HILL COOPERATIVE YOUTH SERVICES, INC. BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING APRIL 2001 MINUTES Board Members Present: Steve Wizner, Velma George, Suzanne Cooper, Steve Jacobowitz Staff Present: Kaye Harvey, Natalie Barragan Meeting was called to order @ 8:05 AM Kaye informed the Board that DSS owes us $60,000. And Carter-Hayes owes us $42,000 from OPM (Jan.- Jun.) Kaye stated that employee loans and advances need to be rolled down. We should look into payroll services, maybe someone from Carter-Hayes. We should charge balance, and look for an Accounting Firm. Everyone discussing budget sheet from Jan. to Mar. Kaye stated that HCYS wanted to own the building, and needed to look at grants when building was owned (for refurbishment). She also stated that the building was well worth saving. Steve W. added that building is a landmark and needed an appraisal who will be accepted by lenders and funding. Board members discussing the removal of asbestos from basement. Park and Rec. found money to remove the asbestos. HCYS needs to be closed for a few weeks or move over to Community Schools. An inconvenience to parents but must be done. Kaye stated that if Park and Rec. doesn’t have money for asbestos removal, parents and staff are willing to march to City Hall. Building Committee need to schedule a meeting. Steve Wizner states that we need to remove asbestos ASAP. Steve J. suggested that if Park and Rec. doesn’t make arrangements to remove asbestos HCYS should speak to News Reporter to see building’s condition. Kaye stated that staff accountability has been created (task assignment sheet). Charts report all activities and changes to see what type of outreach is being done w/ children and parents. Steve J. asked Kaye if she has time to read all the weekly reports, Kaye reported that she goes through each and every one of them.


Suzanne asked if there’s any way to start networking HCYS i.e. telefunding, telemarketing and mailings for suggested donations. Mailings must be accompanied with telephone calls. (Hill Cooperative) branding must be made in order to get name out. Ife asked if we are going to integrate children of Montessori and Summer Tiny-Tots. The children for the Tiny-Tots will be held at Roberto Clemente. The space is reserved for the Tiny Tots program. Steve J. wants total cost of transportation, insurance, supply expense and population was from last year. Ruth Lambert is interested in raising money for HCYS Suzanne is interested in speaking with her.

There being no more business, a motion to adjourn was entertained, properly second and the meeting was adjourned @ 9:05 AM
