INTRODUCING THE AUDI Q2

AN URBAN UTOPIA Rise and shine happy campers! RESORT is back for its third instalment from October 12 to 15. Take a hike through this year’s urban vacation as we travel headfirst into nature’s own utopia – the James Street National Park. RESORT celebrates James Street as a creative hub for fashion, lifestyle, art and design influenced by Queensland’s subtropical climate.

The first-ever Audi Q2 will soon enter the Australian stage. It’s an urban model with sculpted edges, with its own distinctive character derived from entirely new geometrical design elements. It showcases the progressive, yet sophisticated, future design language of Audi. Launching in early 2017, the all-new Q2 stands out

with convenient and intelligent features and sets a new benchmark for in-car technology and connectivity. Available with TFSI petrol or TDI diesel and even quattro all-wheel-drive for confident and dynamic handling, the all-new Q2 is a true Audi and will reimagine the premium compact SUV segment.

EXPERIENCE THE ALL-NEW AUDI Q2 FOR THE FIRST TIME ON JAMES STREET DURING RESORT.

“I am working on a commission for RESORT which consists of three images relating to the 2016 event utilizing product from the stores and from the precinct and trying to create something that from those elements becomes something else entirely and is expressive of a different place and a different environment ellipsis, but also something that connects back to what those items are and what the lifestyle in Brisbane is.”

“We are taking the objects and messing with the way they are created and the materials they are created out of, so taking shoes and sunglasses and necklaces and turning them into anodized aluminum, and bundling them up in a rope, or taking a handbag and making it out of basketball rubber, or a tea cup and making that out of a tennis ball material. Taking things and slightly skewing them so that you look at them with fresh eyes.” “I think my artistic practice has been pretty varied and in some ways a little chaotic. I kind of jump from physical things to virtual things and any permutations therein of those two mediums as well.” Catch Jonathan Zawada (alongside the Romance Was Born creative team) as he appears on the Trailblazers: Power of Creative Collaboration panel. Limited tickets available via JamesSt.com.au/RESORT2016

An installation by Jonathan Zawada Presented by Hutchinson Builders

Night life and culture is a vital part of any thriving and creative community. Blackout in a Glasshouse comments on the positive experiences that can only take place after dark. Highlighting the beauty and fragility of a (night)-culture that should be nurtured and encouraged to flourish. Blackout in a Glasshouse takes the form of a black greenhouse-like structure that references the concept of preventing social interaction and isolating individuals when locking someone out (or in). Inside is a lush landscape of blooming live flowers that exhibit UV qualities when lit with blacklight. Fed with tonic water and illuminated with UV, these fragile blooms are a comment on the beautiful and delicate nature of our nightlife. Installed within the space is a network of CCTV cameras carefully watching and capturing every moment and detail of the fragile installation. This footage will be relayed to monitors throughout the precinct as a further comment on the scrutiny and authoritarian control ever more prevalent on our nightlife.

Jonathan Zawada and his partner Annie, will launch Blackout in a Glasshouse on Thursday 13 October during RESORT AFTER DARK.

Images in this series are an artists interpretation of James Street products. Items may have been altered from their original appearance and may not be a true and accurate representation of the physical product.

Curated by Alison Kubler RESORT is something of a provocation; a unique collusion between art and fashion and music that sets up interesting questions, and perhaps some answers. Is this a tropical paradise? Or a ‘last resort’ with cocktails? The work of the artists gathered for RESORT 2016 is defined by its inherent difference, but gains ‘order’ by virtue of its coexistence for a brief time.

Gail Sorronda: 2 by Lyn and Tony ‘Black Icicle’ neckpiece P.O.A M.A.C: Liptensity lipstick in ‘Gumball’ $40 Optiko: Thom Browne ‘Round Frame’ sunglasses in black $995 Camargue: Dries Van Noten ‘Printed Metallic’ leather pumps $985

Art on James includes the work of Abbey McCulloch, Chris Bennie, Billy Coulthurst, Alice Lang, Sam Cranstoun, and Christian Halford, amongst others and explores multiples ideas across video, sculpture, painting, drawing and photography. RESORT offers art in unexpected places, when you least expect it.

Discover a collaborative showcase of leading artists and fashion traders, integrating art, fashion and design into a combined retail and cultural experience, in stores for the duration of RESORT.
