JAN VALIK

Artist’s statement

My works emerge from a space among ‘absorbed’ landscape, sense and memory. They are fluidly connected to both abstract and figurative elements as I discover these ‘uncertain’ but exact landscapes in the painting process. I am deeply interested in brushwork as inner and outer motion within painting space where these polarities coexist, became subjective experience and awake other associations for viewers. This approach leads me to painting as a principle and a method of thinking in the effort for metamorphosis of trace into a vision.
