FERTILITY: All bulls sell as guaranteed breeders. The 2yr old bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam and trich test, all paperwork will be available on sale day. The yearling bulls are guaranteed to pass a breeding soundness exam prior to pickup/delivery or no later than June 1st in the year of purchase. In the event of infertility, a replacement will be made available, or future sale credit will be offered in the amount of the purchase price minus salvage value. INSURANCE: Aside from infertility, all other guarantees will be made through insurance only. For any customers that choose to insure their bulls on sale day, Frank Cattle & Genetics will pay 50% of the policy premium. For further questions regarding these policies Jim can be reached at (970)590-0500 HEALTH: Herd health is among our top priorities, we work closely with Dr. Tharp at the Holyoke Veterinarian Clinic to insure our vaccination protocols are always up to date. All lots in the sale have been tested free of BVD and will be picked up/delivered with a clean bill of health. DNA: To most accurately represent the cattle in the offering, each lot has been parent verified and tested free of genetic defects within their respective breed unless noted otherwise. Additionally, all bulls offer genomically enhanced EPD’s through Angus GS on the Angus Bulls and GeneSeek GGP on the Red Angus bulls to improve the accuracy of their performance predictors. DELIVERY: Bulls will be wintered free of charge at our grow yard located in Lodgepole, NE until April 1st. All bulls will be delivered free of charge within 400 miles of that location. We ask that all females be picked up or delivery arrangements be made within 2 days of the sale. SEMEN INTEREST: Frank Cattle & Genetics will be selling full possession and salvage value on all bulls in the offering, but reserves the right to 1/3 semen interest. On Behalf of our entire family, I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to appraise our 2024 offering. The support we receive from our friends, neighbors, and customers is truly humbling. As always, a new crop of bulls brings a new sense of anticipation as we look forward to the next season in this business. In my short seedstock career, I’ve learned that with enough stubbornness our optimism will be rewarded! The fall of 2023 recorded some of the highest prices we have experienced in this industry. Albeit long overdue, it’s nice to finally see things come to fruition for so many that have stayed the course and quite literally weathered the storms. As we continue to progress and grow our business, we feel that we are improving the genetic merit of our herd in each crop. These bulls represent the type of cattle that are bred to thrive in our western environment, with the feet and leg structure required to cover big country. Not only do we have a heavy selection pressure for hoof quality, but we try to breed our cattle moderate in their frame size while keeping pace with industry demands for weaning, and post weaning performance. We pride ourselves in offering cattle that have “Maternal Performance that Pays”. I could talk about our breeding philosophies and beef cattle genetics for days, but that’s not the heart of our business. Family is the reason we choose to do what we do, there is no better way to make a life. As we are faced with many obstacles that out of our control, we wouldn’t trade anything for having the opportunity to work alongside both Kendra and I’s families. Outside of our immediate family, its fulfilling to work with so many other people that are also raising their young families on farms and ranches across rural America. Although we may be a shrinking community, our role in feeding the world is more vital than ever. We lost our 4023 donor in an accident last spring. With that being said, the bulls on this year’s sale will be the last opportunity to purchase her genetics. The good news is that she saved her best for last. This Rainfall son is a stud from every angle you study him, he’s wide chested, masculine, and put together perfect on his feet and legs. My favorite part of this bull is the beautiful sisters he has in the replacement pen. This bull’s full brother sold as lot 2 in our 2022 sale to the Sullivan Ranch of Douglas WY. This cow just stamps them all nearly identical year after year. You can count on her to make them stout and good looking! With this kind of genetic consistency, you will want to keep every daughter of his. A good footed long aged bull with a strong maternal pedigree. The Blackbird 359 cow has been a tremendous producer for us. She’s the mother of our 501 donor that helped us get our start in the business and is now owned by Kris Young in Idaho.

American Angus Association $Value Indexes

Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), an index expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning. $M is built off of a self-replacing herd model where commercial cattlemen replace 25% of their breeding females in the first generation and 20% in subsequent generations. Remaining cull females and all male progeny are sold as feeder calves. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production. Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index expressed in dollars per head, provides the expected difference in future progeny preweaning performance from birth to weaning. $W assumes that producers retain 20% of their female progeny for replacements and sell the rest of their cull female and male progeny as feeder calves. Over time, increased selection pressure on $W will increase weaning and maternal milk traits while also continuing to increase mature cow size.

Feedlot Value ($F), an index expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. The underlying objective assumes commercial producers will retain ownership of cattle through the feedlot phase and sell fed cattle on a carcass weight basis with no considerations of premiums or discounts for quality and yield grade. Dollar value indexes, or $Values, are a tool used to select for several traits at once based on a specific breeding objective. An economic index approach takes into account genetic and economic values as well as the relationships between traits to select for profit.

Beef Value ($B), an index expressed in dollars per carcass, facilitates simultaneous multi-trait genetic selection for feedlot and carcass merit. $B represents the expected average differences in the progeny post-weaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase and market these animals on a quality-based carcass grid. Combined Value ($C), an index expressed in dollars per head, includes all traits that make up both $M and $B with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and eventually sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid.

Research Validates Red Angus as Most-Favored Female Ranchers across the country have long recognized the value of Red Angus females as the foundation of a profitable cowherd. Now, independent research validates those years of cattle production experience with tangible data proving the Red Angus heifer’s worth. Research Confirmation Esther McCabe, et al., of Kansas State University, led a study that conrmed Red Angus are the most-favored female in the industry. McCabe and her team compiled ve years’ worth of pricing data from Superior Livestock Auction, comparing 13,804 lots of heifer calves totaling over 1.2 million head that sold in 116 video auctions.

Rancher Trusted While market research validates the price advantage of Red Angus heifers, ranchers have tested and trusted her worth on the range for years. Red Angus females are desirable as replacement heifers because they mature into productive mother cows that reward producers with extra dollars in their pockets on sale day.

The research team evaluated the effects of independent variables on the sale price of heifer calves that fell into six different breed composition groups: English, English crosses, English-Continental crosses, Black Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, Red Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, and Brahmaninuenced.

Red Angus cows have gained ranchers’ trust as a complete package through fertility, eshing ability, good disposition, longevity and excellent overall production. They produce feeder calves that earn premiums in the yard and on the rail through docility, feed efciency, conversion and carcass merit.

They deduced that Red Angus-sired heifer calves bring $5 to $9 more per hundredweight than all other breed types.

Each year we like to offer a group of select females in conjunction with the bull sale. This is a really nice set of mature cows right from the heart of our herd. They have earned their keep at our place, including several sons of these females selling in the sale. These cows simply just didn’t settle A.I and are due to calve a little later. These cows are expected to calve in March and April and the resulting calves will be registerable, DNA will need to be taken to determine the sire of the calves.

Driving the science of better breeding There’s little room for error in the cattle business. Producers need the most advanced information to make smart selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs). GE-EPDs have become the industry standard for herd improvement, building on decades of science-backed genetic evaluation tools originated and maintained through the American Angus Association®, home to the largest and ever-growing single-breed beef cattle database. EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs that provide: Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced accuracy of EPDs Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits (such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency) The ability to make more rapid progress for traits that are important to you, due to: · more accurate selection · easier identification of genetic outliers · the ability to propagate young animals with confidence earlier in their lives In fact, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they have recorded an average of 15 progeny, depending on the trait.
