PRIVATE SALES IN FRONT The latest REIV data has shed some interesting light on the types of sales most popular across Melbourne and the number of days a property is ‘on the market’. Around 66 per cent of all home sales up to the end of August this year were sold privately. This is a slight drop from last year where 72 percent of sales were conducted privately. However, it is still an impressive figure given that Melbourne is often considered the city of auctions. REIV Chief Executive Officer Enzo Raimondo commented that “Private sales are an important indicator of the strength of the Victorian property market. While Melbourne is known as Australia’s auction capital, the majority of property sales in both the city and across the state are private sales.” The REIV has also released a new map illustrating the average number of days it takes to sell a property across each suburb. Melbourne’s overall average is 42 days. Croydon, Croydon South, Kilsyth South, Ringwood East and Albion top the list for private sales with the sold sticker coming out in under 20 days. This latest data undoubtedly highlights the strength of our current market, particularly as we have not yet even hit the busiest sales period for 2014. Craig J.
