’s time is also dedicated to her charity work, particularly to her role as a
UNICEF Ambassador to China, making her a true role model in all aspects. Having demonstrated such verve and vivacity over the first fifty years leaves us wondering what she has planned for the next fifty.
James Mac opinion
Top stylist James Mac hails from star-studded Los Angeles. A great believer in industry education, James has spent the last fifteen years passing on his own expertise to others, in his role as a salon-owner and educator. In 2003 he relocated to Bangkok to open the popular James Mac Studio, which keeps him busy five days a week, but he still finds time to go back Stateside to visit family and update his skills at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. So, what does this international professional have to say about Maggie Cheung? “Maggie Cheung has amazing hairstyle versatility, thanks to her oval face and beautiful features. I find short bobs and long-mid lengths look great on her. When long, it complements her playful fun personality and if pinned up it gives her an elegant, mature look. I suggest that Maggie keeps a short-to-long sweeping fringe, with a bit of texture, as it gives her a soft, warm look in line with her personality. With her beautiful figure, she can carry off all sorts of clothes however she styles her hair. Although she could have left the chain belt at home, the Greek goddess dress here is beautiful. A loose chignon might have been a good choice, but she looks great here anyway!
“I suggest a bit of colour, a few hidden panels of natural brown tones for movement and texture” Maggie Cheung shows off her versatility, in her looks and career.
