Speaking of a lot: In this issue we also have more of your fan stories than in every other issue before— thank you to everyone who was involved. FANS’ STORIES
All roads lead to Jasmine (by Federica)
‘‘
She hugged me in a warm and friendly embrace (and I felt our bodies joined together in a powerful hug).’’
Rome, Italy where Federica (aka fede_ bonatesta on Twitter) met Jasmine
I asked my dad many times to take me to Rome for meeting Jasmine but he said no, cause he had a lot of people at his dental surgery on that day. On 25th February I went to school as every day and there I was writing a long text for saying to Jasmine that I couldn’t be there
24
jasmag / issue no.6
on that day. But after some minutes the janitor knocked at the door and said that I had permission to leave school, so I imaginated that my dad was going to bring me to Jasmine. I was going downstairs and my legs were quivering... I wasn’t able to stand! So when I
saw my dad, I hugged him and we put ourselves on the way to Rome. We arrived there about 2:30 p.m. and I was really really excited. There I met two Internet friends, Valentina and Federica, we talked a bit and we started searching for Jasmine. At 3:31 p.m. she
wrote a tweet saying that about 4:00 p.m. she would have to meet us at gate 6. We spent a long time searching for that gate and we found it. After some minutes I saw a girl, really high, with a woman and another person. It was Jasmine! And she was with her mother and
a bodyguard (maybe I don’t know exactly). So she went out from the gate and she came to hug us. I waited my turn, I was freezing because was a windy day but I was also excited and warm by the idea of Jasmine next to me. ►

She hugged me in a warm and friendly embrace (and I felt our bodies joined together in a powerful hug). She was wearing a very nice Perfume, I should have ask what one— she was smelling like a candy—she was taller than me and I felt protected by her (like a big sister), her coat was so soft, her voice was really

sweet, her hair was long and her eyes killed me. She was stunning! I asked her for an autograph with a weak voice cause I was too excited to say her anything else. She asked me my name and I was quite able to say it (hahaha...) I was paralysed by her majesty. Then she hugged me and went away cause she had the sound check. That was the best day of
my life, I have to thank my father and Jasmine for making my dream comes true. Can’t wait to meet her again in Milan on July. Thank you a lot Jas, I love you so much... Federica. □

could you sign Daisy’s arm?
Please,
A day I’ll never forget was the night I met Jasmine, so beautiful and so quiet and kind! I was at an Ella Eyre concert and Jasmine was the opening act, I didn’t realise she’d be there. I looked up and shouted (extremely loud) ‘‘OHMIGOD THATS JASMINE THOMPSON MUM ITS JAS OMG JASMINE I LOVE YOU’’ Jasmine didn’t hear
‘‘
...she still remembers me as the girl who’s arm she signed.’’ because the music was so loud but everyone else stared, oops! After her performance I asked to buy her album but they didn’t have it on sale, so I wasn’t sure what she’d sign. I queued up for ages, as a lot of the people there hadn’t met
28

Jasmine before either (and the most annoying thing was most of those people didn’t even know who’s she was). When I finally got to the front, this is how our conversation went: ‘‘Hi Jasmine! I love your YouTube videos so much’’. ‘‘Aw thank you, you’re so sweet’’. She then pulls me in for a hug! ‘‘Please can I take a selfie with you?’’ (At this point I keep accidentally turning my phone off, so embarrassing!) ‘‘Yeah of
course’’. We take one from snapchat that I forgot to save. ‘‘Thank you!’’ My auntie says ‘‘Go in for a group photo then!’’ (My cousin was there too) I then said ‘‘Please could you sign my arm?’’ She said: ‘‘Haha, of course!’’ And ever since then I’ve been in contact on YouTube and she still remembers me as the girl who’s arm she signed.

Not only a great
It was late August 2015. I was using YouTube to find out latest house music hits. A playlist appeard and the first song that played was ‘‘Ain’t Nobody’’. I loved the song especially Jasmine’s voice. I had never heard about her before though. I wanted to know the public opinions so I checked out the comments. I was shocked to find that she was just 14 years at that time. It was really amazing
that someone of just 14 being that great. Then I googled her and found her YouTube account named ‘‘Tantrumjas’’. I checked out her covers of my favorite songs and I loved them all more than the originals. Moreover I listened to her originals and liked them so much, I subscribed to her YouTube channel. It was really great that she was so talented regarding her age. Gradually I started to interact with Jasmine
on Facebook and later on Twitter. I requested Jasmine to follow me back and she did it few days later. Jasmine is so down to earth person who treats fans as her friends. She is not only a great singer but a wonderful and supportive person. Jasmine’s fans are the best in the world. I am proud to be one of them.

‘‘
...because someday, sooner or later, they will become real.’’ I want to share my story with all of the girls and boys out there, who have a dream. Don’t stop believing in your dreams because someday, sooner or later, they will become
real. So let’s begin with my story. In the summer of 2015 I was obsessed with Jasmine. Everything about her made me happy, every lyric in her song and every photo she shared made my day. So one time I made a Twitter account just to follow Jas and to see what she’s tweeting so I tried my luck and asked her a question. ► august 2016 / jasmag

From HUGEL’s ‘‘Where We Belong’’ ft. Jasmine Thompson
One day later I couldn’t believe my eyes. She answered me. She made me so happy I truly could’t sleep for days because of her, and that’s not even a bad thing. I searched for tickets for her concert with Ella Eyre in Hamburg and I went there with my best friends and my dad. We were there 5 or more hours earlier and we could’t find the door so we searched for it and then she showed up. She got out the car close to where we were. I could’t speak, I started shaking and laughing but also crying because I was so happy. Jas hugged me, talked with me and we took pictures. Later then as the show began we were
in the front and she just said ‘‘Hello’’ to us before she started to sing. I also talked with Annie and Will. My dad stayed at the bar and he talked with her mum even though he had no clue who this woman was. Pretty good– well done dad! As the show was over we chilled with Jasmine and then we had to go. The next day she followed me and my friend on instagram and we chatted all day. Then she added me on snapchat and we snapped all day. We became so close! The next time she was in Hamburg we forgot to buy tickets for her show with Robin Schulz, so she got us tickets and we were VIPs. On the same day we
met our new friends— Henrike, Anura and Julchen, we still stay in contact. And now almost 1 year later, I still have a good contact with Jasmine, we chat often on WhatsApp and keep in touch. So please everyone, who has a dream—Don’t stop chasing your dreams because one day they’ll become real and your life will get better. Believe me. □

FEATURED ARTIST
Sapphire, a true gem! Our first featured artist in this issue is just 13 years old but already on YouTube since 2010, with over 300 videos and more than 45 million views. I’m really proud that we have Sapphire in our fan magazine. She started her YouTube channel with a cover of ‘‘This is Me’’ from Demi Lovato back in 2010 and with every new video not only was her voice getting better and better, but also her videos were getting more professional. Sapphire was already twice a Grand Finalist at the national singing

competition OpenMic-UK and performed live at the Berlin Arena, the legendary New York club Bitter End, the Wembley Arena in London and in front of 15.000 fans at the soldout Lanxess Arena in Cologne (Germany), at the Vides Days 2015. I could now start to list all of Sapphire’s milestones, such as collaborations with Hollie Steel (Britain’s Got Talent finalists from 2009) or recently with Boycode, but let’s ask her what she feels was her most remarkable moment in the last year. ►

37
JasMag: Hi Sapphire—how are you? Sapphire: I’m really good thank you! JasMag: You are now six years on YouTube. What made you to upload your first video? Sapphire: I can’t believe it’s been 6 years! When I was 3 years old, I went to a Saturday morning musical theatre school, but they used to put me at the front of the stage at every performance we did. Big audiences and the loud clapping scared me, so we stopped going when I was about 6. All I did at home was sing and that’s why my Mum suggested YouTube. I was so excited to be uploading a video onto the Internet. My first cover was ‘‘This Is Me’’ by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas from my favourite film at the time, ‘‘Camp Rock’’. It’s all thanks to my Mum and Dad that I started posting YouTube videos, and it’s all thanks to the kind people who watch, subscribe and share my channel that I’m doing everything I do today. I couldn’t thank

everyone enough! JasMag: I know from your Q&A video that you are homeschooled like Jasmine. How does a normal day in the life of Sapphire look? Sapphire: Personally, I think everyday is very different, but I really like it that way as we don’t know what’s going to happen on the day! I feel very lucky to be homeschooled, as it means I get to make videos and meet people I never thought I would have met. JasMag: With ‘‘Bow & Arrow’’ you released your 1st original music in 2016. How does it feel to make songs by yourself and can we hear more of your writing in the future? Sapphire: I love writing songs about my own experiences, so every song has a story. It feels amazing to have my own music released. There will hopefully be more original music in the future— watch this space, hehe! ►

JasMag: According to the last six years, what was the most remarkable moment for you? Sapphire: Every moment has been amazing. I have been so lucky to be able to do so many incredible things! I’d really like to thank everyone who has supported me, as I couldn’t have done it without them. JasMag: What are your plans for the future? Sapphire: I’d really like to release some more original music, upload more
YouTube videos, do more live performances, inspire the next generation to follow their dreams and get a cat (haha, sorry Mum!). I honestly don’t know where this journey will take us! JasMag: Thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. I’m really looking forward to hear more from you. Sapphire: Thank you! It has been great talking to you. □

I’m hoping to do some more theatre work as I love being part of a cast (...) I would love to teach music to children when I’m older.
Kiah Spurle 9 Years old Singer, Songwriter United Kingdom
42
jasmag / issue no.6
Kiah Spurle The way I became aware of Kiah Spurle was really funny: I was working on issue 4 of our fan magazine, I had many tabs open on my computer, while writing some emails, I got an message that I should check out a video on YouTube. I was told she would be perfect for the feat. artist part from the JasMag. I opened the link and put the video on my 2nd screen. I only saw that it was a ‘‘Rolling in the Deep’’ cover but I focused more on my main work. As the refrain started I thought: ‘‘Oh, that is a remarkable voice’’. So I took a second look on the video and was blown away by her performance. Kiah Spurle did that cover at the age of 7 and I still have no clue how she can sing so powerfull in such a young age. But I’m happy that we can ask her that question today. ► august 2016 / jasmag
43
JasMag: Hi Kiah, how are you doing? Kiah Spurle: I’m really good thanks and I’m really glad you chose to feature me in this really cool magazine. JasMag: When did you first notice that you have such a great singing voice? KS: I didn’t realise myself, it was when I was three years old. My mum and dad were watching Andrea Bocelli singing on the TV. They kept watching it over and over because they loved his voice and they were shocked when I started singing along to ‘‘Time To Say Goodbye’’. JasMag: What did your parents think about it? KS: They were really happy and really shocked. They never knew how to help me develop my voice at such a young age so I didn’t start singing lessons until I was 7. I know they’re really proud of me. JasMag: You already performed live in front of thousands of people in Trafalga Square in London—how does it feel to be noticed from such a huge crowd and were you very nervous?
44
jasmag / issue no.6
KS: I didn’t feel as nervous as I thought I would because I had a fantastic cast around me. It makes me feel really good about myself that people notice I have a good voice. JasMag: Making music and videos for YouTube is a labor-intensive and time consuming. How did you managed to reconcile
school and your music? KS: When I am learning songs for YouTube, I practise in the mornings before school for two weeks before recording day. It usually takes me 2-3 days to record and make a video so we usually do it one weekend out of every month. JasMag: You are now 9
Instagram/kiah_spurle_official; Facebook/KiahSpurle; Twitter/KiahSpurle; YouTube/kiahspurle
years old—what are your plans for the coming years? KS: I plan to carry on my YouTube channel and would love to see it grow as I older. I’m hoping to do some more theatre work as I love being part of a cast. I think I will maybe enter a few more competitions this year and see
how that goes. I hope to be a successful singer in the future. I am working towards my Trinity London Rock and Pop vocal and piano grades and I would love to teach music to children when I’m older. JasMag: I wish you all the best for your future and I’m really looking forward
to hearing more from you! Thank you for the interview for our fan magazine. □
