Welcome

FROM TURNBULL CHAROLAIS

It is hard to believe that this is already the fifth year of us having the sale on the ranch. We are so fortunate, and extremely grateful to have the customer base that we do that allows us to host our own Bull Sale. With that being said, we look forward to selling this group of Bulls.

This year, we have an impressive selection of heifer bulls, with ~31% of them weighing less than 90lbs at birth and still gaining enough to ensure their calves will put on those important pounds after calving easy. Of course, we still have a great selection of cow bulls. All of our bulls come from reputable cows that continue to prove themselves in our herd. When we cull, we are critical on foot structure, bags, mothering tendencies, and especially temperament. As a result of how critical we are on our cows, we can say with confidence that our bulls will carry those performance genetics to enhance your purebred herd, while also being sound enough to be left alone with your commercial herd. We castrated around 35% of our bulls this year, so buy with confidence knowing that bulls you buy here will get the job done. Not only will they get the job done, they will leave you with high-quality calves to be used however you see fit.

We encourage you to stop by the ranch prior to the sale to view the bulls in person. However, if you are unable to do so, pictures and videos of the bulls will be available for viewing on the Charolais Banner or DLMS.

Whether it be any time from now to sale day on March 1st, or when we deliver your bull(s), we look forward to seeing you! Thank you for your continued support and interest in our program.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Curt at (403)627-6951.

Welcome

FROM WRIGHT LIVESTOCK MARKETING

Welcome to the 5th Annual Turnbull Charolais and Guests Bull Sale!

What an exciting time to be in the cattle business! With record high prices being seen in the market, it has provided the opportunity for many cattlemen to sell off their aging herd bulls, receive top dollars for their calf crop and rejuvenate their herd by selling culls at record prices. This has all contributed to many cattlemen being on the hunt for new genetics to add to their herds. If you are one of those cattlemen in the search to add a new herd bull or two to your program, you won’t want to look any further than this sale offering.

We are excited to be working with the Turnbull Charolais program once again, with their long-time guests in the sale, A & L Robbins Ranching Ltd. Angus. It is always a pleasure to work with both producers to promote their tremendous offering of Charolais and Red & Black Angus Bulls. We say this year after year and sound like a broken record, but each and every year, the quality of this long running sale’s offering keeps getting better and better. We hope you have a look for yourself to see what all the hype is about.

The Turnbull Charolais program is renowned for the quality of their herd throughout the Charolais breed worldwide. The cows that they have built their program on are functional, correct, foundation type females that go out and work in rough and rugged terrain and climate. Foot structure is imperative, as well as the cow’s ability to work and produce. The pen of bulls in this year’s sale offering is a true testament to what the Turnbull Charolais program strives for. The bulls are functional, smooth made and capable of working in whatever program type that they are chose to service. Whether purebred or commercial, calving ease or performance, payweight calves or if you are retaining females to expand your herd on, there is a bull in this offering that can meet your needs and goals of your program. Buy with confidence, as the customer service that Curtis and Nanette provide is exceptional! They stand behind their bulls, it’s their way of life.

Alvin and Lorraine Robbins have once again assembled a very consistent and functional set of Red and Black Angus long yearling and coming two-year old bulls for your evaluation. These bulls are developed and kept to be offered as coming two-year old bulls. There is a new herd sire group in the offering that should not be overlooked, those being the Stellar Jeff sons. The consistency and uniformity of the bulls in both the Red Angus and Black Angus program is a true testament and direct result of A & L Robbins Ranching’s keen eye and development of a program that consists of quality, functionality and correctness, all things that A & L bulls are known for.

Please join us on sale day, whether in person where the hospitality of the Turnbull and Robbins families is second to none, online through DLMS, or phone bidding if that is where you are most comfortable. If you are looking for assistance in finding the right bull(s) for your program, please do not hesitate to contact any of the consignors, sale staff or Wright Livestock Marketing. Any one of us would be happy to answer your questions or help you on your search to finding your next herd bull.

Hope to see you sale day!

Sincerely,

Homo Polled

This is the first set of Default calves we have produced here; our only complaint is we don’t have more! For a new herdsire to come into our program and have as big of an impact as Default has had is hard to believe. The Default bulls are my type of bulls, soggy, big nutted, nice bone, masculine head, big topped and the feet are shaped right and big. We are super excited to see how Default works into our program, as he will be heavily used in the future.

DC/CJR TANK E108 P

Polled. Tank has taken the Charolais breed by storm with his exceptional calving ease combined with an impressive growth curve, which is what attracted us to secure his genetics. We feel our Tank sons on offer have exceptional hoof size, shape and quality. Tank was only used here on a flush of one of our favorite cows, Miss Google 358Z. Tank calves impressed us with the growth in both the bulls and heifer calves this past summer. Watch for the Tank E108P bull to continue to have an impact in our program.

Homo Polled

Turnbulls Duty-Free 358D x HTA Vegas 134Y, Polled Fortune is a Duty-Free son that has been a standout in the bull pen. He exhibits many of the same remarkable traits as his notable herdsire. Both his dam and granddam are impressive females, with excellent feet and tidy udders. His sons consistently stand-out, and exhibit added performance. Look for the Fortune sons to be long, thick, soggy, hairy and easy doing, all while standing on a solid foot. This will be the last natural service set of bulls for us this year.

Homo Polled. The calving ease bull that continues to impress! Not often in the Charolais breed does a heifer bull sire as many crops as Magnum has, he is one athletic bull. Magnum has a solid foot and skeleton design that has allowed him to be a mainstay in our heifer pen. You will see there is a large selection of sons offered in the sale this year and we believe for good reason. The red and black females bred Charolais topped the markets across Canada. Magnum continues to sire calves born unassisted and full of vigour.

Sire

Sire

Top 10% of breed for WW and YW• Yellowstone is a bull that we bought from Cedarlea Farms in 2021, and he has surpassed all expectations. This exceptional, standout herdsire is big hipped, deep made, clean fronted and stands on big, sound feet with a disposition that is as quiet as they come. Yellowstone is one of the most complete bulls we have introduced to date and is a curve bender! Look for his sons that are long, deep sided, heavy haired, smooth, athletic and eye appealing in the bull pen. Yellowstone sons are a group of bulls you don’t want to miss!

Keys DUDE 223J

Homo Polled

Dude is a bull we admire for his extra length of body. Dude has a great foot and a ton of meat and muscle throughout his hip and hind quarter. Our Dude sons on offer have the same quality traits. Dude has a gentle disposition and is easy to work with. The Dude sons are easy fleshing and growthy. Dude calves easy and the calves have lots of get up and go at birth.

Jager is a bull we sourced from the good people at Hunter Charolais. Jager has continued to impress us with his soggy, rugged, heavy muscled sons. Jager has a ton of calving ease and growth in his progeny. Jager could be the longest bodied bull we have owned here and when his sons hit the scales it shows. Jager will continue to have a lasting impact in our program.

Guinness is a new herd bull to Turnbull this year. Guinness is so sound in his structure, has a near perfect foot and a heavy hair coat which is what attracted us to Guinness. Guinness combines some of the Charolais breed greats - Legend 307A, Wynnemaker 983W and Downtown 7C. Guinness has a great balanced set of EPD’s, a ton of growth and that long wavy Charolais hair the feed yards fight over.

Polled. Gold Coast is an excellent footed Duty-Free son out of a very productive Bodacious female from Palmer Charolais. A heavy-muscled, lengthy, smooth shaped bull with above average growth numbers, who definitely takes after his sire. Gold Coast is a long strided, smooth moving, tremendous breeder.

You have no time for downtime, and we get it. You and your cattle deserve the best. And that’s no bull.

Welcome

Hello Everyone!

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our annual bull sale. We have a good selection of both Red and Black Angus bulls: long yearling bulls and 2-year-old bulls.

The main priority in our breeding program continues to be providing bulls that have calving ease, and with excellent growth potential.

We invite you to come to our farm to see the bulls. All of our bulls can be seen at the farm until sale day. Viewing can also be done on sale day at the Turnbull farm. Thank you to Curtis and Nanette for hosting this sale and inviting us to be part of it.

Thank you to all of our previous buyers and to anyone who has placed bids on our bulls. We always welcome feedback and are happy to answer your questions.

Red Count Ridge Robust Sire

This bull was kept back as a spare to bred heifers to, but didn’t end up needing to use him. He sells as a virgin bull.

This sire is 8 years old. He is in the top 7% for calving ease, top 8% for milk and above average growth. His daughters have excellent feet and udders with small teats.
