Bandit Industries backs away from Alamo offer EMUS, MI — Bandit Industries has announced that the company will remain privately owned, in the hands of current owners Jerry Morey, Mike Morey Sr. and Dianne Morey. The three have elected to turn down the offer from Alamo Group Inc., negating Alamo’s pending acquisition of Bandit. “Alamo is an exceptional company and we are very honored that they’ve shown such an interest in Bandit and our corporate culture,” said Bandit Industries President Jerry Morey. “We share many common ideas and visions, and we are grateful for the relationships we’ve built. Ultimately, we decided the best future for Bandit and our 400 employees at this time was to remain a private company.” 2013 has been another record sales year for
Bandit Industries. The company recently completed a factory expansion of approximately 20,000 -square-feet, with additional expansions already in the works. The company’s dealer network in the United States and abroad is also expanding, and with demand for Bandit wood processing equipment at an all time high, the company continues to hire new employees at all levels. “When we first announced that we were considering offers to sell Bandit, myself, Mike Morey Sr. and Dianne Morey said that we would only sell if it was the right fit,” said Jerry Morey. “Taking care of our employees and our dealer network, continuing to support our mid-Michigan community and maintaining the Bandit legacy we built over the
last 30 years, these are things we cannot put a price on. Bandit Industries is stronger than ever because of our employees, the hard work from our dealers and our basic business model of building reliable equipment and taking care of our customers. We will continue to explore options for a potential sale of the company while sticking to these basic truths that form the core of Bandit Industries.” Bandit currently employs 408 people at its mid-Michigan headquarters, constructing nearly 50 different wood processing machines that range from small wood chippers to large wood waste recyclers, stump grinders and forestry mowers. Bandit equipment is sold worldwide through a global dealer network with over 160 locations.

Hard wood, soft mud, tough grind by Randy Happel, features writer —Two Rivers Marketing, Des Moines, Iowa on behalf of Vermeer - Pella, Iowa
Persistent rains, saturated soils and dense woods hamper efforts to clear a 90-foot wide pipeline path through the Big Thicket region in East Texas.
Because of Texas’s immense size and topography, climate changes dramatically from one side of the state to the other. While far west Texas is arid receiving little rainfall, Southeast Texas is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. On average, that area is the wettest part of the state. As a result, a drive through Southeast Texas reveals many areas of dense vegetation, including centuriesold pecan, oak and hackberry trees. There’s even an area appropriately named Big Thicket — located just north and northwest of the city of Beaumont — that boasts a varied ecology of piney woods, swamps and coastal prairies. It’s not unusual for the area referred as the Golden Triangle (Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange) to receive upwards of 60-inches of rain annually. It’s here, among the stately oaks and dense mesquite thickets of east Texas, that in 2012, Go Green Services was called upon by pipeline installation contractor Pumpco Inc. of Giddings, Texas, to clear 90-foot wide path for a natural gas pipeline. “The amount of trees was unimaginable,” says Terrell Sims, sales manager with Go Green Services,
Scrub brush lining the pipeline project is quickly ground with the HG6000TX. College Station, Texas. “There are miles and miles of huge, established pecans, oaks and hackberries with
Ground brush was routinely mixed with soil for use as cover material. 420 miles with terrain ranging from rolling hills to soggy, marshy bottoms. That combined with the huge trunks, branches and tough wood fibers of the large, established trees, made the job more challenging. Mesquite is an extremely hard wood that can reach a height of 10 to 15-feet, although in most of its range, it tends to remain shrub size. Mesquite, combined with the bushy, shrub-like blackbrush, is often difficult to remove and to grind. “The hills we did encounter aren’t all that steep or big; it’s just that when you have a hill, you’re going to encounter a bottom,” says Bruect. “There were also a lot of creek beds. So crossing all the creeks posed delays moving ahead. It was really boggy type land.” “And I don’t remember a year when we’ve had so much rain — consistent rains — in east Texas,” he adds. “There was what seemed liked several weeks in a row when we’d get a downpour on Thursday, forcing us to shut down for a day or two afterwards just because we couldn’t access the site. Then we’d try to make up for lost days over the weekend, so we could stay ahead of the pipeline crews.” “There were many times when, because of the weather, we were loading logs with the welded pipeline already laid out ready for installation,” he recalls. “So the rain not only affected our clearing the right of way; but it also made it difficult for Pumpco to trench for the pipeline. We’d never seen anything like it.” “We’ve been really pleased with the reliability and toughness of our grinders, yet, even the best equipment is going to need repairs,” Sims says. “But the frequency of such repairs can be minimized with proper servicing and maintenance. Obviously, the wet conditions were particularly hard on the equipment. I know that there were times when we may have forced materials in both grinders that were too wet for any equipment to process efficiently.” “But at the end of the day, we know we have a dealer in Vermeer Texas/Louisiana and manufacturer that we can rely on when something happens that we can’t fix ourselves. They’ve saved us many times; they’re responsive and understand how important it is that we stay up and running. When there’s a pipeline installer closing in not far behind, we can’t afford not to be moving forward.” For more information about Vermeer products, visit Vermeer.com .
trunks of enormous diameter; along with thick brush, a lot of mesquite — just about everything woody imaginable. We know the area well and because of that, we have reliable and durable grinding equipment to handle the wood and brush.” As they began their work, the Go Green Services land clearing teams encountered numerous marshy wetlands, several fences and different landowner right of way crossings. They also crossed occasional roadways along the route. Together, these hindrances, in addition to Mother Nature’s spring deluges, inhibited production efficiencies. “What we couldn’t control, however, was all the rain and mud. It rained almost continuously, making it one of the most challenging land clearing jobs we’ve ever taken on,” says Sims. Mud mats required “The grinders we own are awesome,” Sims says. “Oak, hackberry, pecan and mesquite are all very hard wood and tough to grind. We chose the HG6000TX on tracks for this job, primarily because it is easier to get into the limited space we had, and because it’s lighter than the HG8000TX. Because of the mud and marshes, we had to position the grinder on mats at all times; otherwise, the machine would have sunk into the muddy, marshy soil. Aside from the challenging conditions, the toughness and sheer magnitude of the wood really put the capabilities of the HG6000TX grinder to the test.” Sims estimates the HG6000TX grinder was in use approximately eight hours every day, with periodic timeouts for inspection and servicing. He says proper servicing is critical for achieving maximum production rates and advises fellow land-clearing contractors to remain diligent in taking good care of equipment. According to Shaun Bruect, project superintendent for Go Green Services, most of the wood was processed with the company’s Vermeer HG6000TX horizontal grinder and was outfitted with a 6-inch screen. For much of the project, the ground wood was mixed in with topsoil to serve as a stabilizer and impediment to erosion unless otherwise specified by individual landowners. In those instances, the woody material was hauled to a site nearby where Go Green Services ground the woody material with their Vermeer HG8000TX grinder. The entire scope of the project spanned more than

MSHA Safety: Bulldozer accident prevention alert A non-fatal accident occured when a bulldozer overturned on an embankment, rolling onto a bench below. Low temperatures and frozen ground created the condition, which led to the accident. Best Practices 1. Conduct adequate examinations of working areas especially during adverse weather conditions. Additional examinations may be needed where
frozen ground exists; 2. Train examiners to know the hazards of frozen ground (equipment can slide and sudden ground failures can occur); 3. Correct hazardous conditions before equipment is operated or ground is travelled upon; 4. Operate equipment within its design limitations; 5. Clear outslopes of large rock or stumps where track mounted
equipment will operated; 6. Install roll over protection (ROPS) and wear seatbelts at all times; 7. Install adequate lighting on mobile equipment that operates at night or during adverse weather conditions; 1. Conduct pre-operational checks before mobile equipment is operated. Report hazards to management; and 8. Maintain two way radio communications be-
tween mobile equipment operators and all personnel in the vicinity. A non-fatal accident occurred when a bulldozer broke into a cavity in a raw coal stockpile above the feeder. The bulldozer cab was completely covered and the operator was entrapped for approximately four hours before being rescued. Best Practices 1. Use enclosed cabs with rollover protection in
stockpile areas; 2. Install two means of two way communication in the bulldozer, with one powered by an independent power source; 3. Maintained communication at all times with the feeder control room and the bulldozer operator; 4. Install two 60 minute oxygen generating SCSRs in the bulldozer and inspect them during preoperational checks. Mount the SCSRs overhead and train operators
in their use; 5. Install an independent light source; 6. Install 40 psi cab window glass or chemically treat with a proper window support system; 7. Provide a remote controlled stop device in the cab that can shut off reclaim feeders and belt conveyors; abd 8. Mark feeder areas of the coal stockpile with a suspended marker near the center of each feeder.
Bandit Card Breaker system available for drum style chippers Bandit Industries now offers a Card Breaker System for hand fed and whole tree drum style chippers. The Card Breaker works similar to a screening system, restricting oversized material from exiting the machine. The system is optional for most Bandit drum style chippers, creating an even higher quality wood chip that is well suited for use in expanding biomass en-
ergy markets. “Chips of relatively uniform size and shape are much preferred for use in biomass fuel wood applications,” said Jason Morey, Bandit Industries sales manager. “By creating a better chip, our customers can have a better product to sell on the biomass fuel market.” Bandit’s Card Breaker doesn’t subtract from Bandit chippers’ leg-
endary throwing power — in fact, it benefits from it. Chips leave the drum at an incredible speed, with larger sized chips hitting the Card Breaker installed in the discharge. This breaks the chips down further, resulting in a more uniform chip ready for biofuel applications. The Card Breaker System functions without the need for additional chip accelerating devices,

and overall machine production is unaffected. At the most basic level, wood chips are being used in biomass boilers to produce both heat and power. These facilities can range in size from large regional power plants to small, single home heating systems. Outside this scope, several companies are converting wood chips into a petroleum product that could one day be a commercially viable alternative to fossil fuels. All
around the globe, people are turning to wood chips to either supplement energy production, or to outright replace it. The result is an industry that is rapidly expanding. Many professionals using hand fed chippers aren’t selling chips for biomass use. Just the opposite; they often have to pay to dispose of their chips. “Bandit is already a leader when it comes to quality and uniformity of its chips,” said Christopher Smith, Bandit In-
dustries marketing and communications director. “With our Card Breaker System, producers can make a higher quality product that can open up new revenue streams. Instead of paying to dump their chips, they could be getting paid for a valuable end product.” Learn more about the Card Breaker and Bandit’s line of drum style chippers and other wood processing machines at www.banditchippers.com or by calling 800-952-0178.

Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman expands into Southwestern PA with biggest acquisition to date The East Coast’s largest privately held scrap metal processor acquires the assets of Jack’s Recycling Upstate Shredding Ben Weitsman announced the asset acquisition of Jack’s Recycling in Mt. Morris, PA today. This deal comes on the heels of acquisitions of the assets of additional yards in Albany as well as Hornell, marking the third acquisition this month for the company. The all cash transaction will close in approximately 30 days. “This is a great strategic move for expanding our reach throughout the Northeast, especially with our two new shredders being built in Albany, NY and New Castle, PA. We do not yet have a location in this region of the Northeast so this acquisition is filling a great need to serve Mt. Morris and the surrounding regions,” said Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding and Ben Weitsman. Founded in 1962, Jack’s Recycling has taken its 105 years of combined industry experience and emerged as a leader in the area for auto and scrap (ferrous and nonferrous) recycling. The yard is located at 226 Mt. Morris Road in Mt. Morris, PA, just North of the West Virginia state border and 65 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA. Currently at 11 employees, the new Ben Weitsman of Mt. Morris will grow as the company continues to expand its footprint and execute its formula for success in the region. The brisk expansion of the company is propelled forward by seven day a week service and top pricing in the industry, which allows the privately owned scrap company to directly compete with multi-national public companies. “We have worked hard to become the scrap leader within a 60 mile radius around Mt. Morris. It was very important to us to find a suitable company that can continue to grow this facility and serve our area even better. We have looked at a number of acquisition partners and Upstate
Shredding is the only one who truly understands and has the work ethic to ensure the continued success of this yard and take it to the next level. We are excited to have the leadership and expertise that Adam Weitsman and Upstate Shredding bring
to the table and are looking forward to the transition to Ben Weitsman of Mt. Morris,” commented Rick Smith, former owner of Jack’s Recycling. Working towards its goal of 50 yards, Mt. Morris marks the 17th location for Upstate Shred-
ding - Ben Weitsman. Over the last few years, Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman has grown aggressively and profitably, more than doubling its geographic market reach over the past couple of years. Recent acquisitions include the assets
of Hornell Waste Material in Hornell, NY and Valley Recycling in Allegany, NY. The company has recently been recognized as one of the top scrap recycling companies in the world by Platts, AMM, Recycling Today and Waste & Recycling News.

oncrete products are manufactured to last almost forever. So why discard the sturdy material just because the useful life of a building or highway has ended? Sending old concrete to a landfill didn’t make sense to Terry McAfee and his son David. As a result, they embarked on a mission to recycle concrete, and Sandvik equipment is helping them. The McAfees, who own DT Specialized Services Inc.
in Tulsa, OK, oversee demolition projects across the lower Midwestern United States. Five years ago, while they were in the process of tearing down a concrete structure, they decided that the project created an unusually large pile of refuse material. That’s when their thinking changed. “We realized the sheer volume of concrete debris we created was going to be wasted, rather than recycled. That was the cornerstone of our decision to start the

crushing business,” says Terry McAfee. The result is an affiliated company that they started, called ReRock Materials, Inc. Through ReRock, the McAfees are committed to recycling as an environmental best practice, even though they live in a region where natural aggregate is in ample supply and landfill fees are low. ReRock Materials, Inc. creates recycled concrete and aggregate products. “We want to recycle a large amount of concrete per project,” David McAfee says. “But we are not doing this because, hey, this is a windfall. We are doing it as a commitment to the recycling industry.” While McAfee was experienced in construction and demolition management, he was a novice recycler. He had seen a rock crusher at ConExpo, so he went shopping for more information. After visiting recycling operations and looking over different brands of crushers, in 2008 he finally bought a mobile jaw crusher and began recycling. It was during this time that his meeting with Brian Costello, co-founder and sales director of Crushing Tigers, took place. Crushing Tigers are suppliers of mobile crushers, screening machines and spare parts in the Oklahoma and Arkansas markets. Costello sold McAfee an Extec S-3 screen, currently known as the Sandvik QA140, a tracked unit with a 10-foot x 5foot double deck screen. It exceeded McAfee’s expectations. More importantly, when McAfee discovered that not only did Costello sell reliable products, but he was also was knowledgeable about the industry. That was when he began to look to Costello for other industry insight. Helpful dealer McAfee learned that when Costello and managing director Pat Doab started Crushing Tigers, they did so

Developing a solid relationship with Demolition Technologies Specialized Services, Inc. enables Crushing Tigers and Sandvik to impact the demolition and recycling industry in Oklahoma with the intention of guiding customers toward more efficient crushing and screening operations. With that in mind, Crushing Tigers took a critical look at DT and concluded that a secondary crusher would provide more efficiency for DT operations. The problem was that David McAfee was not in the market for another crusher! To convince McAfee, the team demonstrated a Sandvik QI240 PriSec™ mobile impact crusher. Their demonstration and subsequent analysis showed that while the overhead of a second machine added to the crushing process, the cost per ton of crushed concrete decreased. Costello and Doab repeatedly crunched the numbers with David McAfee until there was no question in McAfee’s mind. “Before adding the Sandvik crusher, we were normally producing 30-50 tons of sellable products per hour,” McAfee says. “Now, if we are not doing 200 tons an hour, there is something wrong.” That massive increase in production makes all their numbers look good. The addition of the Sandvik QI240 reduced the cost per ton to one third of its original cost. Furthermore, with the QI240’s four bar rotor turning irregular chunks into uniform nuggets, reliance on the original jaw crusher was lessened, extending its working life. At DT Technologies, the QI240 is used primarily, but not exclusively, as a secondary crusher. Because the QI240 is the only impact crusher on the market capable of operating in either a primary or a secondary position, the McAfees can use the machine in either process. This unmatched versatility comes from the patented design of its impactor box. And, it’s portable Besides the QI240’s operating efficiency, what sold McAfee on it was its portability. The 43 ton crusher moves on 20-inch wide tracks, which makes transporting it on a lowboy, convenient. The compact machine is just 8 feet wide and 46-feet long easily permitable for companies wanting to operate the crusher at more than one location. “My bigger motivation in getting the QI240, aside from cost savings, was to have a machine I could throw on a trailer, run 500 tons of material in a day at one location, then move it back off site,” he says. “Its mobility is key, especially with its quick setup.”
The Sandvik QI240 impact crusher and Extec S-3 Screen unit are busy crushing material. These two attributes of the QI240 — the efficiency of the machine’s crushing process and its portability — have ushered in additional business at DT. This is because they are able to process more aggregate to sell by stockpiling it for future sales. Second, when work is slow at a demolition site, they move the QI240 elsewhere for custom crushing. “I’m glad we started doing business with Crushing Tigers and Sandvik,” McAfee says. “We are better than we were before. Developing this relationship, coupled with the sharing of expert advice has certainly improved our business.” Such trusting relationships are precisely what Costello and Doab want to forge with their customers, according to Doab, “The key is working together as a partnership. The relationship is important for sustainability, and the trust creates opportunities for everyone.” Respecting business decision-makers and supporting crushing operations is what the people of Sandvik Construction Mobile Crushers and Screens in North America do. We want to pass that test every time,” he says. Costello adds that selling and servicing good machinery is gratifying, but becoming trusted partners with customers tops all. “I respect what machines can do,” he says. “But it is working with people that makes my day.” For further information please contact Virginia Varela-Eyre, marketing manager Construction Americas, call 404-589-2823, mobile 404-263 8788 or e-mail Virginia.varela-eyre@sandvik.com .

CASE introduces powerful 1221F wheel loader for achieving optimum productivity in demanding aggregate and mining applications CASE Construction Equipment introduces the new CASE 1221F wheel loader, the newest and largest model in the company’s F Series wheel loader line. Designed with an 11.9 liter Tier 4 Interim certified engine that delivers up to 355 horsepower, the CASE 1221F is built for heavy earthmoving and loading applications such as those encountered in aggregate and mining operations. Enhancements to the engine and transmission at maximum travel speed allow for increases in productivity of at least 18 percent and fuel efficiency of at least eight percent. The CASE 1221F is powered by a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) engine with Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). This provides clean burning power and increased torque compared to previous models. Improved side panel air flow and cleaner direct air flow combine to ensure extended service intervals and component life. A new power shift transmission with transmission mode settings allows the operator to set the transmission to the
specific application for optimal productivity and performance. The 1221F wheel loader has an operating weight of 66,800 pounds and comes with a range of buckets from 6.3 to 7.8cubic-yards. With a 6.8cubic-yard bucket, the breakout force with tilt cylinder is 55,730 pounds. The machine is available in standard Zbar and extended reach (XR) configurations. Additional highlights include: • Four programmable power modes to save fuel and increase available power. A dual mode shutdown feature helps maximize fuel economy and monitor vital engine components; • Standard four speed transmission with manual kickdown for maximum traction, as well as superior bucket penetration. Also available is a five speed transmission with a lockup torque converter, open differential axles and advanced system programming for additional fuel savings; • Open rear axel and locking front axel for outstanding traction; • Excellent operator safety and productivity, including a larger cab; a
full glass door; an unobstructed view to both edges of the bucket and a sloping hood that provides clear vision to the rear; a quiet cab with a 73 decibel rating; a dual air filtration system for cleaner air; a fully adjustable, heated and cloth covered air-suspension seat; ergonomically positioned controls with optional joystick steering; and a rearview, wide angle camera with an adjustable color monitor; • A new coupler system that pulls the bucket closer to the machine for enhanced breakout force. It also includes the CASE SmartFit™ bucket tooth system that provides stronger, more durable teeth and adapters and hammerless reusable locking pins to improve digging performance; and • Easily accessible daily service points and drain valves. The fuel fill point, cooling fan and radiator assembly have also been moved to ensure effective cleanouts and eliminate downtime. MetalX selects Dekalb County for new plant AUBURN, IN — MetalX, LLC, a scrap metal recycling company, announced plans today to locate a new facility here, creating up to 80 new jobs by 2017. The Waterloo, IN based company will invest $12.4 million to purchase, renovate and equip a 240,000 square-foot industrial facility at 1101 Oren Drive in Auburn. Located on a 30 acre site with main line rail access, the company expects to commission its first line in April, with plans to have the plant fully operational by September. The facility will allow MetalX to develop a consolidated nonferrous metal recycling and reclamation operation that will be capable of recycling more than 100 million pounds of nonferrous metals per year, half of which will be reclaimed from material streams previously going to landfills. “Indiana’s economy continues to operate with homegrown-Hoosier companies as our foundation,” said Governor Mike Pence. “They are responsible for significant job creation and are key to helping bolster the growth of our state. With our low taxes, best in the nation workforce and central location, the Hoosier State has developed an ideal business climate, allowing companies like MetalX to stay close to home and making Indiana a state that works.” MetalX, which currently employs more than 100 Indiana associates, plans to begin hiring for the Auburn facility next month. Interested applicants may apply by visiting the company’s Waterloo headquarters at 295 South Commerce Drive or emailing the company’s human resources depart-
ment at employment@metalx.net . “We are pleased to confirm that we will locate our newest operation in Indiana, and in particular, in the city of Auburn,” said Danny Rifkin, president and chief executive officer of MetalX. “We recognize the effort that has been required on the part of the mayor and city council, the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership and the IEDC to work together with us on this project, and are proud to continue expanding in our home state. Job creation is the foundation for a sound domestic economy, and we appreciate the assistance to help facilitate new Indiana jobs.” With family roots in scrap metal dating back to 1943, MetalX is a fullservice scrap metal recycling company that processes and distributes all grades of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. MetalX was founded by Danny and Neal Rifkin, third and fourth generation members of the Rifkin family, which had owned and managed OmniSource Corporation until it became part of Steel Dynamics in 2007. MetalX opened its first facility on a 70 acre site in Waterloo and has grown from 12 employees to more than 100 in just more than a year. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered MetalX, LLC up to $725,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $40,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city
of Auburn also approved additional incentives at the request of the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership. “We’re very pleased that MetalX has chosen to locate its new recycling facility here in Auburn,” said Auburn Mayor Norm Yoder. “It occupies a vacant industrial building, bringing the facility to life to create many new jobs for our community.” Indiana led the nation in its percentage of private sector job growth in November, coming in second in the race to add the highest number of total jobs that month. That growth, which includes 25,300 new Hoosier jobs, is the largest one month increase in Indiana on record. MetalX is a scrap metal recycling company that deals in all types of ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals and metalbearing waste streams. The company buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers and the general public, then as a processor, transforms various types of scrap into a form that can be used as a key raw material in the production of secondary products like steel, aluminum and copper wire and tubing, which then serve as the base materials for new metal products and components. Headquartered in Waterloo, Indiana, the company will now operate metal recycling and scrap processing facilities in Waterloo, Fort Wayne and Auburn, Indiana, as well as a joint venture in Birmingham, AL. In addition, MetalX offers customized consulting and management services to industrial scrap generators throughout the U.S. Created in 2005 to re-
place the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12 member board chaired by Governor Mike Pence. Victor Smith serves as the Indiana Secretary of Commerce and Eric Doden is
the president of the IEDC. The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance based. Therefore, companies
must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment.

Equip Sales’ customers are highly satisfied with performance and material quality Equip Sales & Leasing Corp. and its employees have a combined 50 years of experience in the crushing, screening and recycling industry. They have operated and sold various makes of crushers and screeners, but when it came to the decision of which machine the company wanted to represent and add to its rental fleet, the Rockster Duplex System was the ideal fit.
The unique Duplex System was a strong argument Joe Collazo, sales manager of Equip Sales says: "Rockster crushers helped fill the void in the fleet as we didn't have a closed circuit machine capable of producing spec material, and the fact that the machine can be switched from Jaw to Impactor made it an even easier decision for our company. and vice versa on one basic chassis within a few hours. This technology allows flexible recycling, operating with hard stone, asphalt, concrete or any other C&D. The hydrostatic drive system provides the technical base for this highly sophisticated system: It allows a continuous variation of the crusher speed as well as a clockwise or anticlockwise operation of the crusher (or vice versa). Through this drive system Rockster's customers have the advantages of a great operation convenience, and due to the absence of a conventional clutch it is free of wear. Moreover the maintenance is simple and high performance across all applications due to an optimal adaptation to the various requirements is guaranteed. 100 percent defined final grain Moreover the ideal measures of the machine which allow to transport the crusher including the screening box and the return belt with one truck were important for choosing Rockster machines. Equip Sales puts great emphasis on good performance and needs high value, cubic final grain so they chose the optional screening box and the return belt to work with a closed circuit and produce 100 percent definable final grain. Additionally you have the possibility to use it as stockpile conveyor with a discharge height of up to 4 meters. Mr. Collazo is very satisfied with Rockster: "Three years and almost 4000 hours later the machine continues to perform and shock our customers with its production and material quality despite its compact size."

Groundbreaking at new U.S. headquarters supports KOBELCO Construction Machinery USA’s fast paced growth HOUSTON, TEXAS — When KOBELCO Construction Machinery USA relaunched its popular line of crawler excavators as an independent brand earlier this year, the company never imagined how quickly they’d reestablish a footing in North America. The signing of more than 50 dealers in its first six months drove a significant demand for KOBELCO excavators, a demand that KOBELCO worldwide has diligently worked to support throughout 2013, and one that has helped the company regain market share within its first year of independent operation. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the early results of our brand relaunch” states Pete Morita, president and CEO of KOBELCO Construction Machinery USA. “In just a short time period we’ve hired some of the industry’s most qualified personnel, opened our temporary headquarters and parts warehouse and partnered with our dealers to provide quality, competitively priced products. All of these initiatives are just the beginning of what we have planned for the North American marketplace.” KOBELCO Construction Machinery’s fast paced growth has resulted in expedited plans to build a permanent U.S. based headquarters. The company originally anticipated to build within five years, but started making it a priority this summer, scouting and selecting a location before the close of their first business year. In early December, the company will break ground on their new facility in Katy, Texas, having signed a nine year lease agreement with plans to occupy the building by September 2014. This new, expansive 101,300square-foot facility will not only server as KOBELCO’s North American headquarters, but also as the company’s training center and parts distribution location for all of the United States, Canada and Latin America. The investment being made in
this building by KOBELCO signifies the company’s long term commitment to the North American marketplace. According to Ron Hargrave, vice president of sales and marketing for KOBELCO Construction

Introducing the FMA8039 milling attachment Fecon Inc. introduces the new FMA8039 hydraulic powered milling attachment rated at 260550 hp, to process soil, stumps and roots up to 20-inches below grade. A massive weight of approximately 11,000 pounds (depending on options) keeps the attachment engaged as carbide tools cut through an 80-inch wide path of material. The 8039 is ideally suited for treating land already cleared of standing vegetation, often through logging, mulching or traditional land clearing methods.
Applications include pipeline construction, commercial tree farm construction and preparation planting, converting land into tillable acreage, or land clearing for new construction. A 39-inch x 80-inch large diameter rotor has an innovative structural design and abrasion resistant steel for durability and performance across a wide range of soil conditions. Sixty-four carbide cutting tools provide a balance of performance, wear life and impact strength in subsoil applications. Dual hydraulic
motors deliver power to the belt over gear box driveline to slow the rotor speed, reduce abrasion and multiply torque to power through material. The standard trap door can be used to help contain and direct material downward, or an optional compacting roller can smooth out and compact the finely milled material. The FMA8039 milling attachment can be configured with custom mounts, hydraulic motors and belt ratios to fit many brands of track or wheeled carriers including Fecon’s FTX400 and
FTX600 track carriers. Fecon, Inc. was established in 1992 near Cincinnati, Ohio and originally produced horizontal grinders and other wood processing equip-
ment. Fecon now manufactures forestry Track Carriers, forestry mulching attachments and general forestry attachments for vegetation management and wood to
energy biomass industries and a seismic and geothermal drilling line. Their Bull Hog mulcher is the No. 1 selling forestry mulcher.

Previously, all Flex-Mat 3 was produced and shipped from Montreal, Canada. FlexMat 3 Modular will continue to be manufactured in Montreal for the foreseeable future. “Our continued sales growth in Flex-Mat 3, OptimumWire ® Woven Wire, stainless steel and other screen media solutions in Western North America has been significant since we first opened Major Wire Screen Media in 2008 in Puyallup, WA,” commented Jean Leblond, president of Major Wire Industries. “Now we can offer our Authorized Dealers serving our markets in the West and their customers faster delivery times and lower freight costs on Flex-Mat 3, just as we have with woven wire for the past five years.” Major Wire Screen Media’s new Fife facility is just two miles from its former facility and offers 60,000 -square-feet of new manufacturing, shipping and office space. All office, shipping and woven wire production per-
sonnel have been retained and the company has hired and plans to maintain an additional 15 to 20 more local employees dedicated to producing Flex-Mat 3 screen media with the latest Major Wire designed equipment and processes. Major Wire pioneered Flex-Mat SelfCleaning Screen Technology in North America and introduced it to the market in 1996. “Since 2008, Major Wire Screen Media has been supplying OptimumWire Woven Wire screen media to Authorized Dealers across the west coast of the U.S. and Canada,” said Mark Roppo, vice president of Major Wire Screen Media. He added that he started with Major Wire as an authorized dealer selling Flex-Mat 3 screen media for 12 years. “I’m excited to have been part of the West Coast growth, and now that we are producing Flex-Mat 3 here, the shorter lead times and decreased freight costs will make a huge difference for our dealers and their customers.” Major Wire’s Flex-Mat 3 line of screen media is available for both tensioned and modular screen decks and is constructed with distinct lime green polyurethane strips that bond independently vibrating wires to dramatically increase material throughput, lengthen wear life and virtually eliminate blinding, pegging and clogging. Yokohama Tire Corporation signs deal to build commercial tire plant in Mississippi FULLER TON, CA — Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) today signed an agreement to build a commercial truck tire plant in West Point, MS. The facility, which is expected to produce one million tires starting in 2015, will have an initial capital investment of $300 million and poten-
tial plant expansions could reach up to four times the original employment and investment levels. “This is a historic day for Yokohama,” said Hikomitsu Noji, president and representative director of The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., YTC’s parent company in
Japan. “Since our entry into the U.S. market over 40 years ago, along with the subsequent acquisition of our plant in Salem, VA in the 1980s, Yokohama has been on a continual growth. Now we will build a factory in the United States for the first time. It reaffirms our commitment to the North
Gov. Bryant, Mr. Noji and Yokohama's Yasushi Tanaka at the signing ceremony. American market and to the continued mutual success of Yokohama and its business partner — our dealers. I’d like to thank Gov. Phil Bryant and the State of Mississippi for their dedication in bringing this to fruition. I’d like to thank Mississippi as well for a very warm welcome.” Noji, along with Gov. Bryant and officials from the state, participated in today’s signing ceremony at the West Point Ritz near the site of the future company plant, about 149 miles from Jackson, MS, the state capitol. “I am honored Yokohama has selected our state for its newest U.S. tire manufacturing facility,” said Gov. Bryant. “This new plant will have a tremendous impact on the Golden Triangle region and on our state as a whole, and I welcome this highly respected company to Mississippi and look forward to our partnership in the years to come.” “Yokohama’s decision to locate in West Point is a testament to our eager and hard working community,” said Joe Higgins, chief executive officer for the Golden Triangle Development LINK. “We’re thrilled to welcome them to the Golden Triangle and look forward to a long, success-
ful relationship.” “West Point and Mississippi offer the optimal mix of cost and operating conditions advantages that Yokohama is seeking to achieve,” said Darin Buelow, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP and leader of Deloitte’s Real Estate & Location Strategy practice. The plant will be built on over 500 acres of land with construction expected to begin in September and completion two years later. Yokohama expects to hire approximately 500 employees to work at the facility. Yokohama Tire Corporation is the North American manufacturing and marketing arm of Tokyo, Japan based The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., a global manufacturing and sales company of premium tires since 1917. Servicing a network of more than 4,500 points of sale in the U.S., Yokohama Tire Corporation is a leader in technology and innovation. The company’s complete product line includes the all new AVID® AscendT — the first mass market tire using Yokohama’s breakthrough orange oil technology — as well as tires for high performance, light truck, passenger car, commercial truck and bus and off the road mining.

Talbert introduces new 50 ton traveling axle trailer RENSSELAER, IN — Talbert Manufacturing, a leader in the heavy haul and specialty built trailer industry, has introduced its 50 ton 5051 Traveling Axle trailer for customers that need to comply with 43-foot kingpin laws and regulations. Kingpin laws vary state to state but generally apply to any trailer longer than 48-feet and less than 53-feet. These regulations typically dictate the maximum distance from the kingpin to the last axle must measure 43-feet or less. Adding to its series of traveling axle trailers, Talbert pushed the deck length to the limit, designing a 51-foot traveling axle trailer to maximize the lower deck length and still meet the 43-foot kingpin law. Talbert’s TA Series trailers are known for their six degree load angle. This gradual slope is ideal for the towing and recovery industry, as well as rental equipment and small to midsize construction equipment with low ground clearances, such as rollers and pavers. The 5051TA is loaded with more standard fea-
tures than other conventional units in a base model, and it still delivers cost effective versatility in a variety of applications. For example, many other manufacturers commonly use worm gear winches to cut extra expense. The 15,000-pound planetary winch, which comes standard on all trailers in Talbert’s 50 ton TA Series, provides customers with a more efficient winch. The planetary winch uses a direct drive system and offers up to twice the loading speed of the worm gear winch. Operators can run Talbert’s planetary winch through a multi-function wireless remote, which allows one person to load a piece of equipment without leaving the trailer. This is ideal for loading inoperable cars or machinery. For reliable performance in heavy duty industries, Talbert’s 5051TA also comprises a T-1 and 80K steel beam constructed framework and 4-inch I-beam crossmembers on 9-inch centers to accommodate more concentrated loads. Further, the I-beam construction prevents corrosion, unlike boxed crossmenbers
that tend to rust from the inside out. Other standard features include 1-1/2-inch apitong flooring as well as side and center tie downs. Apitong is a tightly woven, highly dense wood that provides a longer wear life because it is less susceptible to chipping or cracking than other deck materials. Side and center tie down slots are installed for greater loading ease and application flexibility. Founded in 1938, Talbert Manufacturing provides the most complete line of heavy haul trailers and specialized transportation equipment for the commercial, industrial, military and government sectors; and in applications that include renewable energy, aerospace, heavy construction, in-plant material handling, manufacturing and processing systems and much more. Sidney Manufacturing announces the Land Shark power rotating saw Sidney Manufacturing announces the Land Shark, the best skid steer loader mounted tree saw available. Rather than duplicate, Sidney innovated. It took over two years, but in the end, the Land Shark was born.
From tiny to 24-inch diameter, the Land Shark will cut it in seconds. Why the Land Shark the best? It cuts better. The thinner blade, cross cutting carbide teeth and RPM/Torque balanced
approach delivers more power and effectiveness to the job of cutting down trees. The efficient hydraulic motor maximizes the systems potential without creating excessive heat — which can be an issue on com-
petitive models. The head rotates more. Whether compensating for uneven surfaces, pruning limbs or cutting trees into firewood, the Land Shark boasts the industry’s most rotation at 180 degrees. Any an-

Wastequip introduces best in class precision series compactor Self-contained unit is the result of extensive benchmark testing and customer research After extensive best in class testing among some of the most popular compactor brands, Wastequip has launched the Precision Series selfcontained compactor. The results of this benchmark research were used to develop the Precision Series compactor, combining the most popular and best
performing features from not only Wastequip compactors, but other popular units as well. Testing of each compactor simulated a year’s worth of normal to heavy use. Feedback from dealers, end users and the waste industry was also solicited to determine the most important features for users. Wastequip Precision Series Compactor Features: • Ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) precision
guided design suspends the ram above the chamber floor for smoother operation and reduced wear on the compactor floor; • The Precision Series is backed by an industry leading five year structural warranty. Competitors’ units typically only feature a three year warranty; • The heavy duty rear door with full door seal has an adjustable sliding hinge that draws the door in evenly containing both odors and liquids;
• Unlike competitor’s units, that have limited or blocked rear panel access, the Wastequip Precision Series has a patent pending 46-inch x 18inch access opening for easy inspection, maintenance and clean out, resulting in a reduction of up to 33 percent less time spent on maintenance. This is just one of fifteen innovative patent pending design features developed as the result of extensive competitive
benchmarking and market research; and • The Precision Series also features our popular Guardian power unit with Automatic Maintenance Scheduling (AMS) to alert operators when scheduled maintenance is due along with a Watch Dog timer to prevent motor burnout. “The research and competitive benchmarking by our engineering and product development teams for this project was world class. We made this investment because we’re committed to bringing the best products to market. We’re confident that customers will agree that the Precision Series is the best self-contained com-
pactor available today.” Marty Bryant, CEO. Wastequip is the leading North American manufacturer of waste and recycling equipment with an international network of 27 manufacturing facilities and the most extensive dealer network in North America. Wastequip’s broad range of waste and recycling equipment and systems are used to collect, process and transport recyclables, solid waste, liquid waste and organics. The company’s brands include Wastequip, Toter, Galbreath, Pioneer, Accurate, Cusco, Mountain Tarp and Parts Place. On the web at www.wastequip.com .

TCI Expo 2013 shows off the latest in equipment and methods at Charlotte’s Expo Center by Jon M. Casey The 2013 Tree Care Industry Expo, held November 14-16 at the Charlotte Expo Center and NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC, attracted hundreds of industry professionals each day during what agreeably is billed as “The world’s largest tree care show and conference.” This year, attendees were able to not only attend dozens of training sessions and workshops as a way to learn more about how to do a better job in their chosen professions, but they were also privileged to attend a reception held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Thursday evening. During this time of networking, sponsored by Vermeer and hosted by TCIA, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to experience the history and goings on of one of America’s favorite sporting activities. For those who arrived early, there were even preconference workshops on Arboriculture, safety and business related topics on November 13. At intervals throughout the day, Tree Demos, facilitated by North American Training Solutions and Arbormaster ®, were conducted in the center of the trade show area. Topics such as “Safe Drop Zones,” “Arial Rescue Victim Retrieval Techniques” and “Rigging/Dismantling Trees and Precision Cutting” drew dozens of spectators during each of four daily presentations. Worker safety and health remained at the forefront of all of the presentations. While many of the exhibiting companies offered new products at this year’s expo, Vermeer, TEREX and Morbark featured several new items of particular interest to our readership. Vermeer highlighted two new stump cutters, the SC292 and the SC30TX, a new, Dual Fuel BC1000XL chipper and the BC700XL Brush Chipper, all now with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engines for easier starting and better cold-weather performance. “Many of our new changes were prompted by our cus-

He noted that Vermeer also introduced their Arbor Quote Smart Phone App a software item “that allows tree care professionals to create and manage quotes for their tree care business, giving them the ability to send quotes from the jobsite directly to the customer’s email. This estimator gathers stores and shares key
data about tree care jobs and customers, past and current — including things like project name or number, customer information, job location using GPS, job detail, cost and supporting imagery.” Meanwhile, TEREX Environmental Equipment was busy showing off its new skid steer loader the tracked, TSL220 outfitted with a forestry mulch attachment. Hundreds of attendees enjoyed the NASCAR Hall of Fame experience during a reception sponsored by Vermeer, following Thursdays activities. Development & Marketing director, this loader is a new heavy duty skid steer model, being offered by the TEREX Environmental Equipment Division as part of its ongoing growth in the tree care industry. She said that there are a number of new items coming from TEREX in 2014 and she is excited about the growth of this segment. At the Morbark exhibit, shoppers were not only introduced to the growing lineup of Boxer compact equipment models, but they also had an opportunity to see a prototype model of the Beever M18R. The new unit has an extended chassis, equipped with mounting fixtures for two Boxer attachments and a front positioned carrying station located atop the forward hitch area of the chipper for transporting a Boxer mini-skid steer.
The TEREX TSL220 outfitted with the forestry mulch attachment is a new heavy duty skid steer loader offered by the TEREX Environmental Equipment Division. This added feature includes ramps that allow for the travel of the Boxer on and off the chipper for easy transport to and from the jobsite. “This is ideal for the one or twoman operator who just has one truck and needs the extra carrying capacity for a tool like the Box-
er,” said John Foote, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Morbark. Next year’s TCI Expo will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT on November 13-15, 2014. For more information, visit the TCIA website at www.expo.tcia.org .
