SIMON DEGROOT FLAT MONUMENTS 2nd – 23rd November 2019
FLAT MONUMENTS is an exhibition of new paintings by Simon Degroot investigating ideas of permanence and change in the landscape. Architectural and other key details are cut from photographs and re-employed as abstracted forms for painting. Flattened and overlaid, these collaged details are sometimes revealed through translucent veils or concealed underneath opaque paint application. These works present a collection of remembered
places
and
monuments
recreated
as
flat
abstracted forms in a collapse of memories and experiences.
