PROJECT পর্দা Parda

SQUATTER SCREENING: “NOT A CINEPLEX”

The project’s narrative is based on foreign construction workers who found Golden Mile Complex’s neglected carpark as a space to escape to unwind and enjoy movies. With their skills & growing numbers over time, the selfmade modular design progresses in size, structure and comfort.

Based on the films “A Yellow Bird” & “A Land Imagined”, the project aims to trans form the site into an alternative rest area for Singapore’s foreign workers by provid ing intimate spaces for escapism & refuge.

Cardboard catenary arches covered in canvas roll will construct a temporary make shift structure for its users & their activities.

PROJECT C O M -

REDIFINING INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The project redefines the coexistence and interaction between generations along Whampoa River. It aims to transform the site into an interactive destination for Whampoa’s community, breaking the elderly away from their mudane routines & providing youths with an escape from stressful lifestyles.

The design will support existing programmes found in Whampoa Community Club while enriching the site’s transitional experience for pedestrians.

PROJECT

Watershed Protection with Aquatic Animals

“HAPPY & RESILIENT PLAB”

With resource limitations & provision security becoming significant challenges for Singapore’s future, design is required to plan beyond the present & engage with such issues. This project contributes to a proposed future masterplan for Paya Lebar Airbase, achieved through a watershed protection approach with aquatic animals.

The project aims to integrate strong adaptability through a scenario-based frame work to strengthen the relationship between the watershed, biodiversity & people. Strategies will be proposed to provide 100% watershed protection by increasing habitat diversity, supporting 100% seafood consumption & 130% fruit & vegetable consumption to future residents. Establishing a strong relationship between PLAB’s watershed, biodiversity and people will achieve a happy and resilient community.

09

The group project was part of a studio masterplan, which worked alongside strategies proposed by 4 other topics, projected across a 30 year timeline.

10

Proposed strategies include curating wildlife habitats to provide ecosystem services and strengthen the connection between future residents with site biodiversity.

11

With an adaptable framework & 30 year timeline, the design of fleixble habitats focuses on adapting to unpredictable future conditions.

This studio project provided a unique experience which greatly involved teamwork & communication. Planning for an adaptable framework & integrating ideas with others developed my appreciation for town planning & design. The ability to construct an understandable narrative and presenting it with a flow was the biggest challenge that I look forward to improving upon in future & works.

12

My involvement with Singapore’s landscape field started from my polytechnic days, which ranged from attending talks to helping out with events. Organising networking events with members of SILA’S LA Future back in 2016 was among my earliest exposure to such events. Interacting with other students & professionals granted me insightful experiences. Setting up an outdoor space for Archifest 2016 was one of the most memorable hands-on experience I particpated in as well.
