The Palmolive Building The Palmolive Building is a 37-story Art Deco building designed by renowned architectural firm Holabird & Root. Completed in 1929, it was home to the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet corporation before being renamed the Playboy Building in 1965 when Playboy Enterprises purchased the leasehold of the building to house its editorial and business offices. In 2001, the building was sold to developer Draper and Kramer who, with Booth Hansen Architects, converted it to residential use with upscale office and retail space on the first two levels and more than 90 finely appointed condominium homes; the building’s original name was also restored. The Palmolive Building was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2000 and was added to the federal National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
