Decisive Moments in the Creative Process
The first piece I created this week was to honor a friend facing a challenging situation At first, I didn’t think I could do it, but then the painting just appeared right before my eyes as I worked
When I first began, I didn’t know that this piece would be about this situation, but as I worked I realized that I was gathering momentum from unveiling the feelings emerging I began with canvas, crumpled paper, chalk pastels, and graphite Then I added additional marking with the digital image, along with additional layers of atmospheres of color.
This is a video showing some stages of developing this painting. You can see the painted collage I made first, then the image after digital additions You can also see the piece in a living space.
I created this next painting last night. I was thinking of how I long to go to the beach, and feel the sand, salt water, and rocks beneath my feet. I would love to go back to the beach where we used to go on Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts Every summer we stayed on the private side of Gay Head, where we loved to comb the beach for rocks and shells.
We felt the magic of the spirits that still linger and inhabit more remote and undiscovered areas of the island.
