Very early Drake Pintail by Larry Zalesky, Vallejo, CA. in excellent original (OP) paint protected under an old coat of varnish, Zalesky was a student of Fresh-Air Dick Janson and his decoys have a strong resemblance to Janson’s work, this decoy is from the notable “HOYT” rig and is so marked, C-1940. —$750. 2. Pair of detailed hand carved Mallards by Allen Lamb in excellent O.P. and cond., every single feather is hand carved over both decoy bodies, they are beautiful! glass eyes, bill carving, 15 inches in length, signed and stamped by the carver, C-1988. —$395. LATE PERIOD Drake American Merganser by Mason Decoy Factory, Detroit, MI., Std, Grade GE Model, in excellent O.P. and cond. with some in-use wear, this decoy was produced post 1920's and was originally attributed to be Hays, however, based on new information, a growing number of collectors (including me) now believe it was actually made by Mason in their closing production years because the paint is much finer than Hays paint and they have spiral dowels, Hays have smooth dowels, from the Somers G. Hadley Rig and so stamped on the bottom, C-1921-1924. —$1,350. 6. RARE Drake Mallard by Live Action Decoy Co., Conway, AR., very little information is known about this company, however, they purchased wood and paper mache decoys from several decoy factories and made modifications to them before they sold them under “Live Action”, this decoy is a PADCO Supreme Grade Drake Mallard that has a metal swinging weight attached to the lower sides and a line attached from the bill to the weight, when the decoy is in the water, the weight moves back and forth pulling on the attached line making the decoy head bob like it was feeding, excellent O.P. and cond., glass eyes, Live Action Decoy stamp on bottom, C-1950. —$165. 23.
