Jumaadi Revelation
24th November – 22nd December 2018
ARTIST STATEMENT The characters in Revelations are humorous and sad, loving and strong, fragile and alive. They are poetic, gentle, blunt, melancholy, honest and seductive. They are familiar but foreign. A man carrying an airplane, a buffalo head, a house, a durian larger than his own, his own leg, someone else’s wife. All together they form a convoy to find a paradisiacal land. They might find love or a lost one. They might discover an island or a whole continent. They freeze between movements. They are full of honest and lies, tenderness and pain. They are a mix of bad jokes and unfinished poetry. Smooth, rough and sensual, they are every day. They are sincere and guilty. They are innocence being corrupted. These are images of voluntarily displaced beings seeking the unknown. They are visions, visible memory, records of moments, doubt, sadness, parody satire, social commentary. They connect to one another through some kind of manic disorder. They both disguise ad deny each other at the same time. In the absence of words, these works are poetry, songs and prayers when fear, bravery, sadness, uncertainty and love occupy the moment. Â
