DESCRIBING A PAINTING IES LLUIS DE PEGUERA
One of my favourite paintings is Les Coquelicots (“poppies”) by the impressionist Claude Monet. It was painted in 1873 and is a charming scene of a stroll through a field full of poppies on a late summer’s day.
In the foreground we can see a woman and a small child, who seems to be dressed in a sailor’s suit. Behind them, further along the way, they are being followed by another woman and child.
In the background, there is a row of trees and a house under a cloudy sky.
I think I like this picture so much because the artist has managed to capture the time of day and year and moment perfectly. Of course, it was not painted in great detail, like many of the classical paintings that went before; instead it is a delightful impression of a moment in time.
