Welcome to Function and Finesse 5.0 and thank you for your ongoing support and interest in this event! We are thrilled to present this fifth set of outstanding Gelbvieh genetics for your appraisal. A year ago, our breed celebrated 50 years in Canada. We believe this offering will set us in the right direction for the next 50!
When we began Function and Finesse in 2019 we never dreamt it would become what it is today. We are honoured this event has become a trusted source for high quality Gelbvieh females by both established breeders and young producers alike. Through countless miles traveled and visits with fellow Gelbvieh enthusiasts, we work hard to assemble an offering to fit where the industry is headed. If we focus on where we are right now then we have fallen behind.
As always, we must give thanks to the group of people who make this event possible. Some of our most trusted and closest friends in the industry allow us to come into their programs to select females and then manage them to the best of our ability. We are excited and proud to welcome Braylen Blake Gelbvieh to the team this year. Braylen represents so many of the characteristics we believe will move this breed forward.
The entire offering has been managed here at Twin View since late July allowing us to present you with a consistently prepared set. This makes your selection process much easier without sorting through a variety of presentation methods. The cattle are often out grazing to meet their needs. It is possible to buy elite quality, practical and common-sense cattle in this breed and we believe they are here at Function and Finesse.
A new addition to the catalog this year is something we are very proud of. You’ll notice the Function and Finesse Full Circle logo on many lots. These are daughters or granddaughters of previous sale lots. Further proof these cattle are doing what they were intended to do!
We remain dedicated to the most modern practices and each lot is presented with the most in-depth DNA profile possible including parentage verification, polled and colour testing as well as a 100K profile in most cases. We encourage you to follow updates available through the CGA registry for current EPDs.
We would be honoured to visit with you before the sale and welcome you to Twin View anytime. First and foremost, this is a people business so we hope you can join us for a bite to eat, a cup of coffee or perhaps something stronger. We can’t wait to see you on Friday, October 13! Function and Finesse is one of a kind. It is a celebration of our breed’s leading ladies. Be sure to bring the leading ladies of your program along for our hospitality!

BBG EV
The greatest asset of the cattle industry is its people and people are the foundation of Function and Finesse. JSJ Livestock has been a part of this family since day one so it is with mixed emotions that we join them in saying farewell as they prepare for their upcoming dispersal sale on December 8 in Hartney, Manitoba.
JSJ Livestock began in 2007 after James and Shayla visited Agribition the previous year. They each came from commercial cattle backgrounds but were quickly won over by the Gelbvieh breed. Together with their kids Ethan, Aidan and Louelle, they purchased their first purebred females from the DTJ dispersal. They also purchased a package of females from the Gofflat herd as they dispersed.
James and Shayla have both been tireless promoters and volunteers in the breed. They’ve each spent time on boards and volunteered to create events such as Brandon Ag Ex. James has served as President of the Canadian Gelbvieh Association.
We know the decision to disperse the purebred cattle was not an easy one. With the kids taking on their own ventures in life and James and Shayla both loving their professional work, they wisely wanted to be sure the cowherd didn’t suffer because of all they had on the go.
Quite simply, these are outstanding people. Time spent with the Jaspers is never spent, it is invested. We can’t tell you how many hours we’ve spent on the front porch or in the truck touring cows or at the dining room table into the early morning hours with James and Shayla. We learned to tour cows as soon as we arrived because if you waited until morning there’s almost a guarantee you wouldn’t feel up to bouncing through pastures and most certainly not want to get the gates. They are generous, hardworking and authentic. The Jasper family have been integral parts of the Gelbvieh breed, this sale and our lives here at Twin View.
James, Shayla, Ethan, Aidan and Louelle - It’s not goodbye. It’s see you soon!

We’re kicking off Function and Finesse 5.0 with one of the most unique lots we’ve ever offered! This lot has created more discussion and debate here than any other. For us, some of the aspects we value most in our program are cow families and our embryo work. Lot 1 combines both in the biggest way possible!
For the first time ever, we’re offering privilege and choice in the Gracie Gayle cow family! The family originated with Gayle 32N who was an extremely prolific polled fullblood donor cow. A daughter, Gayle 48Z, became the 2015 National Champion Female. Next came the widely admired, Gayle 78E, who followed suit and became National Champion in 2019. This mother cow remains a farm favourite. She raised Gracie Gayle 74H who topped Function and Finesse 3.0 to Macdonell Farms, was Champion Female at Farmfair and is the mother of lots 1B and 1C. She then produced Gracie Gayle 118J who went undefeated in her division as both a heifer calf and a bred and is the dam of lot 1A. Four generations of Gayle cows have been influential donors and champions here at Twin View! Lot 1 will be the fifth.
2023 gave us 7 heifer calves to carry the Gracie Gayle name. We narrowed those down to the top three. Lots 1B and 1C are the first opportunities to access our newest herd sire, JEN Bar None. He was the perfect complement to our many Boxer daughters. His sons highlight our bull pen already and his daughters are jaw dropping! This pair of heifers have been standouts from day one with added style, dark colour, volume, presence and dimension. Lot 1A is a direct daughter of the great Grizzly Red whose daughters are proving to be big time production mother cows. She is big bodied and exudes such power from every angle.
All three will be members of our show string this fall. We’d be happy to help campaign the selected female if the new owner wishes. We are also going to maintain the right to one future flush on the selected female at our expense. The future is now and it’s here at Function and Finesse!
THE FUNCTION AND FINESSE FUTURITY SCHOLARSHIP
Excitement for Gelbvieh cattle is growing and we are so excited to see so many young people taking an interest in the breed! The Junior Gelbvieh Show this summer was a great example of how bright our future is. As always, the Function and Finesse group supports any junior member interested in being a part of this breed and we are excited to continue The Function and Finesse Futurity!
Females of any age purchased through Function and Finesse are eligible. Females out of past Function and Finesse purchases are also eligible. All females must be shown by 4-H or Junior members 21 years of age and under and owned by the junior member or their immediate family. You can earn points at any event you attend.
Points can be earned each time an animal is shown from October 15, 2023 - October 1, 2024. Points are awarded as follows:
• 5 points each time you show
• 2 points if you win your class
• 1 point if you send us a picture
Any animals shown at the Canadian Junior Gelbvieh Show in Stettler next summer will receive double the points for that event only.
The winner will be announced prior to Function and Finesse 6.0 and will receive $1000 in scholarship towards post secondary work. Good luck and get showing!

BBG Annabelle 47L is the first Function and Finesse entry from Braylen Blake Gelbvieh and she is a truly special breeding piece. It’s fitting to have this heifer here since her mother was the female who introduced us to Braylen and the Blake family. Braylen purchased her mother from us through the Agribition sale after she was named Champion Balancer Female. She has gone on to produce way beyond herself. Last year at Agribition, a full sister to Annabelle was National Champion Balancer Female and her full brother was Reserve National Champion Balancer Bull. Annabelle is a direct daughter of The Boxer and is just as sweet as can be. She has the look of an awesome future mother cow and we have no doubt that’s exactly what she’ll be!

JLSL Ledgerwood Libby 360L is a homozygous polled stunner who had us excited the moment she stepped off the trailer. She’s long bodied, sound, flashy and has the look of an easy doing mother cow with loads of potential. Her sire is a bull named True Grit who is off the Phoenix donor. Phoenix is an anchor in the Ledgerwood program. A bull named Time Traveler also comes up in Libby’s pedigree twice and if you talk with Samee there is no single animal who impacted her herd in a larger way. The bulk of her cowherd traces back to Time. Libby has had two maternal brothers go through the bull sale and a maternal sister in the herd. Libby is bred to work no matter how you choose to use her and we anticipate big things in her future!

Diamond Z purchased Love Struck’s mother privately and she’s been doing a consistent job for them. They also have a maternal sister in the herd. Her grandmother, 171D, now resides at Overby Stock Farm. Love Struck is sired by Bonanza who has done a great job for both Zalinkos and us. We really love our Bonanza daughters and have no doubt you’ll be hearing more about their ability as mother cows in the coming years. Luna is off Easy Rider and out of a two-year-old Rush Hour daughter. Rush Hour is the bull that instigated our friendship with Pete and Samee. Not only did he do a nice job on their cowherd but he made us some pretty damn good friends! Easy Rider daughters are making a name for themselves and there are very few of them outside of the Ledgerwood program. Luna won’t be the biggest, highest performing female come sale day but we have know doubt she’ll be easy to find with her good looks and catchy attitude!

LML Flo 2L is the latest installment from the team at Last Mountain. Year after year we are awestruck by the quality that walks their pastures particularly the Boxer daughters and Flo’s mother is one of the great ones. She is so special that we seriously debated having her as a part of the offering here as a feature donor quality female. She has proven to be a female maker with three maternal sisters walking at Last Mountain. Great females are no accident. The best ones get where they are with great ones behind them. LML Flo 2L certainly has a solid backing!
Flo 2L is extremely striking from every angle, superbly sound and fluid on the move and snappy enough to be sure she grabs your attention every time. She’s long bodied, big ribbed, liver red and certainly has the quality to be considered for no matter what challenge you can throw her way. She is a 3/4 sister to lot 6 being sired by Goodview Headline and out of a Boxer daughter. Faye had a full brother a year ago that certainly commanded a second look and was one of the first bulls selected in their private treaty offering. She is stretchy and attractive and has the look of an ideal mother cow with her jampacked maternal pedigree. LML Faye 9L is easy to find in the pen and will be a wise investment indeed!

Twin View Gypsy 51L is a beautifully designed, elegant, dark red sweetheart! We think enough of Gypsy to have made her a candidate for our show string this fall. The Gypsy family is one of our oldest cow families and they consistently get the job done. The matriarch produced until she was well into her teens and became a 3-time Dam of Distinction. Gypsy 51L’s mother is a young Boxer daughter who is a prime example of why we would be okay if every cow in the breed was a Boxer daughter. They are simply elite mother cows. Combined with the maternal power in Bar None, Twin View Gypsy 51L is a maternal masterpiece ready to add to your collection.

JOE LIVES IN CANADA 333L
JOE Lives in Canada 333L is another Function and Finesse success story. Joe and Brenda bought her dam a year ago from the Ledgerwood program and that young mother cow has already outdone herself! This beauty stopped us cold with her sassy presence, massive top and sweeping rib design. If it’s an outcross pedigree you’re after then take a close look here. 333L is unrelated to almost the entire Canadian purebred herd giving you limitless mating potential. Her sire is a son of the popular Franchise bull and her pedigree has some of the most influential cattle in the Ledgerwood herd. EPDs? She’s WAY above average in EVERY trait! There was a beer commercial in the late 90’s where a guy walks out and proclaims, “My name is Joe and I am Canadian!” Here is the bovine version of that guy. JOE Lives in Canada!

Twin View Rosemary 94L is a young female with an incredible side profile characteristic of the High Caliber cattle. She was mothered by a two-year-old Grizzly Red daughter who hit the mark her first time out the gate. 94L boasts a weaning ratio of 109 and is backed by a massive EPD profile from one end to the other. This is a lesser known cow family that originated with a flush on one of our favourite Twin Bridge cows. Rosemary’s grandmother is the root of this family and is just an F model, so we expect you’ll be hearing more about them over time. These cows seem to get better every day and we fully expect this beauty to do the same!

JSJ Lola 3L will be the final heifer calf ever offered by JSJ Livestock here at Function and Finesse. There’s nothing like going out in style! Lola is so balanced in her look, deep flanked, hairy and well put together. Her mother is a long bodied two-year-old cow you may recognize if you were at Agribition last year. Josephine was a part of the JSJ show string and has done a great job on her first effort. This cow family is one to note. A maternal sister to Lola’s dam was a true feature in the first sale to Fir River Livestock. She has also had two maternal brothers who sold through the JSJ sale. Lola offers an outcross pedigree on the top side and traces back to Baha on the bottom. As the song goes, Lola could be a showgirl!

If you’ve been following Function and Finesse you already know so much about ZAL Natalie’s Love At First Sight 46L ET! Her dam is no stranger to the breed and this event. Natalie sold in the second sale to the Zalinko family after leaving an indelible mark on our program here at Twin View. Natalie has truly done it all. She’s consistently produced huge quality with multiple show winners, big time production value and massive flush results. Natalie now has 40 registered progeny with many working in purebred operations. Among the most notable is Mayweather who has exceeded all expectations as a breeding bull.
Love At First Sight is sired by the popular Apollo bull whose semen has been in high demand. This mating has clicked before. 46L’s full sister was an Agribition Senior Calf Division winner purchased here in 2021 by Braylen Blake. Love At First Sight has already proven true to her name. When we saw her for the first time, it truly was Love At First Sight and we have no doubt she’ll have the same impact on you!

JSJ Kacey 49K is an easy doing and good looking fall born female! She is sired by a son of JSJ Elite, a sire who did a great job at both JSJ and Fladelands. Her mother is a beautiful female who has consistently produced high quality including a son through the bull sale and a maternal sister in the JSJ herd. She is exactly the cow in the picture with a rockstar udder and gorgeous breed character. The popularity of the fall born cattle at JSJ was proven last year when their first fall barn female offered for sale caused a stir. There’s no doubt you’ve heard of her sire, Pop A Top! Some could argue he is one of the best known and most influential bulls in the breed. Goodview Maureen 234K is no stranger to Gelbvieh enthusiasts and she’s already hung a National banner in the barn. She was the Reserve National Champion Heifer Calf last fall and she’s only gotten better! She’s a homo polled, maternal masterpiece with so much style and brood cow look about her. She is bold in her construction and explosive in her muscle pattern and yet maintains an appealing look about her. No matter which angle you choose to analyze her from, she hits the mark every time!
234K’s mother is a direct daughter of the Goodview matriarch, Brook Maureen 107M and past National Champion, SLC Outback 142X. Her maternal sister had heads turning and started off Function and Finesse 4.0 a year ago to RPS and Rocking Arrow. She’s also had two maternal brothers sell and a third on the ground this year. The capability of the Maureen females is second to none when it comes to production value. They are flat awesome! This is an absolute donor quality female on the verge of writing her own page of Gelbvieh history!

Twin View Baha 4K is a moderate, stout made mama cow in the making! Much like Natalie, it wouldn’t be Function and Finesse without a Baha. Twin View Baha 4K is stamped so consistently like the many Baha females before her. They are high performing, heavy muscled cattle and 4K is no different. She is a Grizzly Red daughter mothered by a flushmate to both Valhalla who has worked so well here and Viking who is incredibly impressive at Diamond Z. 4K was born a twin to another heifer calf who will stay in our replacement pen. We clearly hadn’t checked on breeding data before moving her to the sale pen because we said no more Crowfoot would leave the farm. Our loss is your gain! This should be exciting!

His daughters are holding their own too including one who was the Reserve National Champion Female and the selected Sweetheart Champion at Agribition last fall! This mating should really click with the added power of Valhalla and the ease of Touchdown. Go ahead and mark Twin View Gypsy 63K as a hard working future mama who’s sure to be user friendly and consistent!

Twin View Sungold 64K ranks among the sunniest personalities in the whole deal! She’s also the largest scaled female in the offering from top to bottom and she’s longer than a freight train. She is the result of two black parents so she is a non-dilutor offering broader mating options. The Valhalla sons were extremely well received by our customers this spring for their boldness of design and true beef bull character. Sungold 64K was raised by a beautiful black mama cow who boasts a weaning ratio of 102 on six progeny and became a Dam of Merit in 2022. A maternal sister to 64K sold last year to Diamond Acre Farm. If you’re in the business of raising cattle by the pound let Twin View Sungold 64K go to work and get you the pay weight you’re after!

AWB TWIN VIEW LOVEBUG 34K
Twin View Lovebug 34K is a Mayweather daughter we think the world of. Typical of the Mayweather cattle, she is moderate and soft made with a sweeping middle third and the look of a mother cow. She is a Function and Finesse Full Circle female. Her mother was purchased in dam when we bought the beautiful Lovebug 17A a few years ago from Goodview. Lovebug 34K has a balanced EPD profile capped off with a big time marbling number. Her mating to High Caliber will come easy and take off. We can’t say enough about the job Mayweather daughters are doing. Udders are high and tight, with tiny teats but man do they produce! Twin View Lovebug 34K will have all sorts of friends come sale day!

Her mother is a beautiful Diplomat daughter who came out of the first sale from Goodview. A maternal sister to that mother cow is a past Sweetheart Champion at Agribition. Just like her mama, 120K is wide pinned, has a real brood cow look about her and is setting down a picture perfect udder! ENUINE A KEEPER 35K
KCC Genuine A Keeper 35K was one of the first bred heifers we saw on our tour at Ness’ and we kept circling back to her. She’s long bodied and big ribbed and is the carbon copy of her mother who was purchased through the Wishlist from Brittain Farms. She is sired by The Heat Is On who did such a consistent job of adding extra depth, softness and dimension during his time at Keriness. More importantly his daughters are developing into really maternal mother cows with nice udders. Genuine A Keeper 35K is due early to JNA Gung Ho whose first calves look great at Keriness.

KCC Undefined 1K is an absolute landshark of a female! If you like moderate, stout made, big boned ladies then your search could end right here. A daughter of Heat Is On, Undefined 1K is broody, big bodied and chalked so full of breed character. Her dam had a long history of getting the job done in the Ness herd before aging out. She was a four time Dam of Merit and three time Dam of Distinction ranking her among some of the hardest working and longest lasting ladies in the breed. Longevity is often undervalued in the beef industry and the trait is bred in here. Undefined 1K is due early to the Gung Ho bull which should be an ideal compliment.

Goodview Maureen 243K is another homo polled sweetheart from the Bentz family in a slightly larger scaled package. She offers all the same great maternal traits you’ve come to expect with overall softness and eye appeal. 243K is extremely closely related to the great female in lot 16. She is also sired by Hitch and her granddam is a full sister to the mother of lot 16. Stacking awesome females builds genetic consistency and this pedigree certainly has that! A maternal sister was a previous Function and Finesse feature in 2020 to Triple S, another sold to Parker Mann and a third is working at Goodview. Goodview Winnie 233K is a Hitch daughter we were tripping over ourselves to get at a year ago when we first saw her alongside her mama. Last Mountain Livestock selected her maternal sister who sold in 4.0 and, quite honestly, it’s a footnote we could almost cut and paste. The consistency of this cow family is no fluke! Winnie females excel at Goodview consistently putting top end bulls through their bull sale and daughters into the herd. Like her sister, Winnie 233K is so attractive, nicely skulled and dropping a beautiful udder. Blair is a master at layering his best cow families together. Winnie 233K is way along to a homo polled E.C. son out of a Maxine cow. Winnie, Maxine, Fancy, Hadie…maternal greatness is lined up and ripe for the picking in Goodview Winnie 233K!

Twin View Sugar 12K is one we will absolutely regret offering and she can be yours! We can’t say enough about the job Crowfoot has done creating performance cattle with calving ease. Sugar 12K is a direct daughter of living legend, Twin View Sugar 26F, who has cemented her place in the hall of great ones! Her list of accomplishments makes her a rarity in the industry and she’s just getting warmed up. She is the only living Gelbvieh female to earn a world title, she won Agribition, she raised the National Junior Bull Calf Champion in 2022 and her first four sons have generated an average $10,750 in revenue with all four influencing purebred herds. One of those sons, Hustle, is a flushmate to 12K and topped our bull sale this spring Braylen Blake Gelbvieh. We have three daughters in production and have been hoarding them for ourselves. We knew the time would come to share some Sugar so 12K was the first female we earmarked for this event as our ‘feature’ bred female.
Twin View Sugar 12K is elegant, sheek, beautifully designed, has a big sweeping rib and a perfect disposition all while setting down a beautiful udder. She is so level topped and wide pinned. Quite simply, we just love this one and believe her future is limitless. An elite donor prospect of this caliber is rarely made available. Twin View Sugar 12K!

ET work is a critical part of our work and we spend countless hours discussing the next right cow to bring into the fold. AWB Birch’s Grace 178D has been blowing up our radar for some time now with her striking good looks and outstanding production record. She is one sexy lady who gets the job done year after year! Every calf has made the keeper pen with ease. She has daughters working for Diamond Acre Farm and Macdonell Farms. We’ve been breeding her to Mayweather and she’s raising her third consecutive full brother. The first two are working at Fairhaven Farms and Last Mountain Livestock. We paired her with Vendetta who was the National Champion Junior Bull Calf in 2021 before selling to Stonegate Farms. The results from this mating will be hairy, homozygous polled, PB88’s and have unreal foot and udder design. Get in on the ground floor with some of our newest and most up and coming genetics.

Beautiful mother cows excite us more than anything and Fladeland Flicker 7F certainly meets the criteria of a beauty! Her consistent and high-end production along with the outcross pedigree to our program brought her to the donor pen. Flicker 7F raised a daughter who is currently weaning an exceptional bull calf just like 7F herself is! She also raised one of our feature bulls this spring and we know she’s just getting started. We flushed her to Bold Ruler this spring and look forward to that mating arriving in February. We simply can’t say enough about the job Bar None has done here! He consistently adds depth of body, stretch from end to end along with colour and look. He has bred so consistently and continues to develop into a bull we’re so proud to own! He is our largest sire group in 2022 and his progeny will anchor our show string and our spring bull sale. We’ve kept him very exclusive so far and this is one of your first chances to put your own name on a runaway hit!
