program

KDB’s Adopt-a-Spot (AAS) program is one of the largest programs in the state, with nearly 50 active groups. Our volunteers are responsible for picking up thousands of pounds of litter each year from Denton’s roadways. A clean city results in a higher quality of life for your family, higher property values for your neighborhood, and increased customers in your business district. Being an adopter also gives you an opportunity to teach your children about community responsibility, receive positive publicity for your business, and gain valuable community service experience.

next steps

After you have decided at what level you want to participate: • Attend the mandatory orientation. Schedule your first cleanup or watcher site visit. • Borrow supplies from KDB (litter tongs, trash bags, recycle bags, safety vests), if needed. • Clean up your spot (separating trash and recyclables when possible) or visit your watcher site. • DISPOSE of your bags at your residence, your business, or at the KDB office. • REPORT your cleanup online at https://keepdentonbeautiful.wufoo. com/forms/adoptaspot-cleanup-reportq7p2p5/. • Send us your photos and stories!

kdb’s responsibilities

KDB will: • Gift new volunteers with a New Adopter Kit (trash and recycling bags, litter tongs, and gloves); • Provide you with supplies on an ongoing basis (if needed); • Install a sign* at your assigned location recognizing your efforts; and • Keep you up-to-date on other upcoming KDB *Adopter is eligible to receive a sign after a consistent pattern of involvement is established. Adopter may opt out of signage.

Be an ADOPTER Any individual, family, business, or group can be an adopter. You will select your spot from the available half-mile or one mile segments and pledge to clean up a minimum of six times annually. This is a two-year commitment.

Be a WATCHER Is actively cleaning up not for you? You can still participate in the AAS program as a watcher! All you have to do is report litter conditions in your assigned area of Denton on a monthly basis.

Be an INVESTOR Whether you want to take part in cleanups or not, you can support the AAS program with a monetary or in-kind donation. This is a great opportunity for individuals or businesses; help pay for signs, trash and recycling bags, litter tongs, etc.

your role

As part of your two-year commitment, we will ask that you: • Attend an orientation to complete administrative paperwork and to learn about the program, policies, and safety measures; • Conduct a minimum of six cleanups annually** (although we encourage you to clean your site on a monthly basis); and • Report each cleanup online so we can record and recognize your efforts! ** If maintenance of the adopted area is not being performed according to the signed agreement, adopters will be given thirty (30) days notice of termination after which time the name of the Adopter on the Adopt-A-Spot sign will be removed and the spot placed for re-adoption.
