Canine Nutrition Seminar with

DN9 2JN. 7 Miles from M180 Junction 2 The day will comprise of a series of mini seminars each followed by an interactive Q&A session – we hope to get through all of the following: 1 Basic dog nutrition - How the anatomy/physiology of the dog influences its dietary needs. Which bit of the diet does what for the dog? 2 Pet food Manufacture - How manufactured diet is designed. What goes into a pet food, industry policies & practices 3 Types of Diet - what influences costs, relative values and how to compare diets, including home-made diets. 4 Specialist diets - diets for particular nutritional purposes. 5 Labelling - Understanding a pet food label, terms, values etc. 6 Additives and other dietary inclusions 7 Diet and behaviour – an overview how diet affects behaviour in the broadest sense. 8 Cognitive Function - learning in both young and senior dogs 9 Working dogs - Feeding the active / working dog 10 Questions and Answers – if you specific questions send them in advance for consideration and inclusion. Questions will be invited and John hopes to deal with some of the myths, fantasies and fallacies of nutrition as well as dealing with particular concerns over specific nutrients.

This seminar is ideal for all dog enthusiasts, dog trainers, professional dog handlers, instructors, behavioural trainers, breeders, kennel owners, in fact anyone with more than a passing interest in dogs. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Dr John Lowe BSc., PhD., CBiol., MIBiol., RNutr, has worked as nutritionist for over 30 years, specialising in companion animals. He has worked within the industry as nutritionist, technical director of a large pet food company and now works free-lance all over the world, lecturing and advising in all aspects of pet nutrition and pet food formulation. He is currently consultant nutritionist to Chudleys. He is past chairman of the UK Pet Food manufacturers association. He is visiting Lecturer in companion animal nutrition at Nottingham University, where he also has a number of post graduate students working in aspects of pet nutrition and pet food production. He has published many papers, conference lectures and book chapters on companion animal nutrition and feeding. More importantly he is a dog man himself so understands our enthusiasm and concerns. John is an entertaining, witty and incredibly knowledgeable speaker.
