Welcome to the annual Footprint Farms bull sale. This year marks the 18th year of Footprint Farms selling Charolais bulls. We are proud of the fact that we have been selling bulls for many years and we are excited for the future of selling bulls for many years to come. We truly believe in the extraordinary benefits of using a Charolais bull and a cross breeding program. Years ago my grandfather believed in the benefits of the Charolais breed and passed his beliefs down to my father and myself. Over the years it has become obvious of the benefits of a Charolais bull, and their ability to add pounds to your bottom line is undeniable, no matter if you are cow/calf producer, backgrounder, or finisher. The breed has changed over the years. We’ve seen a conscious effort to lower birth weight, increase calving ease without sacrificing weaning and yearling weights, and overall growth and structure. Using a Charolais bull is not a fad & the market has always demanded Charolais genetics and will so for many years. Please be our guest and join us on March 19th to view our offering in this year’s sale. The sale will begin at 3:30 PM, with the hopes that a later start will allow everyone a little more time to do your chores before rushing off. Again, our sale is a video sale. NO BULLS will be entering the building. We will have the bulls penned right beside the heated building for your viewing. So if for any reason you need to look at the bulls while the sale is on, you simply walk out the door and the bulls will be right there. The spacious pens will allow you to walk around the outside of each pen on three sides, allowing safe viewing for both yourself and the bulls. I would again urge everyone to come early and score every bull. In other words, make a larger list than you normally would just to make sure you are prepared for bulls not entering the building. We value your efforts in attending and want this to be beneficial for yourself, all the while still allowing the bulls to be stress free. As always, if you have any questions about our program or any of the bulls in the sale please give me a call. If for some reason you are unable to attend sale day, please give myself or one of our local sales representatives a call. Let us know the type of bull you’re looking for, the type of cows you are breeding these bulls to, and we will do our best to find a bull that meets your needs. If you cannot attend the sale we encourage you to take advantage of TEAM online services. The bulls can be viewed at home prior to sale day. This will allow you to be able to appraise the bulls at your own pace. Sale morning the bulls will be penned by 12 PM, to allow plenty of time for viewing. We know some of you are calving, so rest assured we run a quick sale which will have you back on the road if need be. Following the sale there will be a barbeque steak supper and fellowship in hopes of showing our appreciation to the buyers and bidders. As always I look forward to visiting with everyone on sale day. REFERENCE SIRES
Reference Sire - King
King was our home raised calving ease specialist. We used King for many years, until he was too big to physically breed young heifers naturally. Since then we have utilized his genetics through AI. We have bred him on a variety of heifers including commercial Simmental Red Angus cross with little to no problems. If you are looking for ease of calving, look the sons of Footprints King. He is tried and true.

Signature is a bull I selected out of the famous Lindskov- Theil herd in South Dakota. I was searching for a bull with not only calving ease, but a bull who would increase weaning and yearling weights. When I first laid eyes on this guy, I immediately was taken with how quiet, and easy to handle he was. I loved his depth, width and overall muscle, along with his easy moving stride. Once I found his picture perfect dam I knew I had to own him. He still has a great big foot under him, and is maturing into a very large bull. This is Signature’s second set of sons to sell and they do not disappoint.

Reference Sire - HRJ Crowd Favourite 515C
Crowd Favourite has again produced some very high end herdsire prospects. All his sons are quiet and easy going. They are bulls who gain well, plus suit a wide range of producers needs, whether you sell in the fall, or background your calves, his sons have lots of grow and great ADGs.
Reference Sire - SVY Marksman 436B
Marksman is the senior statesmen of our herd bull battery & he has done another great job for us. He is a breeding machine & he continues to see heavy use here with high conception rates. Whether he is producing sons or daughters they always seem to be some of our best. Marksman will add hair and pounds to his offspring, along with keeping them moderate and fuctional. His daughters will carry on his presence in our herd for years to come.

REFERENCE SIRES
Reference Sire - SVY Blitz 125Y
Blitz is a true power house of genetics. Take a look at his EPDs they are perfomance all the way. He added long shaggy hair to all his offspring. I wish we could have had a couple more years of Blitz, but time marches on, this will be the last year for any Blitz sons. Some of our high selling bulls were sired by Blitz and for good reason, because they flat out worked! In one cross his sons easily added pounds to their offspring.
Reference Sire - MAIN Lone Ranger 13D

Lone Ranger is our only red factor herd sire. He is homo polled and homo red. I always liked his sire and felt Lone Ranger would mirror his father. I liked him and his mother so much I bought them both. His mother is still here producing year in and year out. The Lone Ranger sons will not only offer you color but they will stretch out your calves as he is as long as you can find. He has a big hip and a wide top with great feet!

Reference Sire - LT Del Rey 6161 P
Del Rey was selected out of the Lindskov-Theil herd the same year as I selected Signature. I wanted to find a bull to breed our heifers to and who would carry on the calving ease side of our program the way Footprints King had. Not only has Del Rey been a calving ease sire, his offspring have lots of vigour and get up and go. We have been forunate to market semen on Del Rey to other purebred breeders, and have had many of them reorder once they have witnessed first hand the success with his calving abilities. His sons and daughters have both found their way into the keeper pens, showing us he is more than just a calving ease bull.
Reference Sire - Cedardale Zeal 125Z
Zeal is a calving ease bull who we utilized his genetics through AI. They will offer a little more punch of performance than a King or Del Rey sired calf will & they have lots of hair. Both of his sons in this years sale are homo polled.

Reference Sire - SVY Grizzly PLD 521C
This is Grizzly’s second year of bulls sired by him here at Footprint. I love the hair and docility he throws in all his progeny. Grizzly sired sons will fit a wide range of needs of the commercial cattlemen. They have the ability to have moderate birth weights, but really push down the scales at weaning time and at yearling weigh in. I bought Grizz because I felt he would be a great option for guys wanting a little more calf than what they would get from a heifer bull type. I am really excited with Grizzly’s addition to our bull battery and expect great things from both his sons and daughters.

Mayhem sons will add performance and lots of hair to your calf crop. There isn’t many of his sons in this years sale but expect more in the years to come. Sired by Sparrows Escobar you can expect great things from these bulls in terms of performance & being functional.

Disposition Scoring System 1. These bulls have been eliminated from the program. They are not easily handled. 2. Harder to handle with a wide flight zone. These bulls will get worked up very easily when alone or under pressure. 3. Most of the bulls fit into this score. 3’s are very easy to handle but will move off pressure with ease. 4. These bulls are extremely quiet and will take a lot of pressure.
YEARLING BULLS
I have to decided to move away from adding footnotes to each bull. I found it increasingly difficult each year to come up with new ways to say the same thing over and over. Most of the bulls are very similar in their over all makeup. With many of the bulls being brothers in reality they should look the same. This year I wanted to focus more on hard data such as weighing the bulls more and offering a ADG, as well as offering a disposition score on all the bulls. This should be more beneficial in aiding selection. I urge you to come to the bull pen ahead of the sale and take your time in your selection process. As always I will give you my honest opinion of my bulls. I take great pride in helping you select your next herd sire. I not only want to sell you a bull, but my goal is that selling you the RIGHT bull will lead to future purchases.

YEARLING BULLS
For anyone new to our operation, we run two totally separate cowherds. One herd calves in January and February, producing our yearling bulls, while the other calves in April and May producing the two-year-old bulls. We feel we are unique in this approach in terms of offering two options to you, the buyer. None of our bulls have been previously offered for sale – which means we don’t hold over a yearling bull that didn’t sell for whatever reason to try and sell him to you as a two-year-old. The yearling bulls are weaned in early fall and fed a high fiber based TMR ration. The two-year-old bulls stay out grazing as long as the grass will hold, and are then fed a high fiber TMR ration as well. Owen Severson of Landmark Feeds formulates my rations, with slow, healthy growth of maturity at the forefront. A high fiber based TMR ration helps ensure that these bulls have been developed to last while out in the breeding pastures, and for many years to come.

Graham Schetzsle (403) 575-4001 Graham is no stranger to East Central Alberta beef industry. Born and raised in Veteran Alberta, the Schetzsle’s roots run deep. Graham not only grew up around the local auction mart, he has owned and operated the auction mart in Veteran.

Lowell Johnson has worked for many years in the beef industry. Not only raising top end Charolais feeder calves but order buying various types of cattle and working closely with his clients.
Colin McNiven (403) 793-1699 Colin is born and raised in the Cessford area. He along with his family operate a large cow herd. For the last few years we have marketed some of our Charolais cross calves through Colin. Colin sees first hand how our genetics work for the commercial cattleman.

Our Goals My goal remains the same as always - to raise bulls that are born with moderate birth weights, and that will gain without the use of creep, only their mother’s milk and grass. I don’t believe in masking a lack of performance by supplementing them with creep feed. I want cattle that have bred-in performance. Our cows have to be maintenance and hassle free, as we simply don’t have the manpower, or the time for that matter, to babysit cows. All of our bulls are on a full herd health program and will be semen tested prior to the sale.

TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance to the sale with the owner or Sales Manager. Bidding: Each animal is to be sold to the highest bidder. No by-bidding will be permitted. A reasonable price base may be set. Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. Announcements: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the auction stand at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Certificate of registry: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyers for each animal after settlement has been made. Breeders Guarantee, bulls: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six months following date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6) six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time. Exception guarantee: In cases where the animal was subjected to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. Settlement: Transportation charges on animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. Mail or telephone bids: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer, or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Rights and obligatations: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall continue a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
