Seasonal TREATS To skip the stress this Christmas, try entertaining outside your home. Audrey Simon has some suggestions.
Whether modern or traditional, the Christmas time for your guests. Here are some places where celebratory meal is likely to be stress-free if you you can go to eat, drink and make merry and best hold it at a restaurant. It’ll also leave you with more of all, not have to clean up afterwards. Marina Mandarin 6 Raffles Boulevard, Marina Square If you have friends visiting from out of town this Christmas, you might like to have them sample the best of local fare such as popiah, kuih pie tee and oyster omelette at AquaMarine. Eve dinner and Christmas Day brunch ($65 to $156). L’Espresso offers lunch, brunch and high tea ($45 to $98). If you enjoy variety, you can opt for Coffee Lounge’s buffet spread ($42 to $88). If a set menu sounds more attractive, check out the Chinese restaurant Min Jiang as well as Ming Jiang at One-North ($78 per person). The Deli is the best place to pick up delicious treats if you have a potluck party to attend. Our favourite is A Pot Fire ($138, pictured right), an old European recipe. This stew-based dish has smoked pork shoulder, pork belly and vegetables like turnips, pumpkin, carrots, celery and more. Christmas hampers from Mandarin Oriental will surely perk up a friend’s or associate’s day
Mandarin Oriental 5 Raffles Avenue, Marina Square Following its name change (it was formerly known as Oriental) this year, it feels like the hotel is celebrating Christmas for the first time. Melt — The World Café offers traditional fare such as two versions of roast turkey with all the trimmings. Santa will drop by on Christmas Day to entertain the children at brunch. There’s also high-tea for those who are likely to sleep in most of the day ($55+++ to $145+++). Cherry Garden offers Cantonese cuisine such as a roast barbecue meat platter ($320+++ to $880+++); Dolce Vita offers views of the city skyline and Western favourites like panfried scallops, langoustine, truffle consommé on Christmas Eve and Day ($85+++ to $125+++).
