Memory Café opens in Jamestown by norma b. dennIs FREELANCE WRITER ndworddesign@gmail.com A new café will be opening soon in Jamestown. Unlike most cafés that focus on selling food and drink, this one – called the Memory Café – will be serving a variety of activities that stimulate the mind. Some items on the menu are arts and crafts, music from days past, games and conversation. Patrons best served are people in any stage of dementia and their caregivers. Memory Café will be held at the Oakdale campus of Jamestown United Methodist Church on the third Tuesday of each month from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The meetings are free and open to the public. The first one is Jan. 15, 2019. If the JUMC office is closed due to inclement weather, the meetings will not be held. The Memory Café is a partnership with Senior Resources of Guilford County, which operates

similar cafés in High Point and Greensboro. “People with dementia tend to isolate themselves,” said Laura Gulledge, who along with Vivian Steward is organizing the new venture. “That brings on depression and loneliness which in turn progresses the disease due to a lack of stimulation.” Statics show that one in three seniors will die with some form of dementia and two-thirds of people with the disease are women. “As the population continues to age, we will likely see a progression in these numbers,” said Gulledge, whose mother had Alzheimer’s. In 2014, Gulledge was instrumental in beginning an Alzheimer’s support group, which meets at Jamestown United Methodist Church on the first Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. Steward, whose father had dementia, has also worked with the Alzheimer’s Support Group from the beginning. Those meetings provide

caregivers with encouragement and information about resources to help them better care for loved ones as they progress through the various stages of Alzheimer’s. “Through that and other support groups I saw the need for a stigma-free environment where those dealing with any form of dementia (including Alzheimer’s) could get together and do something,” Gulledge said. “This is an excuse for people with dementia and their caregivers to have fun together, like they did before the disease. We want to have activities that will interest both.” Each month will be somewhat different. Most will include music and an art project. “Music and art are areas of the brain that are impacted later in the dementia process,” Gulledge said. “It has been found that the arts stimulate the immune system, which leads to a healthier Photo by Norma B. Knowing her dad was working on the trusts, Shelley had expressed a desire that part of the profits from the trust be used to aid veterans. It was a natural request. Hughes, a former Jamestown resident who served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, had instilled in both his daughters a strong sense of patriotism. He is a member of several veterans’ groups including the Jamestown Veterans Committee.

For the past few years, he has honored Shelley’s wish by making sure some of the profits from the trust, were used for a cause that directly benefited local veterans. As guests turn into the long driveway leading to Easter’s Promise Therapeutic Equine Center, a large sign that reads “Offering Hope to Weary Hearts” greets them. Easter’s Promise is a small farm located on 40 acres in Pleasant Garden. It houses eight horses, a cow, three pigs, a dog and a variety of cats. “It is basically a private park for veterans and their families,” explained Mary Ann Yow, the center’s founder. “Veterans can come and go whenever they want or feel the need to. Many come and volunteer with the care of the animals, or just to walk the trails, fish in the pond and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. They can bring their families or come alone. “We have 20 veterans who currently visit the farm regularly, including two women.” Easter’s Promise is the recipient of the 2018 profits from Dragonfly Properties, a trust Dana Hughes established for his twin daughters Kelli and Shelley. Five days after he created the trust, Shelley was killed in an automobile accident.

RALEIGH — North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Luis Carlos Castano, 41, of 3908 Lake Meadow Drive, Jamestown. Castano was charged with felony insurance fraud, felony obtaining property by false pretense, and misdemeanor making a false report to a police station. Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Castano of falsely telling State Farm Automobile Insurance Co. that his 2005 Honda was stolen from 412 E. Hill St., Graham, when he had actually hidden the vehicle at 4426 N. Old 52 Road, Pinnacle. According to the arrest warrant, Castano was given a rental car, costing $699.61, as a result of the claim. He also made a false stolen vehicle report to Graham police, the warrant says. The offenses occurred between March 15, 2017, and Aug. 8, 2018. High Point police arrested Castano on Aug. 24 in Guilford County. He was released on a written promise to appear in court. Insurance fraud costs American consumers approximately $80 billion dollars a year. According to Commissioner Causey, fraud costs North Carolinians between 15 and 20 cents of every dollar paid on insurance premiums — and it’s getting worse. “I am determined to stem the tide of insurance fraud in this state in order to save residents money,” said Commissioner Causey. “That’s why I am dedicated to the mission of our NCDOI law enforcement officers who investigate and prosecute claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.” To report suspected fraud, contact the N.C. HAECO tournament tips off Dec. 26-28 by CaroL brooKs FREELANCE WRITER cab1hp@gmail.com It’s the time of year that many of us take time off to visit family. But for the boys and girls on high school basketball teams, this season means holiday tournaments. Two upcoming tournaments after Christmas feature local high schools Ragsdale and Southwest Guilford. Ragsdale will play Dec. 26-28 in the 43rd Annual HAECO Invitational at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center, with the boys’ team seeded No. 2 and the girls’ seeded No. 6. Defending boys’ champion Greensboro Day School (seven consecutive wins) and defending girls’ champion Northwest Guilford (four consecutive wins) are both seeded No. 1. The boys play No. 3 Smith at 4 p.m. Dec. 26. The girls play No. 7 Grimsley at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 26. Game times are approximate and will begin 15 minutes after the previous game. The HAECO Invitational was founded by the Greensboro Sports Council in 1976 as the Little 4 Tournament, an homage to the Big Four Tournament featuring ACC schools Duke, N.C. State, UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest. In 1978, the tournament expanded to eight teams with Ragsdale, High Point Andrews, High Point Central and Thomasville High School joining the original four. In 1979 and ’80, the tournament returned to its original schools before expanding back eight teams permanently in 1981. From the Front What kind of games did the reindeer play? by CaroL brooKs FREELANCE WRITER cab1hp@gmail.com You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen and all the others. But did you know they were bullies? According to the song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” they wouldn’t let Rudolph join in any reindeer games. Guess he showed them, huh? Just what were these games the reindeer loved to play? We, at the Jamestown News, have made an indepth study and believe we’ve come up with some of the most popular ones. We’d like to think these were Olympic-style games, but were probably just what little kids play today, or actually in 1949 when the song was written. Winners in each event would get a gold ornament and extra kibble for a month. The story, “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” was published anonymously in 1823 but later claimed by Clement Clarke Moore. It listed the names of the reindeer that pulled Santa’s sleigh. Can you not envision a contest where one reindeer at a time tries to see just how far he can pull Santa’s sleigh? Yes, it takes eight tiny reindeer – plus one red-nosed one – to pull it Christmas Eve, but you know

the little guys want to see who’s macho enough to do it alone. And since they are flying reindeer, takeoff and landing prowess was certain to have been on the games’ schedule. Anyone who has watched movies or television shows where the reindeer are flying have noticed that they move their legs, as if they were getting a hoof-hold on something in the sky. Therefore, some of the reindeer games had to be gymnastics to build up those thigh and calf muscles. These muscles came into use during the pole vault over the North Pole or Santa’s sleigh. Of course, a candy cane was used as the pole. Oh, and balance beam feats must have been on the schedule so the team would know how to land and stand on rooftops and not fall off. With all the snow at the North Pole, sledding and skating were probably part of the games. Whether the reindeer used actual sleds and skates or just slid on their tummies is not known. Just like some games played today, several of the reindeer games – like ornament rolling – were held with front legs tied behind their backs. Ornaments of all sizes were used, according to the age of reindeer, and

the only rule was to push the ornament with their nose to the finish line. The young reindeer didn’t have antlers yet, but there was probably some attempt at antler butting. Boys will be boys. (We won’t go into the fact that these reindeer were probably girls. That’s another story.) After a strenuous day of activities, there was only one more event to be held – cocoa chugging. It’s a wellknow fact that Blixen was the champ at that. Maybe that is why he’s always mentioned last in the lineup of reindeer that pull the sleigh – he’s too fat from all the cocoa! He also won the contest for how deep you could fall into a snowbank. The reindeer games were not always politically correct. In the early days, when Santa was just a youngster, there was elf tossing, elf tetherball and elf rolling, similar to ornament rolling. The elves didn’t play tetherball, they were the … (ahem). Maybe, like Rudolph, elves in those days weren’t allowed to “join in any reindeer games,” just be the object of them. Good thing times have changed. These days, fruitcakes are tossed instead. Besides, with the population explosion, elves are too busy making the toys to play silly reindeer games.

CONTINUED FROM FRONT Promise from some veterans at the VFW in Archdale,” Hughes said. “I had been looking for a place I felt comfortable giving a donation to help veterans and their families. After meeting Mary Ann and seeing the farm, I knew this was where I wanted the money to go.” Yow got the idea to establish an equine center for veterans in 2012 after seeing a television show about a similar program in Texas. At the time, she only owned three horses, but began to complete the paperwork needed for a non-profit and create a board to run it. “I had been praying for a place to have the center, when a neighbor called and told me the property across the street from me was available. We moved here in March of 2013.” Yow named the center after her first horse, Easter, who had been born on Easter weekend. “As a Christian, I see the promise of hope Easter offers and that is what we offer veterans who come here,” Yow said. Easter is the only animal at the farm that was originally purchased. All the others have been rescued or donated. Volunteers – among the veterans, school groups and others – and private donations sustain the farm and its mission to provide a safe haven for veterans. “We accept no government funding,” Yow said. “The idea for this place came from God and I am not going to do anything that could take him out of the equation.” Two years ago, Douglass joined Yow as the volunteer and event coordinator. She plans several events each year to raise community awareness about the facility. One of them is a PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Awareness Walk, the only one of its kind in North Carolina. “The walk is a fundraiser

claimed to be the author of “A Visit from St. Nicolas.” Donner was called Donder in that story. Some people in Holland say the names were Dunder and Blixem. The Los Angeles Times wrote in 2015, “Snopes. com, the arbiter of online veracity, says the Dutch name is right. So do a lot of other sources. “The Poetry Foundation cites the Random House Book of Poetry for Children, and goes with Donner. “It’s also worth reminding that California could just be avoiding the rather ill-fated Donner moniker, which is indelibly inked into the annals of ill-fated winter travel.” Another website, grammarist.com, states, “Dunder and Blixem were Dutch words for thunder and lightning.” Perhaps Blixem was changed to rhyme with Vixen. Perhaps both spellings were just typos.” Thought.com states, Dunder and blixem! … was a popular expletive among the Dutch-American inhabitants of late 18th- and 19th-century New York. Moore would have been acquainted with these Dutch-Americans. Donder is the correct Dutch spelling of “Dunder.” The website continues, “The answer, apparently, is by way of the New York Times. In a December 23, 1906, reprint of the poem, Times copy editors changed the name of Santa’s seventh reindeer to Donner. Twenty

years later, an article by Times reporter Eunice Fuller Barnard endeavored– albeit somewhat inaccurately– to explain why: ‘Indeed, two of the reindeer were originally given Dutch names, Donder and Blixen (Bliksem), meaning thunder and lightning. It is only modern publishers who have rechristened them with the German Donner and Blitzen.’ “Barnard was surely right about the linguistic logic behind the switch to Donner. With Donner and Blitzen, the poem has a matched pair of German names, instead of one Dutch and one German. Copy editors are sticklers for consistency. Apparently Moore wrote several versions of the poem, using variations on the two reindeer’s names. Johnny Marks settled on Donner and Blitzen when he wrote “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” in 1949 and we have stuck with these versions. So, if the two reindeer were in the Witness Protection Program, their location was a good hiding place – but their names didn’t really change enough to hide their identity. Donner/ Donder even has his own website, www.donder. com. We don’t know what they did to be in the WPP, unless it was part of the bullying of Rudolph. And we don’t want to go into why the creators of “The Office” named their company “Dunder Mifflin.”

that brings awareness to the 22 servicemen/women who commit suicide every day,” Douglass said. “It is estimated that five of the 22 are from North Carolina. On Dec. 22, the farm will once again be open to the public. The event will include a live nativity scene and reading of the Christmas story, along with a hayride and cider. In addition to hosting events at the farm, Yow and Douglass attend various veterans’ resource fairs throughout the year to share information about Easter’s Promise. Douglass also coordinates volunteers at the farm, many who range in age from 3-18. She first found the farm when looking for a place where her own children, who are homeschooled, could volunteer. “But kids must have more than a desire to work with animals,” she said. “They must know what the farm is about. They must be work-

ing for a bigger purpose and understand they do not interact with the veterans unless the veterans initiate it. “The kids learn they can do something for someone who has done so much for them, and they learn work ethics that can be used anywhere.” Moving forward, Yow and Douglass would like to see the number of veterans served at the equine center grow. They also would like to build an indoor riding facility that could be used year round. One of the biggest goals is to help reduce the number of post-military suicides. “I am talking to families who have experienced this to help find out what triggers the suicide and how we can help,” Yow said. “I do know that everyone who comes here leaves relaxed. When they tell me, ‘See you next week,’ I know they are not going to die this week. “I also want to focus on caregivers. They cannot help their loved ones unless given coping mechanisms.” The donation from Dragonfly Properties means rent, food for the animals and help with general maintenance of the farm.

“Funding from donors keeps us alive,” Yow said. “That is important because our simple little farm is making a big difference in the lives of veterans.” Learn more about the facility for veterans at www.easterspromise.com.

dle) joy and happiness. We have seen people who had no interest in crafts in the past, begin to enjoy them.” The organizers of Memory Café hope to engage the community in the activities to keep them interesting. Although discussion of dementia is not the principle focus, participants can share ideas with one another. Developing new friendships can benefit those with dementia, as well as help caregivers avoid burnout. “This is about relationships and interactions,” Gulledge said.

“Our church has been very supportive because they understand the need for something like this in the community. We have been working for about six months to get Memory Café started.” Since the program is new, a phone call or email saying you wish to attend would allow organizers to be prepared. “But if anyone would like to attend at the last minute, they are welcome to do so,” Gulledge said. beginning of literary history and includes a few North Carolinaconnected books in his long list: Thomas Wolfe’s classic, “Look Homeward Angel.” Ann Tyler’s “Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant,” about which famed author Eudora Welty wrote that if she had written its last sentence, “I’d have been happy for the rest of my life.” The late Reynolds Price’s “A Palpable God: Thirty Stories Translated from the Bible with an Essay on the Origins and the life of Narrative.” Greensboro’s Orson Scott Card’s popular science fiction thriller, “Ender’s Game.” Robeson County native Joseph Mitchell’s book about life in New York City, “Up in the Old Hotel.” These books are not for everybody, but each of the 1,000 books listed in “1,000 Books to Read Before You Die” could be a suitable gift for someone. There is, however a very good and safe choice, maybe even perfect choice, that would be a good fit for almost everybody on your list, namely Mustich’s book itself.

With compact, easygoing descriptions of each book and its author, “1,000 Books” is like a trip to a good bookstore or library. With the books arranged alphabetically by author, it opens the possibility for a delightful browsing experience: finding, remembering, and savoring old favorites; passing by other books that don’t interest you; and being surprised by the appeal of books whose titles you have not known before. If you are still waiting to learn

about the right book for your gift giving, here are three more possibilities, both North Carolina connected. First is another book by Nicholas Sparks, “Every Breath.” Like almost all of his books, it is set in coastal North Carolina. But there is a hitch. One of the main characters is from the African country of Zimbabwe. Secondly John Grisham, who has a second home in Chapel Hill, is enjoying the long run of his latest best seller, “The Reckoning” It is, according to USA Today, “Grisham’s argument that he’s not just a boilerplate thriller writer.” Finally, for literary fiction fans, “Cold Mountain” author Charles Frazier’s “Varina” has been enthusiastically reviewed. And then there is always my book, “North Carolina Roadside Eateries,” a perfect gift for any occasion.

Spending soars on gifts for pets by sam maZZotta PAW’S CORNER DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I love buying gifts for my pets at Christmas. My ex-boyfriend, however, says I spend too much money and that my dog and two cats don’t care that they’re getting presents. I still love doing it, though — it makes me happy to see them in a new dog sweater or cat collar or playing with new toys. What do you think? — Craig J., via email DEAR CRAIG: I think you answered the question yourself: It makes you happy to give gifts to your pets. That should be all that matters — as long as you’re not overspend-

ing. Paying the rent or the mortgage is still important. The truth is, Americans are spending more on their pets this holiday than ever before. A new poll by St. Leo University found that, on average, pet owners plan to spend $237 on gifts this season. That’s way up from the same poll done in 2015, when pet owners said they would only spend about $98 on their pets. Why the big uptick in spending? Maybe it’s the

way we increasingly see pets as family members. Maybe we have a little more disposable income this year and want to buy pricier gifts that we wouldn’t have considered for our pets a few years ago. For example, the owner of a store I frequent has a small terrier that wears a different, stylish doggie sweater every day. At any rate, it’s your choice how much to spend on your pets, no matter what others might think. Readers, what New Year’s resolutions will you make for your pet? Let me know at ask@pawscorner.com or on Twitter @ PawsCorner.

Shakespeare famously wrote of the “sceptered isle” of Britain acting as a moat “against the envy of less happier lands.” Lately, the less happier lands are winning in a rout. Britain is suffering a political meltdown as it struggles to make good on a historic vote in 2016 to leave the European Union. The decision for a so-called Brexit was a stirring statement of independence and self-government by a people who have defined themselves down the centuries by their stiff-necked resistance to anyone — whether overweening monarchs or continental tyrants — who would threaten either. That was before London ran up against the bureaucracy of the would-be European super-state based in Brussels, and before it was led, if that’s the right word, by Tory Prime Minister Theresa May. Presiding over a divided party, facing a pro-Remain British establishment and negotiating with a hostile EU, May never had an easy task. She has nonetheless not only failed to rise to the occasion but been crushed by it. She has negotiated abysmally, giving away leverage right at the start when she prematurely invoked Article 50, beginning the process of Britain’s departure with no realistic fallback plan if talks with the EU failed. She ended up with an agreement that would effectively leave Britain within most EU rules, with no means of influencing them anymore. The London Spectator calls the deal “Remainminus.” The larger question is whether once the EU has its hooks in a nation-state, will it ever relinquish it? Its officials have treat-

ed the Brexit negotiations as an opportunity to teach anyone hoping to follow Britain out of the EU a lesson: Don’t dare try to take back the full measure of your sovereignty, lest we make it as miserable for you as possible. This is the Brezhnev doctrine for Eurocrats. When in the past countries in Europe have voted the “wrong” way on fundamental EU questions, as Ireland, France and the Netherlands did over the years, they were ignored or made to vote again until they got the right answer. Britain may yet suffer the same pitiful fate. The European Court of Justice just helpfully ruled that Britain can withdraw its Article 50 notification — in other words, forget this whole unpleasant Brexit vote happened. That’s been the hope of many Remainers in Britain all along, but the case for the EU hasn’t gotten any stronger over the past two years. What does it say about the European project that exit is almost impossible? And if Britain is a political shambles, it’s not as though the most committed advocates of the EU are doing any better. Given the “yellow vest” protests ignited by his idiotic (since delayed) fuel tax, French President Emmanuel Macron can’t even control the streets of Paris on weekends. May’s strategy seems to be to ride the current impasse as close to the March 29 Brexit deadline as possible, and force the adoption of her lamentable deal for lack of any alternative. In which case, to return to Shakespeare, “That England that was wont to conquer others, Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.”

Couch Theatre by amy anderson “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” (PG) — Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) is 10 years old and an orphan, sent to live with his oddball uncle. It’s hard to be the new kid, especially when you live in the creepiest house in the neighborhood. When he’s dared into opening an offlimits section of the house to a schoolfriend, he accidentally wakes the dead, and he, his uncle and the neighborhood witch (a delightful Cate Blanchett as Mrs. Zimmerman) will have to work overtime to clean the clocks of the evil that’s to come. Jack Black is at his most effective in weirdo roles, and he’s simply magical here as Uncle Jonathan Barnavelt, a war-

lock who is the caretaker of this house with a secret. Pull up an enchanted sofa, and enjoy this film with a batch of chocolate chip cookies. “A Simple Favor” (R) — An unlikely friendship is struck between glamorous fashion executive Emily (Blake Lively) and mommy vlogger Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) that takes so many twists and turns that by the end of the movie you’ll be sick to your stomach — and loving it! The two women bond over play dates, so it’s unremarkable when Emily enlists Stephanie as a babysitter. But then she doesn’t turn up and eventually is discovered dead in a lake. There’s intrigue, confession, sex and alternate

Strange But True by Samantha weaver * It was beloved American comedian and film star Groucho Marx who made the following sage observation: “There’s one way to find out if a man is honest — ask him. A gift of faith and food faith becomes even stronger and more abundant the more that you use it. I often hear about people “losing faith.” If you feel like that, all I can say is that lost things often are found in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected times. I’ve misplaced things, thinking that they were lost, only to find them when I was looking for something else. What I thought I’d lost was there all the time, waiting for me to discover it again. Faith is like that, sometimes when you think you’ve reached the end of your ability to believe, something or someone comes along to shore you up so that you can continue. I have great faith in the future and the abilities of the American people to preserve in these difficult times. We must love and speak lovingly about our country. A

by anGeLa sheLF medearIs KITCHEN DIVA My father, Howard, was in the Air Force, and my mother, Angeline, was a homemaker. They didn’t have a lot of money to buy Christmas presents for my three siblings or myself. One thing they did give us is lots of love, great food and faith in God and in the future, no matter how bleak things might look in the present. The Bible says that faith is “a gift of God” ... I believe that. It would take a God to create something as wonderful and as life-sustaining as faith. It takes a great faith to carry on during the troubles we all face day in and day out. The wonderful thing about faith is that the more you use it, the more it grows. Unlike earthly things that become worn and depleted when used time after time,

thing that is not loved will not grow properly. We must have faith in our personal abilities and in our potential as a people in order to grow. While the holidays pose their own special set of personal and financial challenges, they also are a time to appreciate and treasure the priceless things in our lives — love, faith and family. No matter what your circumstances may be, hold on to hope, preserve and cherish your family’s heritage, memories and recipes. And most importantly in these difficult times, keep the faith. While I have wonderful memories of the dishes my mother made for Christmas, this year I’ve decided to start a holiday tradition of my own. I call this recipe Christmas Chicken because it’s a beautiful holiday dish with lots of colorful red tomatoes, white pasta, and green beans and basil. It’s also inexpensive, simple to make and can be doubled to easily feed a crowd. I look forward to sharing it with my family and friends for years to come! Merry Christmas and have a blessed holiday season!

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 3/4 cup flour 8 ounces pasta, like spaghetti, linguine or bucatini 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup olive oil 1 large yellow onion, chopped 1 (28-ounce) can Cento or San Marzano crushed tomatoes 3 cloves garlic, minced 1/8 teaspoon cloves or nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon sugar 1 (15-ounce) can Italian or whole green beans 1 cup fresh basil, cut into ribbons 3/4 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese

CHRISTMAS CHICKEN 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts 2 1/2 tablespoons poultry seasoning 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper

1. Cover the chicken breasts with plastic wrap and pound each piece to an even thickness, about 1 inch in the thickest parts. Remove the plastic and sprinkle each piece of chicken on both sides with 1 tablespoon of

the poultry season, 1/2 teaspoon each of the salt and freshly ground pepper, and 1/8 teaspoon of the cayenne pepper. 2. Add 1/2 tablespoon of the poultry seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper to the flour and mix well. Press the chicken into the flour on both sides, shake off excess and set aside. 3. Make the pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, heat the butter and olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat until sizzling, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the seasoned chicken and pan-fry for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Place the chicken on a plate and set aside. 4. Add the onions to the oil and cook for 2 minutes. Add in the tomatoes, garlic, the remaining poultry seasoning, salt, pepper and cayenne, and the cloves or nutmeg and sugar.

5. Turn heat to simmer, and cook to a sauce-like mixture, about 5-7 minutes. Cut the chicken into strips and add to the sauce. Stir in the drained green beans and half of the basil. 6. Top the drained pasta with the sauce and stir to combine over medium heat, about 1 to 2 minutes. To serve, sprinkle the pasta with the remaining basil and the grated cheese. Serves 4-6.
