RED MOON ANGUS HERD HEALTH
Red Moon Angus employs a complete herd health program focusing on preventative care of the herd. The breeding herd is vaccinated with Express 5, Fusogard and blackleg boosters prior to breeding. The calves are vaccinated in the spring and fall with Pyramid 5 Presponse and black leg vaccine. The bull calves are given Fusogard in the late fall and early winter for footrot prevention. I would like to wish the Moons the best of luck on their bull sale. Dr. Kim Beaudette, DVM

ANGUS GS AND GENOMIC TESTING
All bulls in catalog have been DNA tested under the Angus GS program. Sires are verified. Genomic testing is one more tool for breeders to use to more accurately predict the future performance of animals as parents in the population, but this is not a replacement to performance data recording. Genomic test results in addition to pedigree, performance and progeny data for increased reliability of an animal’s EPD. Visual on the animal is still very important when choosing your herd bulls.

Welcome
Welcome to our 2nd on line timed auction. Thank you to all that bid and purchased from us last year. The way we sell the bulls may have changed but not the quality of the bulls. We are happy to team up with the BC Livestock Producers Cooperative NextLot system. Please feel free to contact us or Elysia Penner (250 570 1415) with any questions you may have on the system. On offer are 16 Red Angus yearling bulls. The contacts from BCLC have walked the pen and will be familiar with the quality of the bulls. Please feel free to contact them. Our bulls reflect the fundamentals we breed for, calving ease, structure, maternal traits, muscle and performance. They will be 15 to 17 months by the time they head to your breeding pasture. The Dam’s side of things plays a very important role in her offspring, as such we include as much info on her in our write-ups as we can. More information is available as we get closer to sale date, such as current weights. We record every bull’s destination and can easily tell you if you have used a particular genetic line. We continue to use Top AI sires in our lineup and purchase good walking bulls. Always keeping in mind the needs of our customers. We will have the bulls penned on Saturday March 26th form 10 am to 5 pm for you to walk through at your leisure here at the home place. 10114 Snell Rd West, Vanderhoof, BC. You are also welcome to visit the farm from now to sale day. All the bulls are fed a home, we feed a balanced ration and our own grown dry mixed forage. Bulls are fed to promote healthy growth and development. The pen is on a complete vaccination program; including express 5 and protection for foot-rot, by sale day, all will have had their booster shots and ivermectin. We weigh throughout winter, weather permitting, weights may be viewed on our web site www.redmoonnangus.com. The pen is fed by hand and bulls are familiar with people walking amongst them. All bulls will be vet checked and semen tested. They will be ready to work for you! Searching through our past bull buyers list we find it extremely satisfying to find the amount of repeat customers of our bulls, we can’t thank you enough for your continuing support.

The first son of Red Moon Going Places 15G, who now resides with C4 Ranching in Vanderhoof, he definitely made an impression in the 2019 sale and went on to be our high seller that day. Moon 10J is from a first calf heifer, we purchased the heifer to create some new lines in our females. She has done an outstanding job on this first calf. This bull is in the top 15 % for calving ease, top 20% for Weaning weight and top 10% for yearling weights and top 3% for milk. The Dam herself is in the 10% of breed average for calving ease with a birth weight of 60 lbs. With Reverence the Georgina cow family crossed with Red Moon Going Places 10J makes a good pick for heifers. Solid foot and loads of hair.

70lb birthweight with great grow, Can’t say enough about the sire Moon 15G, and he has passed our expectations, with our heifer’s big time. Now thinking we should have kept him. A bit smaller frame on this bull with a good calving ease front end without giving up to much hip. The Dam was purchased as a heifer calve to again open a new breeding line for our herd. Dams birthweight 67 lbs, with Foreigner as her sire and a good Lady cow behind her we expect she will be around a long time. Good front on this bull, nicely put together would recommend on 2nd calvers or cows. A little heavier birth weight from a solid heifer, who will go on to be a great addition to our herd. She herself had a 78lb birthweight. Going back to Red Moon Dragon Slayer 23 D. Thus bull should have the same quiet disposition his Dam, Sire and Grand Sire possess. Top 10% in milk, top 8 % in weaning and tip 3 % in yearling. A good female producer.
Genomic technology has been used to make EPDs more accurate. The genomic data increases the accuracy with which we relate animals to each other, verifying pedigree information, and allowing us to apply phenotypes of related animals to non-phenotyped animals. Genotyping animals has led to more accurate EPDs for younger animals. This means that doing the Angus GS test on an animal gives you as much information as having 23 calves with birth weights recorded and as many as 12 calves tested for individual feed intake. It’s specifically designed for Angus genetics. There is a lot of value on genomic technology, specifically the Angus GS test. EPDs: are a universal way of describing the genetic potential of progeny from breeding stock, a genetic selection tool that can help producers reach a breeding selection goal for their herd. EPDs: can help you maintain the traits that you want to keep in your herd. EPDs: are the only fair way to compare breeding stock across herds and different environments. Angus GS includes: • SNP Parentage Verification • Genetic condition test results • Genomic percentile ranks • GEPDs (more accurate gnomically enhanced epds)
