Welcome to the artnorth Spring / Summer Catalogue.

Building on the success of last year we are delighted to introduce our new range of photographic art. This season we have kept in some of our most successful images and most excitingly these have been complemented by a range of new images, techniques and colour work . The new processes section includes some wonderful techniques such as cyanotypes, etchings, digital oils and manipulated images. All of our images are unique to us as we produce them in house. In addition to this we have introduced more frames and finishing options. The company has expanded its operation with a new photographic studio, fullfilment warehouse and investment into the latest digital printing equipment. The cyanotype process, also known as the blueprint process, was first introduced by John Herschel in 1842 and is one of the early forms of capturing images in a print form. Cyanotype is a hand printed process and involves mixing of chemicals to create a light sensitive emulsion. This is then applied to a quality art document paper, a contact negative is then placed next to the coated surface and exposed to sunlight. The result is a beautiful cyan or prussian blue colour with a timeless quality. As a hand made process not any two images from the same negative will be exactly the same.

Etching and engraving Two of the most enduring, and distinctive, printmaking formats are etchings and engravings. Both are "intaglio" (Italian for "cut in"). With research and development we have managed to emulate these processes using digital techniques.

The resulting images are printed onto fine art document paper and then washed over with a natural formula tint to recreate selenium warm tones and etched cool tones. This process uses Archival print techniques with natural finishing products all images are hand finished before framing.
