LIMBBO FOUNDATION MAGAZINE VOL 1 Nov 2018

Welcome to the first (but hopefully not the last) edition of the LimbBo magazine. Team limbo is above and I’m Jane, the little one in the middle – Tommy’s grandma. This magazine isn’t about us as such although there may be news updates from time to time. The key aim is to share ideas, stories, links to helpful products… whatever feels relevant at the time. I’d love it if you would get in touch and would be willing to write an article for us or just send a photo and introduce yourself or your child. I run the twitter account @lbofoundation and the Instagram account limbofoundation – you can get in touch through either of those.

Limb Difference in the News I’m a disaster in the kitchen (as my family will be the first to point out) but that doesn’t stop me loving cookery shows. I love The Great British Bake off and this year it was extra special. I watched the first couple of episodes before I realised that Briony – one of the contestants – had a ‘little hand’. We always call Tommy’s arm his ‘little arm’ how do you or your children refer to their limb different hands, arms or legs? I immediately contacted her via twitter and she was so lovely! You can follow her on twitter @brionymaybakes. She is a real inspiration and very funny.

GLOVES and MITTENS Today the car ‘pinged’ to let me know it’s only 4 degrees, my son asked me to get some more gloves for Tommy as his little arm doesn’t have great circulation and is often cold, especially when walking to school. This made me think about the different ways we can overcome the little arms and hands not fitting standard gloves. I have three alternative suggestions 1. Buy two pairs of gloves and two pairs of matching mittens – this gives you two sets of gloves like these here ( These were from Next last year)

2. https://mittsthatfit.org/ I haven’t used this company but their website looks amazing – you can measure your child’s hands and even add photographs to help them to be customised’

3. Make your own! I’m not an expert knitter by any means but I can knit fingerless gloves which are basically tubes of knitting sewn up at the seam. Tommy loved his so much he went to bed in them.

Recommended Reading I work on a freelance basis for a publishing company called ‘Crown House Publishing’. https://www.crownhouse.co.uk/ The people there rae my friends and fully supportive of LimbBo Foundation. They sent me a set of the ‘Feel Brave’ books https://www.crownhouse.co.uk/publications/the-feel-brave-seriesof-childrens-books for a future fundraiser and I loved them so much they sent me another set for tommy and LJ.

These are beautifully illustrated and written, they cover topics such as friendship, worrying and bullying in a really sensitive manner. Wolfgang the central character is very engaging and gives us chance to talk to our children about anything that might be worrying them.

Interesting links and articles These are just a few random articles I’ve read this week.
