Hello and welcome to Charmark Ranches fourth annual two-year-old Charolais Bull sale!

We invite you to come and take a look at the bulls, anytime at the ranch, or on sale day at Bow Slope Shipping at Brooks. These bulls have been grown out nicely, relying heavily on forage to allow these bulls to express their genetic potential for muscle and frame growth, only relying on energy from grain in the latter part of the feeding period. We believe bulls should be able to develop the required muscle and frame on a high forage diet, all while being able to sire the needed growth attributes for todays’ calves to be successful for our customers. The focus at Charmark has, and continues to be, easy calving, sound feet and legs, and well-muscled genetics. Because of this, we have mixed Full French genetics with our Purebred genetics. This provides a sound base for excellent structural soundness and more than enough muscle. In addition to these French genetics, we have mixed Purebred sires, coming mostly from Effertz Key Ranch in North Dakota, injecting calving ease and doability, to compliment the French influence. We believe the key is mixing the French and Purebred genetics together to get the best of both worlds.

First off, we would like to thank the Marquess family for allowing us the opportunity to work with them on marketing this outstanding offering of French Influenced Charolais Two-Year Old Bulls. If you are looking to add pay weight to your calf crop, be sure to look really close at the bulls featured in this catalogue. They will get the job done, without a doubt. The Charmark program is not new to the Charolais breed. Although on the front of the catalogue it says that it is the 4th Annual Bull Sale, the Charmark program has been selling top quality Charolais bulls for over 40+ years. The program was established in 1971, with many accolades being acquired over the years. They are a renowned Charolais program who are taking steps to get back onto the radar in the breed once again. They are continually adding new genetics to push their program, quality and genetic offerings forward.

In this year’s offering, you will find ranch raised, sound, good footed long yearling and two-year old Charolais bulls that the Charmark program is known for. You will find a customer testimonial in the catalogue that is a true, unbiased testament on how well these bulls work for the ranchers, and how well they work in any environment, going from short grass ranching country to the north country, with harsher weather, bush country and a totally different environment then what they were raised in. This is an honest set of bulls that you will find anywhere. Viewing the Sale Offering

The bulls are available for view at the ranch until March 24th. The bulls will be moved to Bow Slope Shipping in Brooks and available for viewing March 26th, up until sale time.

Sight Unseen Purchase Program

We know that as producers, you may be busy and unable to attend on sale day or tour the bull pen. We can assist you with finding the right bull(s) to meet the needs of your program. Please feel free to Leigh, sale management or any of the staff listed in the catalogue, who would be happy to assist you with finding the right bull(s) for your program requirements.

Wintering & Board

We are willing to take the bulls home and continue to feed them until May 1st. After May 1st, a yardage charge of $5/day will be charged to cover cost of feed. We ask that all bulls returning to Charmark Ranches to be wintered are insured. All bulls returning to Charmark Ranches do so at the Buyer’s Risk.

Insurance

Insurance will be available to purchase on sale day. The animals become your responsibility as soon as sold! We recommend insuring your purchases.

Delivery

Delivery is offered for $75 for distances up to 300 km. In excess of 300 km to be charged at cost.

Semen Rights

Charmark Ranches retains in-herd semen interest on all bulls sold in the sale, at the seller’s expense and owner’s convenience, to be drawn at a future date.

Exchange Rate

For our American friends, the exchange rate will be announced on sale day at the start of the sale.

We retained 340F for our herd bull battery because he is one of the best Pure Power sons to date. 340F has a huge straight back, loads of natural muscle and the bone and foot structure we expect form the Pure Power offspring. Zander was selected for his easy fleshing ability. Zander is a balanced, high-volume bull who we wish was still around here at Charmark. 15G had a true Charolais Herd Bull presence in his front, nice skull design, loose made with a shot of added muscle. 15G had a great foot and left us with some high indexing attractive sons and daughters. We lost 15G last summer due to Injury, the great ones always find a way. 15G is Leptin TT.

Keys Hopper was our choice at the Effertz Key Ranch 2021 bull sale. His great foot was our draw to this Ballyhoo 77D son. 24H has successfully lived up to our expectations, delivering heavy muscled, smooth made, easy keeping offspring. 24H has the look we strive for, large hip and hind quarter, added middle in both length and depth, with a nice smooth shoulder and easy calving head. This has to be one of the easiest moving herd bulls we have ever had the opportunity to walk on our pastures. 24H is Leptin TT.

Customer Testimonial BRAD & NICOLE HEIN & FAMILY

Brad and Nicole Hein & family operate a 4,500-acre ranch near Makwa, SK, about 3 hours north of Saskatoon. The ranch consists mostly of pasture and hay land, with some acres farmed for feed production. They grow corn for fall and winter grazing around the home place, where the cows are moved to before calving.

Their cowherd consists of red Simmental and red/tan Simmental x Charolais based cows. They calve out just under 550 females each year. They begin calving the 1st of March and have wrapped up calving by the end of May.

The bull battery consists of mainly French and French Influenced Charolais bulls. When discussing why they utilize this breed of bulls, it all comes down to what the bulls have to offer. Brad & Nicole appreciate the French and French Influenced Charolais bulls because of the muscling and extra weight they add onto the calves. “When you get paid by the pound, the extra weight on calves certainly helps the pay cheque.” The bulls are turned out the first of June and pulled at the end of August to fit their calving program timeline.

The Heins’ program has been utilizing French and French Influenced Charolais bulls for a number of years now. They were drawn to them because they don’t calve hard. They can use a little higher birthweight bull and not have any issues and the calves grow! They aren’t scared of a bull that has a 110-115 lb birthweight. They acknowledge that you may have to assist the odd one for various reasons, but you also notice that calf in the fall when it is time to sell with the payweight you take to the market.

The Heins’ have been buying bulls from the Charmark Ranches program for about 3 years now. They appreciate the foot structure, muscling and performance that the Charmark bulls have, along with their easy to work with temperament. The bulls adapt well, going from the shortgrass, warmer climate of the south to the harsher environment of trees, brush and colder winter climate of the north. They travel and perform with little issues. If an issue or concern arises, Leigh has stood behind his product.

Terms & Conditions

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or e-transfer payable immediately after the sale. Settlement is in Canadian funds. The right of the property shall not pass until settlement is paid in full. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Current exchange rates will be announced on sale day.

BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer, or special representatives. Bids must be received prior to the sale, in a sufficient time frame.

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block on sale day will take precedence over the printed material. Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected from the auction stand at sale time and such correction will take precedence over printed material in the catalogue.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

IN-HERD SEMEN: Charmark Ranches reserves the right to collect semen on any bull sold through the sale. Semen collection will be at seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience.

BREEDER GUARANTEE: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove that the bull is a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In the case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

INSURANCE: Insurance will be available for purchase on sale day.

DELIVERY: Assistance will be given with making delivery arrangements after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Charmark Ranches, the auctioneer, sale staff, Wright Livestock Marketing Services sale management or Bow Slope Shipping Association assumes no responsibility in the matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of an accident or loss of property.

LIABILITY: BOW SLOPE SHIPPING ASSOCIATION is acting as an agent only in this sale and is not liable in any manner whatsoever for any representations made by the seller. The purchasers must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.
