United Way 21 Futures Objective
To recruit youth from Greater New Haven to participate in a program called N.F.T.E *National Foundation for Teach Entrepreneurship. Through this program, young people ages 12-16 will learn the basics of starting, learning work ethics as well as maintaining their own business. While participating in this program, they will receive a stipend from “Film and Movie Production Company.” The 21 Futures “Film and Movie Production Company” exists to give young and aspiring artist, play wright and designers the chance to showcase their talents. In order for the film and movie production to begin 21 futures members will have to learn about the film industry. Leadership What makes a good leader? We asked the youth to define what a good leader looks and sounds like as well as the characteristics needed to be a good leader. Positivity, responsibility, helpful, punctual, efficient, hard worker. The answers that were given indicated two things. They identified youth that could be put in leadership roles and youth that needed to develop their own leadership skills. “Jr. Assistants” The Jr assistants will be given the chance to enhance the leadership skills possessed as well as develop new ones by running workshops, organizing their peers and communicating with Sr. office staff. The members of the Jr. assistants/21 Futures will become the governing body for the other youth.
As part of the governing body, Jr. assistants decide on member policies, group activities and plan team-building activities.
Implementation The Film and Movie Production Company is broken into departments. The Jr. assistant will be in leadership positions of these different departments. Anyone involved in the Film and Movie Production will be required to attend three one-hour classes per week. During these classes, they will be learning the basic concepts of business. The remaining two days will be spent on preparing the movie. The classes continue in the fall of 2001 and run for a semester, ending in December. In December the movie screening will take place. Director –leads in the filming of the movie. Producer-puts all of the work together. Scriptwriter-writer of the movie. Actors-people who play rolls of the characters of a movie. Stunt Specialists-people who stand in for so action scenes for the actors. Executive producer-tells the producer what to keep and what knot to keep. Photography & director
Production designer-a person who sets up what the producer wants. Editor-a person who can make stuff look good. Costume designer- designs the clothes worn during the movie. Co-producerMusic producer-sets up the soundtrack.
