November Gold Sale 2022

Page 1

On behalf of the November Gold Sale Group, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to our 10th Annual Prospect & Club Calf Sale. 10 years! Wow! It is crazy to think it has been that long, and we couldn’t be more proud or more humbled to be headed into our 10th year together! It is our second year selling at Lloyd and we couldn’t be happier about it. Such a wonderful facility and a welcoming staff! Thank you to the Lloyd Ex for giving us such a great home for our sale!

What a heck of a year for these Juniors! Things are back to normal and we couldn’t be more excited to see all of the successes at all of the Junior Shows and 4H Shows this year! Huge thank you to all the Juniors and their families for all of your hard work this past year, we can’t express how proud we all are of you! I don’t think we have ever had a year where so many of our calves were shown at so many shows! It truly blew us away and we couldn’t be more grateful that you all put on the extra miles despite the rising cost in fuel and everything else for that matter! We saw many 4H Champions at both Club & Regional Levels, Junior Show Champions and also 4 steers hit the ring at the Calgary Stampede, competing very well. We have truly enjoyed following each and every one of you this past year!

This year our Sale group has really brought their best to town. This is a group of steers that suit all ages and all levels of competition. Whether you are just looking for a kid friendly 4H steer or that steer that could take you to the Stampede- we truly believe as you flip through these pages, you will find your calf. With cow herds shrinking across the west due to ongoing drought and the rising cost of farming, we wanted to offer a solid group of females. From elite show heifers, to solid pasture front runners, this is a group of females to be sought after. We hope you can see we have put our best foot forward with the group we have on offer. Only the Good Ones Sell- so to speak.

We are extremely happy to welcome the DLMS crew back to broadcast our sale again this fall. They continue to do an outstanding job for us and we find their website very user friendly. We would like to extend a big thank you to our families and friends that help to make this Sale happen, as it really does take a small village! We are also grateful to welcome our friend Mike Fleury back to the auction block this fall. Mike is truly a staple in this sale. Without Mike believing in our vision 10 years ago, we would not be handing out this catalogue today. Thank You Mike, we are forever grateful for your support and friendship. The auction block would not be the same without you on it!

It takes grit, a love for ag, beef, nature and this crazy unpredictable life to keep doing what we all do. This year the Ag commu nity has seen rising costs in every aspect of the farm, a brutally cold winter, a summer filled with crazy storms- floods, hail and tornadoes, all the while others are in desperate need for a drop of rain. But here we are, a little scuffed and a little worn down, but we are still standing. Resilience is a word that comes to mind when I think of a farmer. We will continue to haul these calves to town as long as you will let us, as we aren’t ready to toss in the towel yet. The cattle market is strong and so is our optimism. There are better days to come. We are truly Ag Proud.

Yours Truly, November Gold Sale Crew - Arch Holdings, Wright Livestock, Wright Cattle Company & Elldem Cattle Investments

2 We can’t find one thing about this little steer that we don’t love! From his sparkling personality to his fuzzy hair and chubby steer look, we think Comanche is a perfect little package. Comanche is a full brother to our Lot 1 steer sold last fall to Carter Goudy. We think this guy has all the potential of his brother- if not more. He is stout, sound, big bodied, loves to eat, and a steer we feel could really take you places. He was a member of our summer show string hanging Champion and Reserve Champion honors at the Perdue Fair and PA EX. 1 ARCH COMANCHE 483K SIRE/ GETCHA SOME DAM/ 145B (SIMMENTAL) DOB/ Jan.27/22 CONSIGNED BY ARCH HOLDINGS
3 Woodrow is another member of our summer show string, hitting the PA Ex and hanging a Champion and a Reserve Champion title. He is full brother to our Lot 5 steer-Gus, sold to Harrison Mitchell last fall. Woodrow has the same demeanor as Gus- quiet as a kitten. He is a really solid steer- long bodied, nice fronted and has a good hip and top in him. Woodrow is a steer we think has a ton of potential and will make a great fat steer with that extra eye appeal. 2 ARCH WOODROW 459K SIRE/ RSA TIMBERWAGON 294F DAM/ STELLA 286F (NEXT OF KIN) DOB/ Jan.4/22 CONSIGNED BY ARCH HOLDINGS

Raddler is a steer we really appreciate. He is out of a no miss cow- Arch Walk Softly, the Dam of Jack’s show heifer this year- Arch Holly 401J. She just clicks with a Simmy sire. Raddler is super long and stout with a massive hip and slick neck. He posses a ton of bone and strides out very well. This is all topped off with that most desirable cherry red color that is sure to capture some attention. Watch for this beast to show in the Lloyd Stockade Roundup.

Old Maggie strikes again. She was an imminent part of our herd, leaving a trail of good daughters and solid steers. Murphy is proof of that. She crossed well with our Daddy’s Money son- Foreman, throwing in great muscle expression, tons of bone, big ribs, and a sharp front end into Murphy. Murphy is super quiet and would be great for showmen of all ages.

There isn’t a cow that has more influence in our club calf program than Halle Berry, and it makes us happy to see her career end with a great calf like Tweeder. Tweeder is a really soft made, loose hided steer. He loves to eat and will be one that is easy to feed. He has a ton of hair that will be really fun to work with and the typical personality of any Halle Berry offspring- super quiet. We think this special calf will be a great steer for a first year 4Her.

If you are looking for a steer with no club calf influence then Poncho is your guy. He is a purebred Simmy steer off a first calf heifer. We really like the look of this February born calf. He has really nice muscle expression and a nice soft middle, topped off with the best fuzzy ears and baldie face. We can just picture him in the 4H ring with a Junior on his halter! We think Poncho is going to be a really neat project.

6 15K has been one of the favorites at our place since he was born. 15K has the added bone and muscle that Here I Am is known for, he is great to look at, and he’s sound on all four corners. 15K is a steer that has a ton of future and one, in the right hands, could do some damage come spring and summer. 7 WCC 15K SIRE/ HERE I AM DAM/ SIMM/ANGUS DOB/ Jan 27/22 CONSIGNED BY WRIGHT CATTLE COMPANY

8 33K is one cool individual! 33K is a steer that is super square built, extremely hairy with the bone and muscle; he makes doing chores enjoyable. 33K is the type of steer that is hard to pick apart, one that I am proud to have raised, and one that will be easy to find come sale time! 33K is one we like quite a bit. 9 WCC 33K SIRE/ IN GOD WE TRUST DAM/ MONOPOLY/ANGUS DOB/ Feb 9/22 CONSIGNED BY WRIGHT CATTLE COMPANY
9 48K is the youngest steer in our group but one that can hang with the big boys. 48K has some added stretch and grow to him, yet, still is proportional in all aspects of his design. 48K is a steer that has a great appetite, super attitude with enough muscle, hair, and capacity to be noticed come show time. 11 Another calf out of one of our most reliable cows – she has been responsible for many great calves who have gone through this sale. A brother sold to Tegan Hovdebo in 2020 and the two of them had an incredible season! This is another one who we feel is very complete in his makeup and has a bright future ahead of him. He’s long bodied, sound, and ready to compete. 12 WRIGHT STEER 36K SIRE/ ANGUS DAM/ SHORTHORN/CLUBBY DOB/ Mar. 23/22 CONSIGNED BY WRIGHT LIVESTOCK
12 Truly been a stand out for all who visited this summer. He’s quite impressive having a slightly larger frame than we normally have on offer, but being able to carry enough muscle and rib. In terms of his foot size and structure we feel he’s got what it takes to remain sound and easy moving. This would be one to be very competitive at the spring shows due to his added size, but moving forward easy to manage continuing to be shown late into the summer. Take a good look at this one If you are serious about show steers. 13 ELLDEM 3 OAK 205K SIRE/ 3 OAK DAM/ 19G (SIMPLIFY) DOB/ Jan. 5/22 CONSIGNED BY ELLDEM CATTLE INVESTMENTS

Truly a very eye-catching individual that packs a big punch, sitting on top of a sound structure and great hoof. A maternal sibling from last year that went by the name Scooby, shown by Casie Brokenshire, should sound very familiar if you followed the show circuit even in the slightest. Could quite possibly be one of the easiest to work calves we have had to date. Along with a great disposition he’s just a tank and quite frankly hard to pick a hole in him. He’s stout, he’s deep, he’s hairy and most of all he’s sound. On a side note, the 801E cow is directly influenced by two of the most highly producing females for us. One being the Monopoly Money cow that raised the 2021 Calgary Champion steer for the Eaton Family. The other one being the Sugar Rush cow that raised the highly decorated 2022 3rd overall Calgary Steer for the Brokenshire Family. With some of best steers we’ve raised being incorporated into the making of this one, we feel the proof is in the pudding.

Although we lacked on numbers of steers born this year, we feel very humbled with what we bring to the table for quality. As far as feed efficiency and overall show presence this guy has as much as any in the offering. Quite a cool looking and proud individual with what we believe carries enough overall freshness and mass to be competitive at any level or timing of show. A little different kind of package in comparison to rest of the offering being a higher percentage Maine but yet one we are extremely happy with.

In Loving Memory of our Friend Dean Horn

This year we lost a dear friend, Dean Horn. He loved cattle, he loved showing, he loved pitching in wherever he cold to give a hand, he loved 4H, he loved to laugh and joke around, he loved wrestling, he loved rodeo, he loved his family and his friends with all he had. Dean had an infectious smile and laugh, even when he was battling his inner demons. He was a kind, compassionate human being, and we truly believe the world needs more “Deans”. He loved helping us at November Gold and we loved having him there. We know he will be with us sale day, in the wash rack, singing a crazy song and giggling. We miss you Dean. We hope you are keeping everyone smiling up there.

We decided upon the 10th Anniversary of our sale it was only fitting to do a t-shirt, this year honoring our friend, Dean. Dean loved getting the annual November Gold t-shirts, so we thought this was the perfect touch. Our very talented friend, Jamie-Rae Pittman donated her valuable time and artistic ability to design the logos for this shirt, and they couldn’t be more perfect. All the profits will be donated to STARS Air Ambulance in Dean’s honor. It is a service so important to all of Saskatchewan, especially to us rural folk. We can’t wait to share our fundraising total with you at the Sale this year and more-so, we can’t wait to see you all in your t-shirts honoring such a special guy! Thank you to all who supported such a wonderful cause in Dean’s memory.

With our heifer pen busting at the seams in only seemed fitting to incorporate a couple purebred options into this year’s edition of November Gold. The Junior Angus program is one of the most sought after and supported JR programs in the country. With the 2023 JR Angus Showdown set to be held in Swift Current, it adds a huge incentive to look at purchasing a purebred Angus. It was tough to allow two from the top of the pen to sell, but we feel it’s important to showcase our best. As far as pedigrees go, they are relatively stacked in terms of Angus qualities we strive for. With each heifer inheriting back to the well-known LD Capitalist 316, who was known add structure and soundness without sacrificing muscle and performance. As we really dig into the pedigree we see sires like American Classic, First Class, Style, and GQ, which to anyone who follows the Angus breed, knows these are well known for show attributes. This sire lineup really clicked with the Flora cow family, a well-known cow family to all who visit. Not only does the Flora cow family get used in our Angus program, but we incorporated into the club calf program as well, to add softness to the steers and strengthen maternal traits. Both heifers selling in their entirety so here’s a chance to get in to the Angus breed with an accelerated genetic advantage.
