SEPTEMBER 2012 - NEWSLETTER A WARM WELCOME
JIHIHJJHHHH Welcome, or welcome back, to all children and their families. We hope that you have had a refreshing break and are looking forward to the challenges and events that the next three terms will bring Last year ended on a ‘high’ with the fantastic performances of ‘All Aboard the SS Galaxy’ – thank you for your support with this and it is just worth reflecting on how brilliant all of the children were. The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics have proved inspirational for so many people. The aim to ‘Inspire a Generation’ has been evident throughout and we hope that all of you (children and adults) will share your memories on the board in the hall. The building work is almost complete, only requiring a few finishing touches. The aim is to put down a layer of top soil on the bare earth to enable the children to do some planting. We are also aiming to cover the ‘mound’ of earth on the field with top soil and then seed with grass. Please note that the first ‘Wall of Fame’ assembly will be next Friday – 14th September – at 9.00am. For those parents who are new to the school, the ‘Wall of Fame’ assembly is where we celebrate the achievements of the children throughout the school – it is always an open invite and usually lasts approximately half an hour – we hope to see you there...
RECORDER & PIANO TUITION Piano and recorder lessons, taught by Alice Clarke, are due to re-start on Tuesday 11th September. Recorder lessons (up to 3 children per group) cost £3.50 per week, whilst individual piano lessons are £10 per half an hour or £5 per quarter of an hour. If you would like your child/ren to either start or continue with instrumental lessons, please contact Tracey in the office by the end of this week for further details and so that we can confirm uptake with Mrs Clarke.
LABELS, PLEASE Please could you ensure that all of your child’s clothing is clearly named to ensure that any mislaid clothing can quickly be returned to its owner!
HARVEST FESTIVAL This year’s Harvest Festival will take place in St. Mary’s Church at 9.30am on Monday 24th September. We hope that you are able to join us – further details to follow.
NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ FILM WEEK The school has obtained tickets for all children to see ‘The Lorax’ at Cineworld Bury St. Edmunds on Friday 26th October. This has become something of an Earl Soham tradition with previous visits to see Toy Story 3 and The Zookeeper being rather memorable! This looks like being a tremendous end of half term treat...
PARENTS AS READERS We are always looking for ways in which we can improve the children’s reading skills and confidence. We believe that even the oldest children greatly benefit from being heard by an adult. If you can spare some time during the school day to listen to readers, please contact any member of staff.

PE KIT As described on our school website and in our brochure; we have a simple, practical P.E. kit... White T-shirt (or school Olympic t-shirt), black/navy shorts, white socks, and black plimsolls – we would appreciate your support in ensuring that your child has the appropriate kit in school when required. As we use the school field as often as possible and in all seasons, trainers are also advised. Please ensure that your child changes into and out of trainers for PE sessions and does not wear them to school. Football boots and jogging suits for the winter are optional extras. It is recommended that the children have a warm top available which is not their school sweatshirt/fleece.
