Lt. Governor Scott Angelle Addresses September ULEDF Meeting An overflow crowd attended Upper Lafayette’s September meeting. Dave Berryman updated us on the purchase of the Ice Gators by Chuck Anselmo, and Steve Dupuis spoke of the amazing progress made on Teurling High School’s Stadium project. Sen. Mike Michot provided a warm welcome for our guest speaker, Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle, who regaled the crowd with his own unique brand of humor and wisdom. Angelle’s focus on the “Three E’s,” Economy, Energy and Environment, was inspiring. His message: We in Louisiana are poised to excel if we concentrate on taking care of these all-important sectors. Most notably, Angelle first predicted at ULEDF’s meeting that the drilling moratorium would end by mid-October. Jan Swift and Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle Thanks to Lt. Gov..Angelle for an unforgettable ULEDF meeting!

Leadership is not for the faint of heart! Leadership research points to several attributes of successful leaders: a drive for achievement and influence, dynamic interpersonal skills, anticipating the future through visioning, technical knowledge about the business, self-awareness, and a high level of energy. I want to comment on this last one: how do we maintain a high level of energy given the fast pace of today's business and home environments? We work hard all day and spend the evenings at soccer games, fundraisers, church, and more. Most of us suffer from chronic sleep deprivation despite the exhaustion we feel when our heads hit the pillow. Because it's when the lights go out in the still of the night that our problems and worries bubble up to the surface of our consciousness - and keep us up at night. And so it goes until we execute (which all leaders know is the difference between success and failure) our commitment to change our health by taking care of ourselves. In order to maintain the levels of energy needed to be successful, leaders MUST commit to vigorous exercise (lowers stress hormones. blood pressure, and improves sleep quality), a healthy diet that fuels you body rather than depletes your energy, and at least 7-8 hours of sleep. If you're ready to make a change and want to learn more about how to maintain a high level of energy, come out to Upper Lafayette's Quest for Your Best on October 21st where health experts will point the way to more energetic and successful life.
