MILES HALL

Open Ground

Pain-ng is an extraordinary process that enables new territories to appear, disappear and to be found again. Living on the edge of the Mediterranean sea, these pain-ngs ďŹ nd their inspira-on in a textured mix of landscape, history and human endeavour. Open Ground is as much a reference to the ground speciďŹ c to pain-ng as it is to the physical environment that surrounds me. The ground in pain-ng refers to the surface on which one paints – like the terrain of the Mediterranean, a pain-ng is the result of a sustained engagement of ac-on and determina-on over maGer.
