Welcome to the fourth annual Spring Select Bull and Female Sale. This year we are pleased to welcome back Reanne Sanford with KRS Simmentals and Al and Lorraine Sanford from Nine Mile Ranch. Please contact Reanne and Lorraine directly for specific details on their exciting offerings. We are also pleased to be offering commercial open heifer calves on consignment by Phil and Barb Pybus. Phil and Barb reside in Spirit River and calve out a 500+ head herd of Simmental cross cattle sired by Simmental breeding bulls. They also background several hundred calves each year. The Pybus’s have been purchasing bulls from our program since our move to the Peace Region, and the calves on offer are representative of the type and make that our bulls will generate. Calves will be offered in groups with specific details announced sale day. The Spring Select Sale has developed into an affordable and quality source for diverse, profitable, and honest Simmental and Angus breeding bulls and females, and should be considered as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for serious cattlemen looking to maintain or add hybrid vigor to their herds. The offerings in this year’s sale are as strong as we have seen, and are purposely bred for the Cattlemen and the demands of the Peace Region. Our own program continues to trend with industry with significant investment in both Red and Black Simmental genetics in recent years. Buyers will see new bloodlines on offer in this sale and even more next year, so please stay in touch for the newest bloodlines coming to the Peace Region. Our belief in the Simmental breed is strong. We believe that bulls should look like bulls, and females like females. The bulls are bred with moderation in mind, but our goal is/has always been high weaned weights. These weights are not by accident as each mother cow, be it a first calver or a 14-year-old, works to raise her calf on grass and bush pasture. The calves make their mommas work, and they are up to the task. The result is calves that push the scale down, and in commercial terms, profit the Cattleman. Our female selection criteria is strict, and our focus when considering mating selection is on physical traits (length of spine, head size and shoulder shape) versus a purely numerical Birth Weight endeavour. Birth weight can be deceiving with respect to calving ease, and should be cautiously used for consideration only. The 2016 Bull Crop on offer on March 6th, exhibits a set of bulls with moderate frame, clean fronts, but explosive growth with muscle capacity built in. Our focus is, and will continue to be our local Cattlemen. Soundness, longevity and temperament are our corner stones. We are a ‘Low Pressure - No Pressure’ operation. This means no cattle dogs, no running animals around unnecessarily, and low pressure handling tactics when in close spaces. Animals that don’t fit this system end up down the road. Our stock is raised in this country, and we breed for it. Excellent feet, and legs, good hair coats, and hardiness need to be intact on every bull. CCE is the likelihood of a sire’s progeny requiring assistance when born to a mature cow. A higher EPD represents a higher likelihood of an unassisted calving. The addition of CCE has also meant that the regular CE EPD has been renamed to HCE (Heifer Calving Ease). It is important to note that HCE and CCE values cannot be compared with one another. The Stay EPD represents the probability of a sire’s daughters remaining in the cowherd until at least 6 years of age. A higher EPD represents a greater likelihood of daughters remaining in the cowherd. Other major changes include the addition of new data as contributed by CSA members, as well as membership from other contributing breed associations.

Red Moon Moxie a 13 year old matron who just happened to be one of the best footed females to walk our pastures as well as an excellent udder, along with her structural soundness and fertility earned her right to be a donor female at Nine Mile. Diablo 38D was the sixth highest gaining bull at weaning with a weaning ratio of 110, not bad for a moderate framed, very nice fronted 84lb heifer bull. In fact, all of his EPDs are in the top 25% with calving ease direct..in the top 10%.

TERMS & CONDITIONS TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the sale clerk before any cattle will be released. All monies are in Canadian Funds. BID - Every animal entering the ring will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. INSURANCE – Will be available sale day. All animals returning to Fallen Timber Farms must be insured. INFORMATION & PICTURES SUPPLIED - The information contained in this catalog is believed to be true and accurate. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalog. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the Canadian Simmental Association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by VJV, Fallen Timber Farms, KRS Simmentals, or Nine Mile Ranch. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. BREEDERS GUARANTEE - As per applicable Canadian Simmental Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. HEALTH - It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors. or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.
